In going back and watching this series, I was deeply affected in a different way. It portrays the true criminals of society as being those who are corrupt and in power and abuse that power, and to cover their tracks, they fall back on those who are widely renowned as criminals (in this series, Silver is one of those). At least criminals like Silver admitted and owned up to their shortcomings, as opposed to a large portion of the bureaucracy and the aristocracy in this series.
Quite the jaunty tune. I was hooked on this series when it was rerun on The Disney Channel in the mid 1990s. That was when The Disney Channel broadcast quality programming and even produced quality programming as well. It's a shame to see what has become of such an inspirational part of my life. Anyway, this series had me totally hooked, and my boyhood imagination was greatly aided by this series. Great memories of a simpler time.
@liamunderscoret I will! I LOVED this - good production values, quality storyline and credible acting. Brian Blessed was BORN to play Silver!! The fact that I lusted unbelieveably after Christopher Guard is merely a coincidence...! ;-)
I was five when this come on tv when this piece reached 1:31 chills man went up my spine. thanks peggygeordie for working on this project as it brings back lots on good memories.
I worked on this in 1985, it was a HTV Wales production for which I was the props master. Good fun, I earned enough to get married, am still in touch with Brian after all these years. I even inadvertently got covered in his piss when we derigged the Admiral Benbow, Brian was caught short and peed into leather jug which was later thrown through a window with me there to catch it. Happy days!
I was led to this by a recent reading of the excellent "Flint and Silver,' then viewing my old VHS of the 1990 "Treasure Island," and finally remembering happy memories of living in Scotland years ago and watching this series. Brian Blessed was indeed excellent as Long John Silver - and I LOVE this theme. Used to hum it all week between shows.... We must have this on DVD!
ASIWAL!!! you did a great job man. I was also a kid when i saw it 20 years ago. i was looking for it every where but now u did a great job to upload it on youtube. Thank you so much...God Bless you. Brian blessed the Long John Silver acting is marvelous in it. The Whole series is infact amazing but its very sad that this master peice of art was not give that much importance and many people are unware of it. Thanks to you ASIWAL who introdiced it again...Best of Luck
The DVDs seem not to be available anymore or their release date pushed way back. :( As for the encoding, it's Region 2, which means that only European or multiregional players can play them.
I LOVED THIS SERIES. I went to amazon to check it out and they only have 2 videos on vhs. When I went to hmv they have it complete on 3 discs, but I was wondering if any of you knew what the specifications are. I'm in the U.S and I think the dvd formats are different from the european dvds which hmv has. Any help would be appreciated
lol! What I do remember vaguely is something loaded on a ship, the ship being full of gun powder, someone threatening to fire at the ship and someone else shouting "don't do it!". Was that the treasure on board?? :D
Yes, The whole series will be available on a 3 disc set, though the release date has now been put back till May 19th 2008. But hey, we've waited this long!
Amazon, Play, HMV etc already have the DVD for pre-order.
One of my alltime favorites TV series. Can't wait of getting it on DVD. Shame it's not on CD too. You can also see the intro in Tube under its German title: "Die Rückkehr zur Schatzinsel". Thanks from Israel.
I found out about the German intro yesterday, it didn't occur to me to try searching in
German! I contacted the owner of that intro and I'm waiting for him to accept a video response. In the meanwhile, I have put that intro into my favorites.
The music was composed by Terry McGuiness & Terry Oldfield, the brother of Mike Oldfield (Tubular Bells). I wrote to Terry quite a while ago to inquire about the music but alas he told me it hasn't been available since it's limited release as a 7" single way back in the '80s.
Some news for fans...
The DVD of the series is FINALLY out in the UK on March 24th 2008.

Will the series be available in Region 1 format? Do you have to have a Region 2 compatible DVD player to view this series?
