BTW, in other 6 volt lantern batteries you will find 4 D cell batteries, and these bad boys actually can be used to power something, and are sold in shops that sell batteries for more expensive than AA or AAA batteries. Guess that's why big specialist batteries are powered by smaller specialist batteries.

I work for a battery company. Taking apart these batteries is HIGHLY dangerous as only 75% of lantern batteries contain F-cells all others contain D C or acid. If you decide to take one of these apart I GREATLY recommend using a tub of baking soda underneath the battery. For those of you that don't know your average AA battery contains 800 mAh (milli amp hour) so if you put 40 AA's in a group you've got one F-cell but what you need to understand is that lantern is a high output battery

that's something I don't understand about batteries... 1.5V come in like 8 different sizes.. 9V are a bit bigger than AA batteries, 12V are smaller than AA batteries and 6V batteries are bigger than 9V ones...
