I cried a lot with Marianne´s story and I know how it feels. I wished I was like Elenor. She suffered but in the end she had release to her hope. Poor Marianne, she had more pain by marrying a man she didn´t love. That´s awful and unfair!
@xian19sarah the point is, can we control our feelings? no, we cannot. I think that romantic love is a very dangerous risk, you can win or loose. And it´s awful when you loose. It hurts too much.
High quality scene, great acting by Kate Winslet, the scenery is quite beautiful and melancholy, and well directed. This is a work of art, this is what art SHOULD ALWAYS be.
i know tht distraught feeling as well. Me n my ex always used to go to a canal place near to where he lived, and when we broke up i went back there 1 day, completly random, just to reflect. I'm over him completly now but i can identify to why she goes to look back
what a lovely piece of acting from 20 year old Kate Winslett, lots of us must have known what she felt - pure heartache - longing for the one who does'nt give you a thought. One of my favourite films - full of great characters and acting.
This is one of my favorite scenes in the movie, except for the end when she does marry Col. Brandon and Willowby is riding his horse on the hill, looking down ad seeing Marianne married and you just know his heart is broken.
Oh God....haven't we all had a 'Willoughby' in our life....and haven't we all felt just like this....I love this movie

Don't know why she's so upset; like Mr. Bennet said: "Ladies like to be crossed in love, from time to time"

So that they actually have a reason for being upset.

It is foolish.... but sometimes it happens, unconsciously, and it's an attempt to learn not to fall in love like this...(((

I found it in spanish :
No es amor el amor
Que cambia cuando un cambio encuentra,
O que se adapta con el distanciamiento a distanciarse.
¡Oh, no!, es un faro eternamente fijo
que desafía a las tempestades sin nunca estremecerse;

He did love her. I felt for them both.
Love that movie, love Jane Austen as well.

boo hoo. Go back to Col. Branden.
He's more of a gentlemen AND is Alan Rickman. How much more do you need.
