74 people dying for hydrogen sulphide and sulphur is insane.
This is the socialist way of life.
If Indonesia was not so corrupt and capitalists were able to securely invest these products would be produced safely, hydrogen sulphide with a Kipp's apparatus and sulphur with machinery during the production of oil.
Socialism is not only inneficient but also exploitative, socialist production (a sickel for each man) exists at the expense of the knees, back, lungs and skin of workers.
I walked up Kawa Ijen a few months back, and it was hell. I was amazed at how much fitter the workers were, though they were all twice, and even three times my age, and SMOKERS! They were smoking and walking uphill!
I feel ignorant and saddened that I wasn't more aware of plight of these men. But, just as Indonesians do, they all greet you with a smile--despite their hardships.
holy moly, I'd love to carry out one of those baskets of sulphur! Keep in mind sulphur is heavy!!! Just one of those baskets is a lifetime supply for my pyrotechnics! okay, maybe more like a year, but still, I'm gonna go buy some sulphur. =D
i'm there last july..n it's saddening to see the sulphur miners..but i do really respect them..may god bless them with health n strength to go through it..
this is in my hometown..tretes which is sit on the active volcano mountain welirang.this story is true and i saw it by myself..they earn very less compare to their hard working jobs.olso dangerous..losing teeth, poisoned, their age of life is short than normal..
My friend visited the volcano in 2006 and she brought me back a sample of sulphur, she wore a gas mask. She could not even pick up a half basket of sulphur. Most of the sulphur is used to vulcanize rubber.

Which company buys the sulfur from the miners? They should provide them with protection!

Disappointing that these individuals are not wearing gas masks.
