As I said, he must have had boots that made him appear taller because the height difference between them two (knowing their heights) are just too small. Johnny look at least 6ft or maybe even a weak 6ft1 in this video! Far from his true height at 5ft9. In one picture, if I could find it, he stand next to other tall guys and his shoes are remarkably high. Speaks for itself...

Many people tend to round up their heights when asked. Not everybody though, but somewhere I read he said "I'm not a big person at all - I'm only 5ft11" which is totally bogus! The fact that there are pictures of him in very high heeled shoes (or boots) makes me wonder.Depp is fantastic in everyway, but I do believe he feel insecurity.

Look at about 0:20 Is Johnny Depp wearing some magical shoes or what? If he's 5'9'' tall as he often is listed at, how come he stand so "close" in height next to David Letterman who is a listed as 6'2'' tall? There should be a much more significant height difference right there. I myself stand at about 5'10'' and I look much shorter next to my 6'2'' buddy (yeah, no height miscalculations). Celebrities seem to use special shoes to boost their height for some strange reason.

There is an interview with Depp on Regis Philbin show from 1994 I think. It's up on youtube. When he gets close up to Regis, who is 5'6'' by the way, and shake hands Johnny is no more then a half or maybe an inch taller. Personally I don't see how Johnny is even 5'9'' when he look closer to 5'7'' or 5'8''

I don't think he's lying. When I film myself for anything, I hate seeing myself. I like what I do when I do it but hate to see the end result. I let other people tell me how they thought it turned out so that's not a lie so much as it may partial truth. He's already admitted on the Actor's Studio he sees glimpses of his work and parts of his films at times, but there are many actors who think his way...they just aren't as big as Johnny at the box office.

Letterman, as funny as he is, is pretty shit as an interviewer here. He asks the most mundane and boring questions, and improvs with random closed ended questions, which of course the only answers will be Yes or No. Instead, he could of gone with the flow, asked if Depp's kids have seen Finding Neverland or his relationship with acclaimed gothic director Tim Burton. He could of talked about how Depp felt about making the movie, but nope. Random nonsense questions, and Depp looks uncomfortable.
