Its videos like this that prove the fact that Malmsteen was one of the greats of our time. Some people say He is just a shredder. They are wrong. This is a really tasteful selection of notes. Malmsteen has alot of taste in the early days.He is light years above Steve Via or any of the others in the 80's. Yngwie was so good at this time. Van Halen feared to play on the same stage as him. He called the promoter to have Yngwie taken off the tour because Yngwie does eruption with his teeth. Enough said
@ALBERTromano1965 Yngwie was, talent wise, without peer in his generation of rock guitarists. The problem is his talent comes with a tendency to over-indulge and lose the plot musically. During his time in Alcatrazz this was tempered quite a bit, and he tended to stay within the framework of the song. If he had continued being part of bands where members had equal weight in musical decisions, I think he would have been bigger. His story is one of inflated ego, and talent wasted IMO.
@wlmason73 I agree with you 100%. Yngwie needed a band. You and i think the same. This was his peak. Once Yngwie went solo it was just him over indulging. No doubt thats what hurt his career. You are a smart man, You know your stuff!
@ALBERTromano1965 Whoa! I was expecting to catch some flak for that comment. It's somewhat rare to see level-headed comments about Yngwie. Props to you for that. Most think he's God or a wanker. He's neither.
I'm still an Yngwie fan, but not of his recent work. I think his first 3 solo albums were quite good. IMO it all went downhill after Trilogy. He's still an immense figure among guitarists, but not the household name he could have (and probably should have) become.
@wlmason73 You speak the truth. No flak needed! I think Yngwie never got it back totally after the car accident and he needed a band situation. His ego is big and that hurt him also. But Yngwie was the best in the mid 80s. Van Halen was even afraid of him!
@igouroum Well, Blackmore used it all the time, and Yngwie was really trying to get his own fan base. Now, YJM doesn't really use any of Ritchie's live signature moves, except the occasional "break a guitar" thing and the "monkey paw" like 2:33. The cool part is that not very many people know it is musically USELESS. Obviously, he was happy and just having some fun. Good question!
the thing about Grahm Bonnet is he never plays it safe when he sings..he lets it all hang out & go's for it every time he plays.......no down tuning bullshit......
he's got balls of steel & iron lungs.....great f**kin singer................
@chinaski000 I agree! Graham is often unfortunatly unlucky when it comes to live performances filmed for release. I've seen the man live several times, and he sounds way better than this. Yngwie rocks as always indeed!
There was an interview with Alcatrazz once where they talked about how Yngwie's style hurt Graham's performance. For example, Yngwie was so busy noodling and soloing like a maniac, that Graham couldn't tune his voice off the guitar... he actually had to tune off the bass! Which is just ridiculous. If Yngwie had shut up for half a second, the entire band might have sounded better.
I agree, this was definitely Yngwie's prime, so clean. So much great shit from the mid-80's to early 90's in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, still a big fan nowadays too. Also, Graham Bonnet definitely grows on you. I didn't like him at first either, but I did after a while.
guitar face at 2:11 = win. and Bonnet severely annoys me as well. he doesn't sound bad when hes actually managing to sustain a note, its just that he usually cant sustain it.
that solo is amazing why cant yngwie write solos like this anymore

Graham is a bit off, but his singing style was not easy to replicate live. He sounded totally awesome on the albums (especially in harmony).

Back then Yngwie really thought he was Blackmore... very funny!

why does Bonnet think that standing on his toes during the high notes will do anything?

Graham is pretty shitty as a live singer to honest. Yngwie is top notch though.

Give Graham Bonnet an `A` for effort but why cant he sing in the right key for his vocals, this is just tragic, such a shame ,part of history now tho

I think he's just as clean as he used to be and that only his tone makes for the differance.
