Bonnie & Clyde over The Graduate! The Wild Bunch over Midnight Cowboy! Chinatown over The Godfahter part ll! JAWS! Dog Day Afternoon, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and barry Lyndon are better than Jaws! Network over Taxi Driver! Kramer Vs. Kramer deserved it, Rainman, Do the Right Thing, The Pianist, Mystic River and The Crying Game did too, But Dr.Strangelove, 2001: A Space Odyssey, a Clockwork Orange, Badlands, Days of Heaven, Blade Runner, Shawshank, Seven, The Thin Red Line were good picks
Badlands over The Exorcist???? Also, Taxi Driver, Brokeback Mountain & The Red Shoes all were robbed in their respective years, & none of them were on this list. Blade Runner was foolishly overlooked by the Academy in 1982. Benjamin Button? Are you mad? Taxi Driver in '76 gets my vote although Network is a great film. Pretty good list up until the recent ones. There must have been something better than the sound of music!!! Mean streets instead of Badlands. But what on earth is a christmas story doing in there? Do you really prefer Chaplin to Unforgiven? OMG
Some of these choices are great such as apocalypse now ,singing in the rain and casablanca and the royal tenenbaums and clockwork orange but not so sure about others..eg wizard of oz, star wars, jaws, blade runner and gangs of new york but nice video :)
@hamofwheat CASABLANCA was released in November of 1942 but the Academy fudged the nominations period back then and held it for 1943 consideration since it had been shown in New York and not Los Angeles. Maybe learn about a few things before embarrassing yourself so thoroughly with the hate-filled invective.
Actually, Schindlers List, Rebecca, All quiet on the western Front, Broadway Melody, Casablanca, All about Eve, From here to eternity, Patton and The Godfather are all best picture winners.
1971 - The Last Picture Show 1973 - Aguirre, The Wrath of God 1975 - Nashville 1976 - Taxi Driver 1977 - Annie Hall 1978 - Midnight Express 1979 - Being There 1981 - Reds 1982 - Sophie's Choice 1985 - Ran 1987 - Good Morning, Vietnam 1988 - The Thin Blue Line 1989 - Do The Right Thing 1991 - JFK 1992 - Unforgiven 1994 - Pulp Fiction 1995 - Casino 1998 - Plesantville 1999 - Being John Malkovich 2000 - High Fidelity 2001 - Mulholland Dr. 2002 - Adaptation Continued...

@MarCrisViTa Yea, you are obviously a great Hitchcock fan, and though I appreciate him tremendously, his films ARE always flawed (as are MOST films, if truth be told). Sure, Hitchcock was over-looked for an Oscar after "Rebecca", but he certainly did not deserve it for ALL those late '50's/early '60's films.
agree with most but a few, Jaws for 75 is crazed, I mean One Flew Cuckoo's Nest and Dog Day Afternoon are masterpieces, and Nashville and Barry Lyndon are better than Jaws as well. 1961 - La Dolce Vita 1963 - 8½ 1965 - The Hill 1969 - Midnight Cowboy was the right choice 1992 - Unforgiven 1994 - Pulp Fiction 2000- Almost Famous 2002 - City of God 2005- Brokeback Mountain 2008 - Milk
I agree with almost everything, except the thin red line, i didn't think tht film was all that good, also i would have chosen Pan's Labyrinth over children of men, but CoM is still a great choice
hey not bad. did you not like Braveheart? Cuz that seriously was the best film of 1995 by far in my mind. Seven was good, but not a film like Braveheart.
Continuing: 61-West Side Story 63-8 1/2 65-Dr Zhivago 66-Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 69-Midnight Cowboy 70-MASH 73-Exorcist 77-I tie it between Star Wars and Annie Hall. 78-Deer Hunter 81-Raiders of the Lost Ark 82-Sophie's Choice 83-Fanny and Alexander 88-Who Framed Roger Rabbit 89-Do The Right Thing 91-Silence of the Lambs 92-Unforgiven 97-LA Confidential 98-Saving Private Ryan 99-American Beauty 2000-Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon 01-Moulin Rouge To be continued...
Here are my picks for each year. If I skip a year, it means I agree with you. 27/28-Metropolis 28/29-Pandora's Box 30/31-City Lights 31/32-Scarface 35-The Informer 36-Modern Times 37-Snow White and the Seven Dwarves 38-Grand Illusion 42-Magnificent Ambersons 43-Casablanca 44-Double Indemnity 47-La Belle et la Bette 49-Bicycle Thieves 50-Sunset Blvd 54-On the Waterfront 55-Night of the Hunter 56-Seven Samurai 57-12 Angry Men 59-Some Like it Hot To be continued...
dude this is a great list youve got some awesome movies on there like "all Quiet on the western front","The Lost Weekend","The Gold Rush","The Guns Of Navarone" and "The Good,The Bad And The Ugly"
Boogie Nights compared to Titanic? Your kidding me, right? You can not alternate the winning of Titanic. But besides that idgaf, but you cant mess with Titanic. LOL.
Too many Hitckcok movies. He's an awesome director but neither LIfeboat, Shadow of a Doubt, The Lady Vanishes or The Byrds are best picture material. In the case of Rear Window that was the year of On the Watefront and Seven Samurai so it's a hard one. Totally agree in Vertigo, Psycho, Rebecca and North by Northwest.
Too many Hitckcock movies. He's an awesome director but neithert, Lifeboat, the Birds or Shadow of a doubt are best picture material. In the case of rear window that was the year of On the Waterfront ann Seven Samurai so it's a hard one. Good video
Some of my alternatives: 1941-Citizen Kane 1950-Sunset Boulevard 1957-Paths Of Glory 1964-Dr. Strangelove 1968-2001: A Space Odyssey 1971-A Clockwork Orange 1974-The Conversation 1976-Taxi Driver 1979-Being There 1990-Goodfellas 1994-Pulp Fiction 1995-Leaving Las Vegas 1996-Fargo 2001-Mulholland Drive 2005-Capote 2006-Letters From Iwo Jima
1994 Was a tough one, Forrest Gump and Shawshank Redemption are two of the greatest movies of all time...2008 was Benjamin Button all the way, Slumdog Millionaire was a handout/
I love Boogie Nights, I might have to take LA Confidential in 1997. I would probably have taken The Third Man in 1949 but I do love the 1948 choice, Treasure of the Sierra Madre.
good stuff. i appreciate the auteurist approach to your selections. I like how you selected the 5 Hitchcock films in the 50s, Vertigo being my favorite and what I consider his best. Hard to argue against the Kubrick films as well. Props for The Proposition, Hillcoat is a fantastic filmmaker and Guy Pearce is one of the best actors of the generation. I'm glad to see that you are a PTA fan because no one is making better films right now. TWBB and Magnolia definitely deserved the Oscar but as much
I think "LOTR" is the worst film winer ever. I really hate there movies.
The Oscar`s Academy hasn't prized a lot of films enyojables, as "Bonnie and Clyde", "The purple collour", "Master and commander", "Chintatown", etc
Finally, I think that Stevenleanna prefers action or emotional films, or Hitchcook or Spielberg directions, because a lot of film, which he selects, should be winers.
Enjoyable, as always. I applaud several picks ("Gallopoli"; "Badlands"; "Days of Heaven"; "The Royal Tenenbaums"; "Back to the Future"; "Magnolia"; "Vertigo"; and "The Wizard of Oz" over "GWTW"), but I cringed at a few others ("The Sound of Music"; "Seven"; "Chaplin"; "Lost Horizon"; "A Christmas Story" and "The Birds"). I've never seen "Grave of the Fireflies". I'll try to find it. Thanks.
you have 3 DDL movies in there! wow just shows how great of an actor he truly is! you could even argue that last of the mohicans could have been in there making that 4 DDL movies
I see that you are a sci-fi, fantsy and war movie fan, love Coen bros and Hitchcock but...
the real alternative imho should be about movies that have left the biggest impact on the history of cinema and are best remembered... sorry... but Boogie Nights isn't one of those in 97... as Oz in 39... as concerns 97, it's either LA Confidential, Good Will Hunting or Titanic, but 39 is what really got an Oscar... Gone with the WIND
I like that you were including in the list: "It happenes one night", "Citizen Kane", "Rebeca","A stretcar named desire", "Vertigo","All about Eve", "A rear window", "Dr. Strangelove", "Lawrence of Arabia", "Bonnie and Clyde", "2001", "The clockwork orange", "The godfather", "Chinatown", "Jaws", "Apocalypse Now", "Raging Bull", "Blade Runner", "Goodfellas", "The thin red line", "There will be blood".
I really love The Princess Bride, but in no way is it a superior film to The Last Emperor. That was one of the finest choices for a Best Picture in the entire history of the Academy.
Why doesn't anybody ever think that "The Passion of the Christ" should have won Best Picture in 2004! It was the biggest box office hit that year and it has become one of the most outstanding films in cinima history!
Youre right about Best Score, but I strongly disagree about it not winning Best Picture. Compared to the other films that year, nothing ever came close to being as monumental as The Passion. I mean really, lets go over the other films that year.
I felt nothing special about this movie. It was just the classic underdog storyUnderdog wants to make the big-time, underdog gets a trainer, underdog get a shot at the big-time, underdog makes it, tragedy strikes the underdog at the height of careerthis story was just the feminist version of Rocky only in the end Rocky gets euthanized. Gran Torino and Invictus were far better films by Eastwood.
I actually really liked this film and think it shouldve been nominated for Best Picture, but not have won. Its abstract story and directing made it a wonderful film to watch, but it just wasnt the IT film of the year. Its low ratings at the box office didnt help its popularity either.
I really hated this film, and not just because the characters sucked. The story was barely even creative. Two men go on a trip to wine country before one gets married. One is a laidback ladies man and the other is a hopelessly depressed drunk. WOW! Its The Lost Weekend meets Adaptation, so original! This movie was as boring as hell! Just like all the other films by Alexander Payne. Im still not sure it even should have been nominated.
When The Passion of the Christ wasnt nominated, I thought this would have won best picture, but I still didnt find this film that great. Out of all the films Martin Scorsese has done, this was one of my least favorite. Raging Bull and Taxi Driver were far better than this film. Although DiCaprio and Blanchetts acting was outstanding, Scorseses portrayal of Howard Hughes was just freaky.
I found this film very hard to watch. Mainly because the main character just seemed so hypercritical. She was completely devoted to, and loved her children, yet she encouraged women to kill theirs just because they didnt want the trouble of raising a child. Besides the story, the acting was good, but the directing, cinematography, editing, est. was just mediocre. Personally, I think this film should just have been nominated for Best Actress.
This was a good film and I very much enjoyed watching it, but it really isnt very different from other African civil war and refuge films. The film Blood Diamond was very similar to it.
Ray: The best part about this film was Jamie Foxxs acting. He hit Ray Charles right on the nail. But besides that, it was just another bio pic about a famous musician with a drug problem. I liked the film, but it just seamed too long and got a little boring at times.
Compared to all the other films that year, The Passion was far more superior. Yes, you could say theres nothing great about it, its just another Jesus movie, but here are some things The Passion does that no other Jesus film has done and why it is a milestone is cinema.
The Passion gave new meaning to the word historical accuracy. Even going as far as having all the actors speaking in the language of that time, Mel Gibson ability to recreate ancient Jerusalem drew audiences in and made them feel they were watching a live documentary. Mel Gibson also brought realism to the suffering and death of Jesus Christ that no other film had ever done before.
He even dumped the iconic blue eyed and blond haired Jesus figure and replaced him with a brown haired and brown eyed Jesus whose look resembled that of the middle-eastern Jew. Also, Mel Gibsons directing and Caleb Deschanels cinematography were executed beautifully in the film. And if this film wasnt really the greatest film that year, then why did it earn close to $400 million that year? A gross greater than any other film that year.
The Best Pictures I think should be from 1970-1979. 1970 Patton 1971 The Last Picture Show 1972 Slueth 1973 O Lucky Man! 1974 Chinatown 1975 One Flew Over The Cuckoo' Nest 1976 Rocky 1977 Star Wars 1978 Coming Home 1979 Apocalypse Now
I was surprised that "The Dark Knight" didn't get at least nominated. Though its an 'action' film, I thought the acting was quite good. Very good ensamble!
@LeilaRevolutionary God, no, absolutely not. "Gone Withe The Wind", impressive at it is, when all is said and done is a glamorous soap opera. "Wizard Of Oz" has more heart and meaning and depth than most films. And, as a recent Time listing made straight, IT is about "The Most Popular" film of all time, NOT "Avatar" and "Titanic" who simply made more money because ticket prices for them was 20x more than in 1939.
The Best Pictures I think should be from 1960-1969. 1960 Inherit the Wind 1961 Judgement at Nuremburg 1962 To Kill a Mockingbird 1963 Lilies of the Field 1964 Dr. Strangelove 1965 Cat Ballou 1966 A Man for All Seasons 1967 In the Heat of the Night 1968 Once Upon a Time in the West 1969 The Wild Bunch
The Best Pictures I think should be from 1950-1959. 1950 All About Eve 1951 A Streetcar Named Desire 1952 High Noon 1953 From Here to Eternity 1954 On the Waterfront 1955 Marty 1956 Giant 1957 The Bridge on the River Kwai 1958 Vertigo 1959 Ben-Hur
The Best Pictures I think should be from 1940-1949. 1940 Rebecca 1941 Citizen Kane 1942 Yankee Doodle Dandy 1943 Casablanca 1944 Going My Way 1945 The Bells of St. Mary's 1946 Its a Wonderful Life 1947 Gentlemens Agreement 1948 Hamlet 1949 The Third Man
The Best Pictures I think should be from 1928-1939. 1928 The Circus 1929 The Broadway Melody 1930 All Quiet on the Western Front 1931 City Lights 1932 Grand Hotel 1933 King Kong 1934 It Happened One Night 1935 The Informer 1936 San Francisco 1937 Way Out West 1938 Boys Town 1939 Gone with the Wind
also you really think Blade Runner is a best picture winner E.T was better then that also Star Wars maybe a masterpiece but Annie Hall was much better so was
1960 The Apartment
1969 Midnight Cowboy
1974 Godfather Part 2
1975 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest
1976 Rocky
1981 Chariots of Fire
1998 i think Saving Private Ryan is much better then The Thin Red Line and as for There Will Be Blood well it was a good one but i think No Country for Old Men is better next time pick some better movies
2001 The Royal Tenenbaums better then A Beautiful Mind
2004 Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind better then Million Dollar Baby
2006 Children of men better then The Departed
2008 Benjamin Button better then Slumdog
and a lot more movies are better then the ones that did won best picture man fuck you you dont know anything about movies or the oscars you fucking dumbass
aparley you are either on drugs or your just being a dumbass i mean 1928 the man who laughs better then Wings 1958 north by northwest better then Ben Hur 1973 Badlands better then The Sting 1978 Day of Heaven better then The Deer Hunter 1983 A Christmas Story better then Terms of Endearment 1985 Back to the future better then Out of Africa 1986 Blue Velvet better then Platoon WTF 1991 Barton Fink is better then Silence of the Lambs 1992 Chaplin better then Unforgiven
1939-Gone With the Wind 1940-The Great Dictator 1941-Citizen Kane 1942-Casablanca 1943-Double Inmdenity 1944-Lifeboat 1945-The lost Weekend 1946-It´s a Wonderful Life 1947-Great Expectations 1948-The Treasure of the Sierra Madre 1949-All The King´s Men
Good list, though I would have some different: 1965- Doctor Zhivago 1966- Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? 1967- The Graduate 1969- Midnight Cowboy 1973- The Exorcist 1974- The Godfather, Part II 1975- One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Barry Lyndon, OR Jaws all fit 1976- Taxi Driver OR Network 1977- Annie Hall 1978- Deer Hunter 1989- Do the Right Thing 1991- Silence of the Lambs 1994- Pulp Fiction 1998- Saving Private Ryan
Great list, i full agree with : streetcar, singin' in the rain (both 51 & 52 were terrible choices by the academy), Giant (waaay better than around the world), good bad n ugly (maybe virginia woolf too), i would have picked lion in winter for 68, clockwork for 71, i liked the sting for 73 but maybe also the exorcist, Network all the way for 76, i'd go with on golden pond or raiders for 81, goodfellas for 90, shawshank for 94, Gangs all the way for 02, children of men 06, blood 07
Some of the alternate winners in my opinion: 1971-The last picture Show 1973-American Graffiti 1981-Raiders of The Lost Ark 1987-Full Metal Jacket 1988-Dangerous Liaisons 1994-Pulp Fiction 1995-The Usual Suspects 1999-Being John Malkovich 2000-Traffic 2002-Adaptation. 2006-Babel
1971: The Last Picture Show is my #2. 1973: American Graffiti is my #3. 1981: Raiders is my #3. 1987: FMJ is my #2. 1988: Not even nominated. 1994: My #2. 1995: Not even nominated. 1999: Not even nominated. 2000: Not even nominated. 2002: My #5. 2006: Not even nominated.
"Network" is amazing! but I think "Taxi driver" should´ve won in 1976
Now 1977 "Annie Hall" was deserved!!!!
"Star Wars" is a masterpiece of Sciene Fiction, but "Annie Hall" has great actors, great screenplay, great story and it is more creative and imaginative, I think it was the best choice that year
"The Last Picture Show" should´ve won in 1971, but "Clockwork Orange" is excellent too...
"Days of Heaven" better than "The Deer Hunter"??????!!!!!! On my god, have you see The Deer Hunter??? It is far better.
Now 1982, I think "ET The Extraterrestrial" should´ve won that year, "Tootsie" was my 2° option and after that "Gandhi" (The original winner) "Blade Runner" for me is the 4° place
Nice vid. I don't agree with all of your selections, but there are some true greats here that should have won (like Chaplin, which is sinfully underrated). Regardless, this is very well done :)
Ah, but it was released in 1942 in limited release. Basically, I go by the date that the ass first hits the seat to watch the final film. The version screened was the final cut, and that's how I judge it. IMDb lists it as '42, so do I.
1939: "Gone With The Wind"; 1944: "Double Idenmity"; 1950: "Sunset Blvd"; 1956: "The Seventh Seal"; 1959: "Some Like It Hot"; 1960: "La Dolce Vita"; 1963: "Il Gattopardo"; 1966: "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf"; 1970: "Five Easy Pieces"; 1978: "Interiors"; 1980: "The Shining"; 1986: "Stand By Me"; 1991: "Silence of The Lambs"; 2000: "Billy Elliot"; 2001: "In The Bedroom"; 2002: "The Hours".
1939: "Gone With the Wind" is my #2. 1944: "Double Indemnity" is also my #2. 1950: "Sunset Blvd." is again my #2. 1956: "The Seventh Seal" is my #4. 1959: "Some Like It Hot" isn't even on my Top 5. 1960: "La Dolce Vita" is my #3. 1963: Haven't seen "Il Gattopardo." 1966: "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" is my #4. 1970: "Five Easy Pieces" is my #5. 1978: Haven't seen "Interiors." 1980: "The Shining" isn't even on my Top 5.
I felt that it was. But I give "Silence" credit where credit is due, with Hopkins and Foster winning Lead Actor and Actress. Levine's my #2 to Goodman.
Scilence oft the Lambs was great film, but it was not "The Greatest" as you say it is. If it's your favorite, then that's okay. As for Barton Fink, well, it's an acquiered taste for sure.
1957 had three exceptional films: "The Bridge on the River Kwai," "12 Angry Men," and "Paths of Glory." Any of the three would win in other years, but "Kwai" trumps 'em all.

I agree with most of the movies on the list. A few major objections though:
1946 - The Best Years of Our Lives
1949 - The Third Man
1961 - West Side Story
1978 - The Deer Hunter
1998 - Saving Private Ryan

Too many Hitckcok movies. He's an awesome director but neither LIfeboat, Shadow of a Doubt, The Lady Vanishes or The Byrds are best picture material. In the case of Rear Window that was the year of On the Watefront and Seven Samurai so it's a hard one. Totally agree in Vertigo, Psycho, Rebecca and North by Northwest.
Good Video

good stuff. i appreciate the auteurist approach to your selections. TWBB and Magnolia definitely deserved the Oscar but as much
rdub1050 1 year ago

Thanks.
jkfromcincty 1 year ago
Sound of Music-Yeah, no.
Se7en-That's a really good choice, actually!
Chaplin-NO!
Lost Horizon-NO!
Christmas Story-Nomination worthy, but a win? Nah.
The Birds-See Christmas Story.
Grave of the Fireflies is a must watch.

I really love The Princess Bride, but in no way is it a superior film to The Last Emperor. That was one of the finest choices for a Best Picture in the entire history of the Academy.

Why doesn't anybody ever think that "The Passion of the Christ" should have won Best Picture in 2004! It was the biggest box office hit that year and it has become one of the most outstanding films in cinima history!
seandeaon 2 years ago
It probably should´ve won Best Score, but it not even should´ve been nominated for Best Picture...
Million Dollar Baby, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Sideways, Collateral, The Aviator, Vera Drake, Hotel Rwanda and Ray are by far better.

Youre right about Best Score, but I strongly disagree about it not winning Best Picture. Compared to the other films that year, nothing ever came close to being as monumental as The Passion. I mean really, lets go over the other films that year.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Million Dollar Baby:
I felt nothing special about this movie. It was just the classic underdog storyUnderdog wants to make the big-time, underdog gets a trainer, underdog get a shot at the big-time, underdog makes it, tragedy strikes the underdog at the height of careerthis story was just the feminist version of Rocky only in the end Rocky gets euthanized. Gran Torino and Invictus were far better films by Eastwood.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind:
I actually really liked this film and think it shouldve been nominated for Best Picture, but not have won. Its abstract story and directing made it a wonderful film to watch, but it just wasnt the IT film of the year. Its low ratings at the box office didnt help its popularity either.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Sideways:
I really hated this film, and not just because the characters sucked. The story was barely even creative. Two men go on a trip to wine country before one gets married. One is a laidback ladies man and the other is a hopelessly depressed drunk. WOW! Its The Lost Weekend meets Adaptation, so original! This movie was as boring as hell! Just like all the other films by Alexander Payne. Im still not sure it even should have been nominated.
seandeaon 2 years ago
The Aviator:
When The Passion of the Christ wasnt nominated, I thought this would have won best picture, but I still didnt find this film that great. Out of all the films Martin Scorsese has done, this was one of my least favorite. Raging Bull and Taxi Driver were far better than this film. Although DiCaprio and Blanchetts acting was outstanding, Scorseses portrayal of Howard Hughes was just freaky.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Vera Drake:
I found this film very hard to watch. Mainly because the main character just seemed so hypercritical. She was completely devoted to, and loved her children, yet she encouraged women to kill theirs just because they didnt want the trouble of raising a child. Besides the story, the acting was good, but the directing, cinematography, editing, est. was just mediocre. Personally, I think this film should just have been nominated for Best Actress.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Hotel Rwanda:
This was a good film and I very much enjoyed watching it, but it really isnt very different from other African civil war and refuge films. The film Blood Diamond was very similar to it.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Ray: The best part about this film was Jamie Foxxs acting. He hit Ray Charles right on the nail. But besides that, it was just another bio pic about a famous musician with a drug problem. I liked the film, but it just seamed too long and got a little boring at times.
seandeaon 2 years ago
Compared to all the other films that year, The Passion was far more superior. Yes, you could say theres nothing great about it, its just another Jesus movie, but here are some things The Passion does that no other Jesus film has done and why it is a milestone is cinema.
seandeaon 2 years ago
The Passion gave new meaning to the word historical accuracy. Even going as far as having all the actors speaking in the language of that time, Mel Gibson ability to recreate ancient Jerusalem drew audiences in and made them feel they were watching a live documentary. Mel Gibson also brought realism to the suffering and death of Jesus Christ that no other film had ever done before.
seandeaon 2 years ago
This has been flagged as spam show
He even dumped the iconic blue eyed and blond haired Jesus figure and replaced him with a brown haired and brown eyed Jesus whose look resembled that of the middle-eastern Jew. Also, Mel Gibsons directing and Caleb Deschanels cinematography were executed beautifully in the film. And if this film wasnt really the greatest film that year, then why did it earn close to $400 million that year? A gross greater than any other film that year.
seandeaon 2 years ago
If I was in charge of nominating and picking the Best Picture films of 2004, this is what my list would have looked like:
Best Picture of 2004:
Million Dollar Baby, The Aviator, The Passion of the Christ (winner), Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, and Ray.

LeilaRevolutionary 2 years ago 14
@LeilaRevolutionary God, no, absolutely not. "Gone Withe The Wind", impressive at it is, when all is said and done is a glamorous soap opera. "Wizard Of Oz" has more heart and meaning and depth than most films. And, as a recent Time listing made straight, IT is about "The Most Popular" film of all time, NOT "Avatar" and "Titanic" who simply made more money because ticket prices for them was 20x more than in 1939.

Now 1977 "Annie Hall" was deserved!!!!
"Star Wars" is a masterpiece of Sciene Fiction, but "Annie Hall" has great actors, great screenplay, great story and it is more creative and imaginative, I think it was the best choice that year
Gliskor 2 years ago 2
1997 Titanic-Totally deserved in 1997!!!!!
1998 "Shakespeare in love"-Undeserved, but "Thin Red Line" shouldn´t have won, "Saving Private Ryan" deserved Best Picture!
1999 American Beauty-Excellent, many great movies that year..but "Magnolia" the best??!! you should´ve put "Fight Club", or "Being John Malkovich"...
2000 Gladiator-"Traffic" should´ve won, "O Brother" is good but not for Best Picture

Badlands better than American graffiti, The Exorcist and The Sting in 1973??!!...What the hell??? o_o

"The Last Picture Show" should´ve won in 1971, but "Clockwork Orange" is excellent too...

Ah, but it was released in 1942 in limited release. Basically, I go by the date that the ass first hits the seat to watch the final film. The version screened was the final cut, and that's how I judge it. IMDb lists it as '42, so do I.
