@hellboy0o 4.x update did make the iPhone slow. It is possible to revert back to 3.x but many of the apps on the appstore is updated to 4.1

People with iDevices running 4.1 with shitty battery life...READ THIS.

iOS4 has added 2 extra "features" which did not exist previously.

Settings > Notifications > Game Center (turn everything there off).

Settings > Facetime > OFF

You're battery is now 80% as good as iOS3 devices.

The epic problem is that Facetime is still running in the background, leaving you with 40mb less free RAM.

Proof:

iPod touch 3g with iOS3 = 150+ free ram

iPod touch 4g with iOS4 = 120 free ram

If you think this is slow try jailbreaking your 3G and on multitasking my phone actually started to heat it it heated like never before my phone crashed not the apps the whole os

Hi folks. I solved part of the "mule" problem. I tried a tip found on the Apple forum. Make a double Hard Reset (start+home button), one after the other... And it worked for me ! Everything came back to normal. My iPhone 3G is fast now with OS4. For how long, I can't say, but try this, you may have surprise !

yeah man your right i found myself charging alot more in ios4 it absalutly sucks. 3G users downgrade back to 3.1.3 the speed is waayyyy better and there is no noticeable lag. it runs so much smoother. ok your missing out on some of the ios4 features but cmon most of them are not even the lag lol thats my advice. it will keep the stress away for me till i get an iphone 4 :)

I have the iPhone 3G running on iOS 4 as well. Although, it is making the phone run slower (the keyboard lags, music auttomatically turns off, and multiple freezes), it isn't as slow as yours. I don't even know why Apple would even release 4.0 for the iPhone 3G, considering how slow the 3G already is, and on top of that, 3G users don't even get HALF of the features that the actual iPhone 4G gets. My iPhone 3G 4.0 is so slow that I sometimes slam it in the ground.

i have similar problem with my 3GS...

specially with audio and safari.

1. as you described email thing and 2 it just crashes for no reason

some times i tap on a song{crash} restart app {ipod app{ tap on a song} crash}}} and it happens few times

2. same with safari crashes bit less i guess.

3. it does restarts time to time. but no apple logo.

4. lock screen freeze/lock = when you slide it it freezes just before middle and then it unlocks after 1-2 sec delay.

and thats all on 3GS clean restored

@hjparma Well, I resotred the iPhone, and I experience less slow down and crashes. It still slows and crashes once in a while, but the frequency is much less.

Thanks For The Tipp...Now I Really Wont Upgrade. All The 3g Owners Seem To Have The Same Problem And Yet Apple Doesnt Want To Do Anything About The Situation. you lucky man, i updated my 3g to 4.0 and it SUCK,,, my iphone frezzes every second and it wont move untill i reboot it, 80% of my ass wont even open, every thing is like 10 times slower. everything sucks now, there is many many more problems

-Back up iPhone

-Restroe iPhone using iTunes

-Restore from the backup you made earlier

@HoustonRocket281 there is a way to rollback the OS, but it's a little technical. I also just finished restoring the phone. I plan to put the backup of my current data on the iOS 4 software. I head this could help some people.

The one thing that bugs me the most is weather or not apple will release an update for us 3G users. They have discontinued the 3G, so it seems unlikely that we will get an update that fixes the slowdowns and bugs anytime soon.
