Emekonen says "clearly" I don't know what apostolic succession means. Feel free to watch the video and determine that for yourself.
Catholics, like Protestants and all other religious people, have a lot of problems seeing anything else but what they believe. Because apostolic succession has morphed over a couple millennium into the current Catholic belief, it's often impossible for Catholics to see the original early church argument that produced the doctrine.
This guy has his own agenda. He clearly doesn't know what apostolic succession means, it cannot pertain to Protestants in any way, there is no line of succession there. LoL
had there been apostles after the original ones who knew or saw Jesus personally, there would be a continual succession of apostolic powers and responsibilities, including miracles, healing and perpetual scripture revelations. None of these things happened, so the so called apostles who claimed leadership over the body of Christ are false, they are mere men who wanted to exert power over men in the guise of God, but for their own selfish interests.
@emekonen How do you know that apostolic succesion do not apply Protestants? Appostolic succession in the Roman Catholic trandition refers to the "traditions" and authority passed on from one Apostle to a successor. The question now becomes.....is this a tradition that is supported in scripture and if so, then where in scripture is this stated?
@artimusification Catholics do not believe they need to support their beliefs with scripture. The unwritten word (tradition) is on the same level as the written word (The Bible) in the Catholic Church. This is made possible by apostolic succession. The true Catholic believer will never concede an inch on apostolic succession because without it the dogmas of the Church are rendered baseless. Apostolic succession is to Catholicism as the first vision is to Mormonism.
@artimusification It is indeed a Roman Catholic tradition that authority was passed from the apostles to successor bishops in the churches. However, the question is not only whether that is supported by Scripture, but where did such a tradition come from? There is no such tradition in the early fathers of the church, and I have shown in this video that there is tradition in Irenaeus (2nd century) and Cyprian (3rd century) AGAINST the current tradition.
