Fantastic to see that Bored to death has brought so many people to this wonderful song!!! I urge all of you to dig deep in to the Magnetic Fields back cataglogue for plenty more awesomeness!
Episode 23 of Bored to Death (Forget the Herring) closed out with this wonderful little nugget. Just love Magnetic Fields but was charmed to hear it after all these years. I do hear it from time to time on Sirius XMU when they're not pumping out the payola albeit unsigned indie.
@JimmyEatsTheWorld -- I now see yours. Missed it when posting mine above. I nearly couldn't believe my ears last time when the Bored to Death (Forget the Herring) credits were rolling. One of my favorite all time Magnetic Fields songs.
It seems Im not the only one who's mind is filled with that special person that totally deprives you of sleep even when you don't feel strong enough to do anything other than sleep. Love is cruel...
Isn't this the same beautiful androgen from their "With Whome to Dance" video? She/he is sooo pretty! I love that I can't even begin to guess at gender between these two vids. How GQ! ;D
That'd be Holiday. For which I paid 22bucks. A wonderful album in its own right. Though to me, Magnetic Fields is still perpetually tied mentally to both The Adventures of Pete & Pete and The Gothic Archies. Late eighties kid, obviously.
@ACCurry86 -thats so funny. i always hated their theme song...its complete crap.funny that theyde pick this song, from listening to the theme music of that song u wouldnt think ne1 on that show new ne thing about good music
I was looking for Jean Michel Jarre and his Magnetic Fields, and then i came over this. I found myself liking it... :) Then i had a blast at Spotify with more from them. Some is highly psychedelic in my ears, But then there is so many other cool songs.
this is one of those songs that seem to transcend across musical tastes. stephen merritt's a master songwriter -- saw them twice... he has such presence. he writes for all genders. powerful punches from such a litttle package!
I find it downright sad that most modern musical geniuses are simply ripping off the past. I mean to call this stuff ahead of its time is a stretch. You folks really need to brush up on your Rock n' Roll 101.
I swear the guy in the video could almost be my clone--I was 5 when this came out, but at 23 now, he and I are twins or something. It's like seeing a doppelganger. Anyhoo, a brilliant song from one of my favorite bands of all time. Holiday is such a freaking amazing album.
I agree! They are incredibly avantgarde. Heard this song for the first time yesterday and it helped me feel better after I put my cat down. She was really bubbly and odd like the song :)
Hmm..I was there in 1992, listening to this, and it was very cute and great, but it wasn't what sounded avant-garde in 1992. I think something like Acen - Trip To The Moon (check youtube), early drum and bass, that sounded VERY avant garde in 1992. Ah well, just saying..
Thanks to the movie, "Tarnation" I discovered this song. More infectious and catchy than any song I can think of in recent memory. I could listen to it over and over...I have never seen the video until now. Thanks!
a great song and video like this makes one feel nostalgic about a time and place in which they never lived. i instantly fell in love with this song the moment i heard it.
holy crap! someone put this video up a year ago, only to take it down a few months later. Ive been searching hi and low for this since then and here it is!! Thanks!! :D
