The storm started as early as 3am in the East (3-6am were the most powerful sustained winds for that area) - gusts from the west are what eventually toppled most of the trees across Nassau. Power was off from 5am-9pm in the East, Cable was off in many areas including the main Cable Beach strip until last night and this morning. Also at least 10% of New Providence is still without power. Basically it hit the east hardest before the eye, then it hit the west hardest after the eye.

I've never seen the likes of this here in Vancouver Canada. It would be devestating to all the large tree and forests that in and around grater Vancouver, we are known for our huge Douglas Fur and Maple trees not to mention all the Poplar trees that are seen here and there and the many thousand plus trees that far exceed a hundred feet in height......so you can see why we wouldn't want a brush with Irene, it would compare to a earthquake...all the down trees and power lines(whew).Thx4 postin'

Great vids! I'm from Puerto Rico we got hit by Irene a couple of days ago when it was barely a category 1 hurricane and it was much stronger than we expected. We definitely underestimated this one, luckily nothing too bad happened tho. Expect a couple of days of heavy rain after this, at least that's what happened here!
