@FanRailer Most sources say that the ES59ACi is rated at 6000HP while the AC6000CW/ES60AC is rated at 6250HP. The AC6000CW is a Cummins ISL more powerful than the ES59ACi
@GordonFreemanD40 haha thats trivial..... the 16 cylinder GEVO engine installed is more than capable of achieving the extra 250 horsepower, but it makes little difference since the total installed rating of the traction motors is most likely around 5500 hp anyway. the big difference between the american version of the locomotive and the chinese version is the weight, and therefore the adhesion and tractive effort, which is significantly less on the chinese version.
GE locomotives for USA and China are the same. Only the external body are differ. I hear China order over 1,000 of them to replace old Russia and aging trains.
GE does not give tours. Security is tight at the plant. You can get good photos when new locomotives are on the test track or at the CSX or NS interchanges.
Almost everyday (M-F) you can find something on either the NS or CSX interchange, some days both! Today there were two locomotive frames on flatcars (for export) at the NS interchange.
The order is for 300 units, the green one in the clip (number 0001) arrived in China in late August. The one in primer will undergo testing in Eire for about a year before it gets shipped out.
I've seen some video that the train units have been tested and used. A blog said another 1,000 sets to be ordered from GE and EMD to replace the old locos, the production held in both US and China.
where did you catch these at? I made my first attempt at railfanning GE test track today, and it was a failure. I cruised around the whole compound, and then sat at wesley avenue for a few minutes. I did see some delivery locos from the franklin street bridge, but i didn't have time to stop by then. What street were you on when you filmed this?
Well done! They're certainly a very interesting design, and I hope you'll be able to post more photos and videos of export designs like these (perhaps the new GEVOs for Kazakhstan?).
The answer is No!The new locomotives is for China. These model is HXN5 in China. After a few locomotives, this type will build in Qi Shuyan locomotives factory. Maybe more than 300.
Am I the only person who thinks that the Chinese locomotives bear a striking resemblance to the Family Lines BQ23-7 Aegis cruisers?
epistte 2 months ago
The Chinese locomotives look like the offspring of a BQ23-7 and a ES44AC.
epistte 1 year ago 3
@epistte they are actually downrated versions of the AC6000CWs
GordonFreemanD40 9 months ago
@GordonFreemanD40 Not really downrated unless you are talking about the tractive effort.... horsepower output is the same.

I think some American railroads should get in on the ES59ACi. That would be so cool!
