  • super performance

  • I miss him :(

  • NHØP is as x-tra here! Incredible, best bassplayer ever lived.

  • classic example of mike playin' the blues.....

  • "Jazz at The Gateway" - one Monday night on Channel 4, a UK tv station. They also played 'Coral' by Keith Jarrett and 'Oleo'. The show also featured the Kenny Wheeler group.

  • @gwalkron I have those two performances posted as well. The Oleo one in particular is just over the top!

  • @mobiusII I've just discovered the 'Coral' one! Thanks. Oleo is just insane. Thanks for returning me to my youth!!

  • Listen to the walking starts at 0:47...it's like disco blues...but it's awesome,I like it :D

  • What 're you talkin' about?.....listen to the walking starts at 0:47,like disco blues...the saxophone is awsome, the bass is awsome too ...I'm just kidding whit that disco thing...:D

  • Disco Blues...

  • @szaxotrainer23

your comment is like screaming 'you're fat!' from a driving car to a hot and slim women...

    :P

  • Where is this footage from?

  • Great video, thanks for posting.

  • Hey EWI , thank you very much! I need this album for some work and you help me! Thanks again

  • Is Anybody know on which album can we find this song?

    Thanks

  • Take a walk is composed by Michael Brecker. Steps Ahead recorded it live on the album Paradox (1981)

  • Steps Ahead was named only "Steps" at that time btw. head was added 2 years later because a group named Steps already existed in the USA, so they had to change their name.

  • Anybody know who the guitarist is. Very

well crafted solo, smooth and easy.

  • jack wilkins i think

  • Phillipe Catherine, from Belgium.

  • Michael Brecker: Tenor

    Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen: Bass

    Jon Christensen: Drums

    Gordon Beck: Piano

    Philip Catherine: Guitar

    Best regards, Louis Gerrits

  • I don't know about his mouthpiece. My band director has a Guardala, and that's not one. I have a Dukoff, and it would appear that is what his is. About the same as Sanborn, yes.

  • Who is the drummer?

    Alex Riel? Jon Christensen?

  • It's not fair he passed away so soon :(

  • is there anyone who can tell me what mouthpiece he is playing exactly in this clip? thanks for help

  • a dave guardala tenor. but i dont know the opening and stuff... sry

  • it's a dukoff D9. the guardalas didn't appear until after this time

  • i think it's a dukoff D7star.

  • At this time he was using the same setup as David Sanborn if I am not mistaken

  • muito bom .....

  • Brecker awesome as usual

  • Mike is tremendous as always...but I was also delighted to hear Gordon Beck (piano) and Phillip Catherine (guitar). They are two of my favorite European jazz cats!

  • sigh... thanks so much for posting this.

  • oh michael brecker rullezz as always RIP but the guitarsolo from phillipe catherine (belgium) is so awesome

  • Michael Brecker I LOVE YOU

    *_*

  • this is michael at his very best

  • brilliant

  • Is it Michael Brecker who wrote this song ? I'm pretty sure it is him

  • Yes he wrote this song. Played it with Steps. (Later Steps Ahead)

    Best, Louis Gerrits

  • Beside Mike the other players are: Gordon Beck (piano) Jon Christensen (drums) N.H. Pedersen (bass) and Philip Catherine (guitar)

  • He does not look like Joey Calderazzo.

    Who is on piano?

Please tell me!! I want to know who this is!!

  • Gordon Beck - an absolute blinding genius, and one of England's greatest ever musicians.

  • Brecker is still my favorite tenor player...although I l like Mintzer, Berg, Bergonzi, and Chris Potter a great deal. As for Gordon Beck, the only bad thing I have to say about his playing is that it's too hard to come by here in "the colonies"! Every time he gets together with Allan Holdsworth, it's magic. I just wish it happened more often.

  • No that's mike stern, that's a belgium guitarist called Philip Catherine.

We will miss you master Brecker...

  • Is that a young Mike Stern on guitar?

  • The music will never die.

  • Who are the sidemen?

  • MY saxaphone teacher Got to play with Him Before he got sick

So Im learning from brecker and my teacher

  • saxophone, not saxaphone, you dumbshit. Negativity aside, may he rest in peace. What a great.

  • damn. chill out. its one letter.

  • What an inspiration he was for so many musicians, myself included. What a loss. Rest in peace my freind, you will live on within so many of us.

  • When Mike wrote this song in out in his head on a cab ride on his way to my house. He wrote it out for me. I've hear it on Steps Ahead and a few other times but at the time he hadn't named it yet. I'll always call it 'Blues For Michael'. What a sweet inspiration he was.

  • Caught a reunited and dynamic Brecker Brothers at the Montreral Jazz Festival a number of years ago. Glad I did. Thank-you Michael. With love, Tom

  • Michael Brecker died today, jan 13 2007 :(

  • Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen!!

He was really a great musician

  • Brecker is phenomenal. What year is this? Early eighties? Thanks for the great clip. pedro

  • hey he plays like me lol

    =D

  • Great older footage of Brecker w/great Euro musicians. It's not a NYC feel but the cats can still play the blues. I like the relaxed tempo. Gordon Beck can play and so does Philip Catherine.

  • this is some of brecker at his best.

  • Who is playing piano on this? In fact, who are the rest of the rhythmn section?

  • Michael Brecker: Tenor

    Niels-Henning Ørsted Pedersen: Bass

    Jon Christensen: Drums

    Gordon Beck: Piano

    Philip Catherine: Guitar

  • One of the things i love about jazz is how all the musicians preforming in the piece gets some recognition. Doesn't happen in many genres of music

  • I love this clip. It features a more restrained Brecker which is great to see (and hear). Although his playing is phenomenal and he has clearly taken it up a few notches of late its nice to see some of him playing before the days where everything has to be in double time.

  • Actually man, I think Brecker is one of the most tasteful "anytime any feel" player you can ask for. Brecker pretty much stays in style. Any most players play in double time here and there. Keep in mind his influences were coltrane which meant alot of runs and alot of substitutions and modal playing. Dudes still plays in more styles then most jazz sax players today at a high level.

  • michael brecker is probobly the best living musician on the planet. i hope he gets better from his ailment.
