To this day, even after I stopped attending church, I still get moments when I ask myself, "Am I going to hell because I just fantasized about having sex with that guy I found attractive walking past me?". I grew up in an evangelical Christian household and let me tell you that all of this is no joke, this is what these churches really do. I remember growing up thinking that this was all normal and that I couldn't really associate with anyone who wasn't a Christian. I remember thinking that everyone who didn't follow the Christian faith was doomed to hell for all of eternity. Growing up as a child I can still remember the genuine fear of the devil and even of God himself. This really hit home.

I left because even after all of the brainwashing, I secretly felt like that blonde kid admitting to himself he was a phony for not full heartedly believing, and that I was just staying for the fear of an eternity of hell. I am glad to say that I am years past that but still this seeing these kids unsettled me.

I feel your pain. I felt the same way as well and still have episodes in which I'm questioning myself if I'm worthy to go to heaven. It's very hard to put that kind of mentality to the side when it was literally a part of you for so long, just keep on reminding yourself that you are worthy as you are regardless of what other people may thing.
