He is wrong. The term "Second Line" comes from the line of people who follow the mourners at a New Orleans funeral procession. This guy should do a little research before deciding to make up lies about somebody's culture. This is past the point of embarrassing. Its stupid. And what kind of second line drumming is THAT?? Don't insult the tradition by spreading misinformation.
I just wonder what expertvilage thinks about all the hate. Every video sucks, and everyone makes it very clear. who runs this channel? Is it like a serious thing? i wonder if these guys get paid. like really wtf?
this guy diddnt fail as bad as some others... but with the amazing talent that many drummers online have-What are they thinking!!!??
First of all, there is still second line music happening in New Orleans, lots of it. Second; the term second line comes from the name for people who would follow the mourners and the band, the first line, back from a burial after a funeral. The band plays dirges on the way to the cemetary, and the upbeat swinging stuff on the way back. Secondliners are the people who would come out of their houses and join the parade for the trip back.
I am stunned. I never knew so many early New Orleans drummer played by talking all the time. I will never look at New Orleans drumming the same way again.
the only reason expert village has a bunch of shit videos is because their videographers get paid 200-300 a series, so they probably just get random drummers to teach shit they can barley play or teach
In 2nd line music, the there emphasis on the FOURTH beat. I believe it was once call the big 4. & Also some great drummers to check out: HERLIN RILEY, RUSSELL BATISTE & TERENCE HIGGINS if your looking for New Orleans 2nd line flavor on drum set, it is different from a brass band setting "Bass & cymbal.. & snare." Anyone who reads this should subscribe to my channel! =)
In all seriousness, you gotta have some major cojones to put up a video lesson, when you are so untalented and ignorant about wheat you are attempting to teach.. But honestly, next time just take the video and dont put it up anywhere, i mean you waste our time, when we are trying to search for an actual lesson and stumble upon this POS..
Oh and next time try playing on some buckets, they might have a better sound than your drum set..
Sorry bro, you are absolutely wrong about the term "Second Line"
This term comes from New Orleans Funeral parades where the brass band walks behind the coffin in the second line. Check out some videos of Stanton Moore.
I guess the second lesson with the important tips mention below (groove & not straight rhythm on bass drum) is in this other youtube vid "2nd Line Drumming: Drum Tip of the Day 11-25-09" CHEERS!
Absolutely raw, good enough 4 a begginer like me, in 1´:46" a 2 drum basic beat to keep on marchin + good short explanation with clear picture+is free, definetely I would not have done better, thanks & congratulations
Lighten up, my ass!!!! when you do this poor of a job, you get criticized...end of discussion. Trust me, you would not let a doctor, that does his job this poorly, operate on you... Why should professional music be taken any less seriously?
Use a clave rhythm on the bass drum (or variations of it) the bass drum shouldn't be a straight rhythm. The march begins very slow and quite mournful on route to the cemetary but afterwards it becomes very up beat and people join on behind the band and the mourning family and dance in order the celebrate the life of the deceased. Those dancing behind are called the "second line".
@Laight4work well.....yea cool for the history lesson, although no one really knows for sure.....that being said it would have been good for him to actually TUNE his drums and work on his technique. But what the hell, it's youtube. Let's see....what's missing, oh yea....the GROOVE.
Your kit sounds exactly like any kit you would find in any music store...totally untuned. Why would you post this with such crappy sounding drums? And dude, your technique ...hmm, how do I say this...its not quite as good as it should be.
Incorrect. FYI Actually, second line is the second line of people marching in a funeral parade. The first line was the family and close friends of the deceased. The second line was the other people that would join in the parade behind the first line and follow the funeral parade through town. As the parade moved through town the second line would usually grow as people and musicians would continue to join in and follow the parade to the end.
The 1st line reefrs to the people the involved in the parade and 2nd line refers to the random people who follows the music. I don't know where he got that from and that beat sucks. If you want a real secondline sound listen to Rebirth Brass Band or a traditional brass band to get the older sound
Man, are you kidding me?! Bruh, if you ain't from da 504, PLEASE don't try 2 run no 2nd Line drum instructional video man..4 real. Cuz this video is just embarassing & ridiculous
You are retarded. Every retard and their evil step brother in the attic knows that second line has clavi on the bass drum, and the accents are not "spicing things up." With out the accents, its not second line
lay off the poor guy! he is obviously simplifying his playing for beginning drummers. he is not saying that he would go to a gig and play that way. this is a tutorial, not a demo. there's no need to get foul and nasty about it!
