For a split second the stairs @ 0:29 reminded me of the stairs leading to the 'Place du Tertre' in Paris. Don't ask me why, 'cause here there is no noice, no millions of tourists you have to crawl over and best of all : No 'Sacre Coeur' ......I sooooo want to go to Japan!!!
I half-expected you to bump into softypapa in the video, then I see he already commented here. Haha.
Do you know what type of bird that was calling in the background? It sounded like some type of thrush. (Sorry about the entirely random question, but I didn't know if Japan had that type of bird [or something similar], and if you happened to know it would be considerably easier than an hour of google search. lol)
@TheJapanChannelDcom It's interesting to read your words as I just came home from a tough (yet wonderful) hike (climb really) up to a mountain hermit retreat turned Buddhist temple. As I walked the grounds and took in the abandoned priest's home I was thinking of your video. And just as you described I found a trail at the back of the temple which wound up to the summit of a small mountain. You and I seem to be enjoying some synchronicity this Golden Week. Have a great one my friend! ~Kurt :-)
@ryderawr It's not that simple :P. Most of the time people contemplate while working. I've seen a footage about Buddhist temple once, there was this chubby (not fat though) European dude. After the first day in the temple, he nearly dropped dead on the floor. In Asia religion is not a way of being lazy.
I'm Christian and I treat Buddhism as a philosophy. Budda has never said something about non-existence of God. So, in my opinion, you can be also Buddhist and Christian, or a follower of Confucianism.
I went before a buddhist temple and saw a buddhist and my little cuzin say hi and we go and eat for lunch and it was cool! me and my little cuzin prayed and my little cuzin mom take us picture hehe and it was nice.
@8191921 - i know...i hear japanese architects are some of the best in the world...i read recently that 2 japanese architects won the prestigious pritzker architectural prize this year.
So beautiful! I don't know much about Buddhism, one of my housemates at uni was from Sri Lanka and she was a Buddhist. Are the practices of Buddhism in Japan the same as Sri Lanka? Apologies for the ignorance, just really interested
@aoiskies- they are slightly different. Buddhism is divided into sects much like the sunni, shia, protestant, catholic sects...Sri Lankans fall under the Theravada branch of buddhism while zen buddhism(japan) falls under Mahayana. but it doesn't matter..a buddhist is a buddhist and every december and early january, thousands of buddhists from around the world congregate at Bodhgaya, india where buddha gained enlightenment.
@aoiskies- i was born into a buddhist family and even though i identify as a buddhist when people ask me what religion i am...the truth is i'm not a practising buddhist..but yea..i learnt all that in school growing up. not at home.lol.
What is the name of that Bamboo stick that fills with water from a fontain and then drops the water out hiting a stone making a peacefull sound? I would love to do a japanese garden on my house.. just to remember this beatifull land called japan..
i wish youtube wiuld put stuff like this on front page instead of boring people talking to webcams either saying how great their life is or complaining about anything they disagree with
So is it okay to walk into a temple anytime or do you need permission. The reason I ask is cuz when you were filming it looked like no one else was around.
awsome vids as usual, keep it up. buddhist temples are so peaceful. how is praying done in japan? do you guys you incense? the alter set-up is different than i'm used to so just wondering how it works.
Wow. Looks really nice there. I like places like that but I always feel like i shouldn't be there or don't belong there. So it's nice to see it from your vids. Thanks.
Most are both Buddhist and Shinto, even though some of the philosophies might not seem to mix. Like JapanChannel says, they are so intermixed that it doesn't matter!
That river in the beginning was sweet. Would the Japanese find it socially unacceptable or weird if they saw a young adult hopping around on the rocks from one side to another, because thats the first thing I thought about when I saw that.
did you increase the resolution of this video, it is playing back really slow. my upload and download rates are normal but this is taking forever to stream

Gotta love Buddha, the tried and true philosophy of sitting around, getting fat, and trying to force all thoughts from your consciousness.
