In this scene you see what a hypocrite Hart is. He claims that he doesn't know Kingsfield but he was asked to do a Research Paper for him. Hart could have told him about how he wasn't able to do the paper but Kingsfield was very understanding. Also, in a later scene at the beach he goes on about how he feels that Kingsfield "Knows" him and he doesn't listen to what Susan says to him, "You're just a name on a Seating Chart". Each year someone like "Hart" becomes the star of the Class.
