  • 7:40 he was obviously talking about vai and yngwie

  • he's a master he knows his guitar inside and out

  • You wanna know my nickname for Steve Vai? "god"

You wanna know my nickname for Joe Satriani? "The god that taught god how to play guitar"

No-one can ever or will ever be better than Joe Satriani

  • G n R.. used to wear Metallica T shirt & used to watch concert. But Joe being father of all, he is down to earth.

  • why is he wearing Guns n roses shirt? Guns n roses should wear his shirt

  • no dislike in this video FUCK YEAH!!! joe satriani rock and this lesson is great

  • 2:32 he just DJ scratched real quick lol sneaky move

  • guy with teeth.....steve vai.....!!

  • Having had this teacher, how come Hammet sounds so bad?

  • @juanman1 Because it doesn't depend on the teacher, but on the student! LOL

  • @juanman1 well, its simply because hetfield's riffs are overly complicated to play a melodic solo, i dont know what ur on about but all of his solo's are memorable. I have tried soloing on hetfield's riffs and TRUST ME, u cannot make a better solo than Kirk, because as joe just said, "the more notes there is in a chord progression, the more limited the opportunity to make a melodic solo" and well lets say Hetfield's riffs are complicated. METALLICA RULES!! \m/

  • Same background as that "harp" sound video with Petrucci.

  • Anything he plays got stucked in my head easily!

  • Very helpful

  • i love how he says 'you know what i mean'. its like god going 'i just wanted to accomodate 14 dimensions into a 4 dimensional linear world view, you know what i mean' uh huh, sure, whatever you say you beast of awesomeness.

  • my god breath taking

  • Satch is awesome!!! ....lol...has a Stoner laugh!! lol

  • SATCH, VAI, VAN HALEN, MALMSTEEN, GARY MOORE, STEVE MORSE, PETRUCCI, GILBERT, LANE, GARSED, HOWE, BETTENCOURT, KOTZEN, GOVAN ARE ALL MUTANT OFFSPRING OF HENDRIX!

  • @2patero Frank Marino too? :-)

  • Quite easy to see why Hammett and Vai came out of the Satch factory.

  • Plays with his teeth! Steve Vai!

  • @Pierceher dude that's Malmsteen

  • @TheWilderMusic

Actually that's hendrix who started it I think.

  • "is there any tab for this!?" - if you need tab you're not ready for this. lose tabs and focus on intervals and modes. tab makes you play by ear, it's just someone else's ear. same as not doing your homework imo.

  • true master...

  • I been playing his tunes since "surfin" and learning most by ear since Cystal Planet, wish we were neighbors! but we are both workin' all the time! will always love plating his tunes!!!

  • best guitar lesson ever!! thanks professor!

  • he never uses hirojoshi or indian ;(

  • G3 jam! riff is sort of open, plays with teeth and power drill! hahaha! Joe Satriani says "the fewer the notes and the chords the more freedom you have melodically" takes time to learn improvisation...

  • I love that chord progression, especially the first chord... what is that chord at 1:59? :D

  • @shawking its one of his songs, always with me always with you, album surfing with the alien :)

  • is there any tab for this!?

  • Man this guy is awesome! I am going to learn all the modes in every key all over the fret board as fast as i can!

  • He is the best guitarist/teacher in the world!!!!

  • I love this and I love Satch! Very nice explanation on his part! Very enlightening to understanding modes and learning how to practice them.

  • @CDP110

The average teacher just talks. Good teacher explains. Excellent teacher shows. But the best teacher inspires.

  • "Other guy brings out a power drill" :D

    Paul Gilbert !!

  • @Joshmv14 LOL

  • @Joshmv14 LOL

Roadie goes into his tool box and says " Hey!! wheres my power drill....(thinks)...* PAULL!!!!!!

  • @markway16

    yea man :D

Insane the things he does ;)

  • The end of the world will come and go and yet I'll sit here trying to play like him :|

  • Satch is so goddamn fluent! great lesson for your mind...jeez

  • awesome lesson, lucky guys who take classes with him, a total master

  • this is y every1 like his playing....

  • now I know why all his records moved me rather than Yngwie's

  • i'm new to modal playing..

can u use any minor mode on any minor chord progression? or there should be an appropriate progression for a specific mode? help pls.. sorry for my english..

  • @m00seeka generally speaking yes, but it depends what progression

  • @m00seeka basically the ending resolution chord of the progression should be what mode you use, by that i mean like if it ends on the 3rd chord of the scale, then it is phrygian.

  • @m00seeka By deffinition there aren't "minor modes". The Natural Major scale is Ionian and the Natural Minor is Aeolian (6th mode of major). But yes the mode you use must be related to the chord progression. Eg over a I, V, VI progression you could solo over it with Ionian leading into Mixolydian followed by Aeolian. Interrestingly this is also a nice transition from major to minor, and you have also changed key.

  • @m00seeka But also theres nothing stopping you from playing a single mode over a chord progression without changing mode. Just make sure the mode you play is that of one of the chords. E.g. while the rhythm progresses from I to IV ot V, you could just play Ionian over the whole sequence (natural major); but you could equally play Lydian or Mixolydian over it.

  • Awesome lesson

  • damn. now I want to get into the phrygian dominant type scales

  • shit!he's so awesome!

  • i have a question for anyone to answer please.

i understand modes and how they work and whatnot, but i don't get what it means when a mode is called (scale) "dominant."

    what does the dominant mean?

  • @guitarnukka724 It means that the seventh interval of the scale is flatted or lowered. The Mixolydian mode is "dominant" because it resembles the Ionian mode with the exception of the seventh note, which is flatted. For instance, if you were using a C7 (C dominant 7th), then the chord would go: C-E-G-Bb because of the flatted seventh interval. :D Does that help any?

  • @Ricoshr3d yeah that helps. i'll have to mess around with it. i always thought it meant you were turning a regular scale into the arabic sounding scale by changing a note.

  • @guitarnukka724 The 3rd in the scale is major 3rd not minor 3rd

  • major 3rd your mode

  • Comment removed

  • 4:05 that's exactly why I love Satch, he's always musical. That's also why when I go "This lick is awesome" sometimes then others go "No it's not" 'cause it appeals to me musically.

  • Satch is just so amazing and so intelligent!

  • THAT SUCKS THE BRAIN ONLY REMEMBERS 11 NOTES, THAT MEANS PEOPLE MISS OUT ON 2 NOTES IN THEIR LIFE.

  • wicked lesson!!

  • it takes me forever to learn improvisation

  • @lxwzone it's all practice, scales, and modes. :)

  • @lxwzone lots of notes to choose from man, lots of notes ..

  • @lxwzone dont learn it- feel it

  • we want tabs to play theeeeeem ! ehehehhehehe
