Wonderful! I've had this track on CD for years but only just thought to try to find a video. I hadn't realised R.E.M. were working with Bragg, and I thought the 'baggy trouser's' and 'unbelievable' bits were Mike Mills doing an english accent!
For some CRAZZZZZZZZZAY reason i only discovered this as the B-side on Near Wild Heaven last night despite having it for years and it REALLY made me laugh so thanks for posting a visual to it :)
I got a place behind a young woman at the front of the stage. She kept yelling for Finest Worksong. As a Spoonerism, I yelled out Workest Finesong, and Stipe made fun of that. I think I yelled back, "Spoonerism!" Later on nobody could remember the lyrics to a John Prine Song (Hello in There), so I yelled some of that song up to the stage. I didn't get the tea towel, but I did buy a Bingo Hand Job tee shirt, and it had all their fake names on it.
How crazy to see after all these years. I was there at the Borderline on the 2nd night of Bingo Hand Job. I saw Chris Edwards outside, had met him in Atlanta once, and just yelled hello. Five minutes later, the bouncer guy motions to us and says to us, no kidding: hey you, come this way, you have a phone call. It's your mother...
So weird to see something on tape that I witnessed. Does anyone remember the small hand towels with "Bingo Handjob" printed on them? I remember this show vividly- Chickasaw Mudpuppies from Athens opening and then Billy Bragg and Robyn Hitchcock. They gave Peter Holsapple a song or two and he played "Lonely is as Lonely Does".....very positive vibe in there. I'll never forget Billy Bragg saying "Unbelievable" during Tom's Diner and everyone laughing. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS.
It absolutely blows my mind that there's video footage of this performance. I've had the CD with it on it since I was a kid, and when I first started watching this, I thought "hey, interesting, R.E.M. performed this more than once!" But no, THIS is that one performance!
OMG!! i was at this gig and had no idea there was any video footage taken. i can't believe that it was 19 years ago. i was standing almost in front of mike mills and i was such a special night. I'm sure that mick jagger was at the bar or did i just imagine that bit? thanks for the upload!!!
This is quite possibly the greatest video on YouTube.

How does stuff like this turn up nearly 20 years later? Like others, i bought the bootleg in '91, so to see the video is really strange. What a gig.

I was there too. The security guy collecting the tickets dropped one of them and I picked it up. It is the only reason I got in.
