  • brilliant video

  • you have some great stuff here

  • awesome, thanks

  • wow now i will make one !

  • who thinks of this shit

  • > 'saturated alcohol atmosphere'

Does that mean this experiment can be constructed right inside a bar?

  • > "saturated alcohol atmosphere"

    :-)

  • thats effing cool

  • 0:58

  • This is excellent

  • what if i injected someone with that needle ,huh ?! i bet then you wouldn't say that alpha waves aren't dangerous ! awesome video btw thanks a lot Kosasihiskandarsjah

  • Is that the 'will it blend' guy?

  • Holy Shit

  • @crlwllns As i recall alfa radiation isn't sub-atomic particles but high energy atom cores, helium i think. and they can't pass through solid matter.

  • alpha radiation is only an internal hazard. if ingested or inhaled it can be more damaging to tissue than gamma or beta, and remains in the body until excreted.

  • That is absolutely horrifying. imagine that radio active source in your body, those little trails are shooting your cells full of cancer. ouch! your cells are sustaining damage to their DNA and then replicating other damaged or confused cells and those proliferate through your body like an infection until your dead.

  • @chemicalsweet13 Alpha particles are pretty harmless, but beta and gamma can be pretty mean!

  • @chemicalsweet13 alpha particles cannot penetrate paper, so i wouldnt be too worried..

  • @AUSTrepznt True, but just the sight of these little trails forming at lightning speed is pretty scary! Then there are the cosmic rays that shoot through us all the time! It's just amazing how much there is to this dimension that we live in that we don't know about. It's kind of amazing that we make it through without being destroyed! Asteroids, Solar Flares, Cosmic rays, Radiation, it's a veritable shooting range on this planet! lol

  • @chemicalsweet13 lol very true point bro

human life amazes us every day :)

  • @chemicalsweet13 When you are walking on the street, you are breathing kg and kg of rubbish chemical compounds from the exhausting pipe of cars, and you say anything. By the way, you are also radiactive, since you have potassium40 and Carbone14, etc. and you will die, or not?

  • @lekunberriko1 Very good point my friend. I guess we just have to live between hazards in this world. For an uneducated person like myself it's hard to know what to be afraid of and what not to. :)

  • I can see alpha and beta particles just with my eyes. But i have to be in a room that is very dark, pluss a dark background. Then i can see a lot of particles going off in all directions. But i have to concentrate very much and be very still. When you see it it brings you awe.

  • @ThermalHD How long does it take after you drop the LSD for this effect to occur?

  • @beeroosterm Yeah this is what most people think cus they lack the ability :) God gave me this, pluss telekinese, telepathy and psychic abillities. I feel lucky.

  • the alpha particles are charged

At This causes the polar ethanol molecules in the vapor to come together and form a small cloud.

As the alpha particle flys through the vapor a cloud trail is formed

there you go just to make it more clear to everybody

  • crazy, we just learned about this in chem

  • thats insane

  • Ethanol is more visible than isopropyl? Or about the same?

  • @Ormaaj I tried to make one of these using isopropyl after an evening Physics lab at UT Austin in the fall of 1970 (I'd had plenty of success before using ethanol). All that I managed to do that time was contaminate my fingers with the Am radioisotope source (checked with a Geiger counter) leading to some vigorous, repeated scrubbings!

  • Powerful!

it's so beautiful to actually see radiation at work!

  • BLACK.

  • Excellent Introduction, Very usefull Thank you

  • I see radiation!

  • Nope, just it's traces.

  • Nooooooooooo! My dreams are shattered! Why oh why!

  • It's not radiation, it's alpha particle that roams freely around inside the petri dish. The cloud forms because the alpha particle is hitting another atom inside the petri dish, causing to form a different element.

  • We used to make our cloud chambers with real ice and a vacuum cleaner. Little wonder that no one ever wanted to burn HHO when there was so much talk about NUCLEAR! The water system has more muscle and is so much safer than plutonium. People should have listened to us back then. Now their kids want to know why we didn't do more to make them listen. But they had THE BOMB!

  • isnt the radioactive source harmful??

what type of particles alpha, beta or gamma?

  • It is emmiting alpha particles, which are easily stopped by a sheet of paper. It is pretty safe.

  • Where do I get ethanol?

  • Internet chemical suppliers OR high proof alcoholic beverages.

  • Thank you, I'm going to try to find some thing local like specialized fuels. I appreciate this, I'm going to see if I can make light sources that are at angles that will reduce glare. I'm kind of thinking of seeing if using polarized filters will do any thing, and I'll also see if my "Night Eyez", infrared illuminated camera will do any thing cool. Thanks alot. Take care.

  • ethanol is alcohol - the one you got in booze :/
