  • can a laptop that has embedded wimax still able to get wifi?

  • So basically its a large wifi network?

  • Wimax is dead.

  • This week Sprint, the third largest carrier in the U.S., announced that three more cities are covered by its 4G network. The additions to the official coverage list are Boston, MA; Daytona Beach, FL; and Providence, RI. With the additions, Sprint now covers over 40 million people in approximately 40 large U.S. cities.

  • I'm not sure what people get in their areas, but in Texas, U.S.A. we get 12-16mbps from the cable and 6mbps from the new 4G router, which is all in one, that is great, and for $55 a month, that's how much Comcast was charging us just for internet. If your in a strong covered area it is great and I'm anxious to try the iSpot.

  • @ModernDayTech Well I'm in Southern California, on the freeway i usually get 8MB/s on wimax.

  • WiMAX 2 -- the artist formerly known as 802.16m. That standard will boast theoretical speeds of 1Gbps for downloads, though users are rather more likely to see something in the 100Mbps range (still a huge jump over what gets an Evo 4G user excited today). When can we expect all this bandwidth? The standard is due to be finalized in November, then hardware is expected to be ratified through 2011 before getting bolted to towers in 2012 where it will, compatible with O.G. WiMAX devices.

  • How is WiMAX connection at your country? over here it's extremely bad. Where a package of 1.2Mb can only get 0.3-0.4 MB

  • @TheGhx In Canada where I am, Wimax sucks because of 3000+ ms average ping times and 10%+ average packet losses. Bell Canada oversold their service. They've admitted this on record. Much better to use companies like Xplornet (fixed wireless) even though they throttle like no one else.

  • @a1mint yeah that what happen in Malaysia too. I am probably going to move to Canada soon. Which company provide the best internet connection with affordable price. Prefer Fiber Optic.

  • @TheGhx What's internet access in Malaysia like?

You can't just "move to Canada" at will, you need a visa, or landed immigrant paper.

Best internet connection? Depends on where you're moving to.

All the major cites in the urban cores, often off you 25 mb/s

    Slower is up 18 eghtbs

  • @a1mint Well pretty bad connection. I am using DSL 4Mbps Down and 512Kb up yet my download are really slow. Not to mention ping to oversea server are really high such as USA above 300ms and etc. yet i am paying RM150 around USD50 per month.

Well, it's not 100% confirm yet, but my father want me to further my studies at Canada. So i have the chance :)

  • @TheGhx Good luck if you do make it to Canada. You'll really like it, the people are really good here. You'll even find plenty of food to make you feel right at home ;-)

    300 ms isn't that bad.

When you do a speed test to a North American server, what speeds do you get?

  • @a1mint Thanks for the info, i will looking forward to it :)

normally i would get around 1.5Mbps to 2.0 Mbps. even though my subscription is 4Mbps.

  • @TheGhx Once you get to Canada, I recommend choosing DSL over Cable, and then pick TekSavvy (spelled exactly like that). About $32 for almost unlimited and a technical support staff that's actually capable of dealing with issues. Both Bell and Rogers, which are the big players here, absolutely stink beyond believe.

A DSL modem you buy in a (smaller) computer store for around $25 to $50, no more. So don't rent it. Or if you have one, bring it with you, it's standard technology.

  • June 17, 2010, i have clearwire wimax in Las Vegas and it's crap. There's a system that's going to replace it called TD-LTE which is a lot faster. Let's hope they get it soon.

  • quqee wimax broad band internet service in Pakistan connection just in 750 which is refundable security deposit.....device free....no connection and activation fee....this offer is for a limited time..... come hurry and join hand with us....

    contact for connection....

  • If you are interested in service in houston email us info@texaswirelesssolutions. com

or check us on FB Clearwoodlands

  • Clearwire WiMAX service also lands in Houston:

WiMAX is still not in many areas around the country, but Clearwire had announced on March 30 that its 4G WiMAX service was available in the Houston area. The WiMAX service covers 1,900 square miles with 4 million people with in its service area. The Houston regional WiMAX service extends to the north of Houston all the way to Conroe and northeast to Kingwood and west to Katy. Alvin, Richmond, and Clear Lake are covered as well.

  • yes LTE is faster... but there network isnt gonna be an "all IP address" like wimax.. i got up to 12.36 mb/s with wimax so there are so close together.

  • then skynet controls all the cities pc's from one place. cool idea but a bit weird sharing internet with thousands of other people

  • Intel's upcoming laptop chip, which is The "Huron River" platform will replace Calpella (the current crop of mobile chipsets), and continue Intel's fine work with Wimax and WiFi integration, in addition to new Intel Bluetooth connectivity and that crowd-favored Intel Wireless Display. The platform will be powered by the new Sandy Bridge 32nm processor, a followup to Nehalem's Core ix Series of chips. We should be seeing this in Q1 2011.

  • i;m not sure if wimax has a chance to survive because my city has LTE already from verizon all over, so sprint better hurry up its their last chance.

  • This is cool, but illegal.

Becuase WIFI is very bad for your health.

  • @HybridPineapple where did u get that? if it was pontentionally bad for your health it wouldnt be sold worldwide so please dont talk smack if u cant back it up

  • Because of its economics, Wimax will be the next 4G standard to be deployed worldwide. It is far by far less capital intensive and with modifications has potential to hit speeds of 1Gbs. Majority of the Telco's in the developed world that have 3G infrastructure prefer LTE but for the majority of the world that does not have 3G, Wimax is the only option that is economically feasible. For this reason Intel and Google have enough prescience to invest in Wimax.

  • LTE is going to be even faster then WiMAX

There going to have LTE in 2010

  • LTE is in its infancy and will only match Wimax at best. LTE is at least 2 years away, 2012. Plus, LTE is a network swap out. Very capital intensive...

  • when the wimax will be released in india??

  • seria mejor buscar a SMARTFI en google y veran la nueva tecnologia de cerca.

    saludos.

  • Is WiMax as fast as ADSL or a T1 connection to the Internet in the city?

Right now I live out in the country and there's one company soon that will giving people access to the net using WiMax to connect homes through wireless service using this technology?

Also how fast would connection be?

  • The capacity of WiMax base stations is limited just under 80 Mb/s at this time, but future generations are expected to quickly move into the triple digits.

  • this sounds great!! i hope wimax kicks off and becomes a standard.

  • I am using it!! 1.2mbps package

  • @pradeep21in you cant be serious, wimax is a poor alternative for broadband connectivity...its slow most times, prone to packet loss high pings and excessive jitter. and i only live 3kms away from my tower. not to mention far too over priced for a network that has no where near the over head of other broadband solutions! Avoid wimax at all costs. my one year exp on wimax was a disappointing one, however with a cable solution or even dsl, I was quite satisfied.

  • finally over the air broadband, this is the way it should be!
