Paradoxically, those of your commentators who refer to themselves as 'Catholics' are really Roman Catholics. We, in both the Scottish Episcopal Church and the Church of Ireland are Catholic and we uphold the pre-Reformation beliefs as RCs do. I agree that so called 'Protestant' politics from England played a significant part in developing the former Anglican ascendancy in Eire and in Ulster. Graeme.
@gvahey1 of course you are technically correct but the term "Catholic" is universally used to refer to Roman Catholics It is not just Episcopalians and C of I and C of E that use the term but it is in the Apostles Creed written before the Roman Catholic and Eastern Orthodox church separated much less before the Reformation as "the holy Catholic Church" meaning universal church I'm sure you know all this but some may not PEACE
Ironically if this great church were catholic the high altar, puplit and communion rails would have been taken out in the 60's in the name of Vatican II. At least the Anglicans keep it nice.
What a pity that Anglicans stole this magnificent building from the Catholic Church. Now, the vast majority of Irishmen don't have a Cathedral on their own and the small Anglican community keep two great Cathedrals in Dublin. It seems unfair to me.
Actually, we catholics have plenty of cathedrals all over the country and one in Dublin. Although, the church of Ireland does own most of the pre-reformation churches. They offered to give back one of the Dublin cathedrals about 50 years ago, but the offer was declined. It means that we still use St. Mary's as our pro-cathedral.

Don't look on it as theft. See it rather as ecumenism
