the person below me here is quite righthe heard them singing and changed his mind and sang with themthey raised alot of money for charity and arther davites the quire master used to get thier music from the states for them to sing does any one remember when they sung with the irish gaurds what asight that was thim in blue and thr gaurds in redmythras90x
I was about five years old when I first heard this choir in the early 50s. I am so glad I can still listen to them. Tauber was contemptuous of them until he attended one of their practice sessions. It is said he was in tears hearing their perfomance of "You are my Heart's Delight" (in English). Subsequently he was their most ardent supporter.
Though they had been famous locally for some time, the Luton Girls Choir got their first big break on the Richard Tauber Christmas programme for 1945.
They recorded a lot of his repertoire, including 'My Heart and I' and 'You are my Heart's Delight' which they sang at his Memorial Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in February 1948, and recorded for Parlophone the same day.
This rendition must have been made many years ago in Luton according to the fair appearance of the choir; that along with the beauty of the voices and song. They no doubt have long since been replaced by flashing, and strobe lights along with screeching and a jungle beat.

"My Tormented Heart" by Sarah Vaughan is another version of this beautiful song. The group's performance is heavenly!

This is lovely music. What a great shame the choir is not still active. They were the most beautiful singers.
