I have 99 Disco II, and they still have locking diffs, its just that you dont have it inside anymore, you can still lock the diffs from underneith, they say its just for service personel but thats horse shit!!!..lol I lock my diffs all the time when going to the off road park.
@TheAffiliatesAgenda Yeah, same deal with 2000's. I've actually added the linkage and shifter to my truck so I can engage it from the inside. If I would have had the ability to that that here in this vid, I dont think it would have taken two tries IMO. Experience would have helped too. haha
Only thing stopping both those vehicles going through first time was tyres. Even some decent All-Terrains would have got them through there I reckon. The Land Rover gets my vote though. But I'm biased because I'm a definite Land Rover fan :)
@camdisco24 its simple as the wheels begin to loose traction power is automatically placed to those wheels, in order to compensate keep steady throttle pressure and as the wheels loose traction lift off the throttle a bit to allow the wheels to regain traction...the more power you put to the wheels that don't have traction the deeper you'll dig yourself in...also make sure your center differential is locked that will help alot
@crichichi Right! This was our 2nd time off road so we had no experience. This was 2 1/2 years ago. At that point my Disco didn't have locking diff. But it does now! World of difference!
@crichichi great insight but maby what u dont see is that these are regular road tires, and thats some slippery ass mud. Better tires are needed for what ur talking about.
Even with the dodgy road tyres the Land Rover win over the Jeep. Good to see a video showing how impressively the Land Rover works off road in reverse. I'd like to see a Hummer or Jeep do that.
I agree, but those were solid a/t tires. The clay mud around here does no justice for tire tread. It will turn mud terrains into racing slicks if its wet enough!
The landrover owner needs to change his tyres to a more suitable tyre for off roading, and the Jeep owner needs to put his shirt back on and cover his pasty white body up and sell the Jeep and get a Landrover.
Most Disco I's II's will out preform any jeep. A landy with CDL is unstoppable. Add lockers all around and they will go places you cant imagine.
I agree with your argument about the LR brand as of 2009. But... hate to break it to you, Jeep is heading down the same path. Gone are the days where LR and Jeep focus solely on off road ability. People just dont appreciate that as much nowadays.
i dont know if we watched two different things but the rover driver backed out of the first attempt without even thinking about it. The jeep driver just sat there and spun like a lump on a log. So who needs to learn how to drrive? it may not be the most extreme video, but they may not be experienced so who are we to say?
At lesat they're not a the mall. And hey, where's your off roading videos? You can talk trash about other vids but you cant put out your own?
i only said he need to learn to drive because he could have easily made that with a bit more effort and the reason i dont have any off road vid is... well i dont know why i dont usually pull tha camera when i i play in the mud i ride atvs my 2wd powerstroke prolly wouldnt go far
yeah man... this video is about two years old. This was probally the 2nd time we ever went off road. To be honest, our trucks dont even look the same anymore with the mods we have done. Off roading is about experience, and in this vid, we had none. I just leave it up here because its funny to see how we started out. Thanks for the comment, i'll be sure to tell my buddy he needs to "stop mudding the soccer mom 4X4" the next time we hit the mountains.
General Grabber A/t2 on the Discovery. Not sure about the jeep, but I know they're not street tires. Clay mud down here does no justice for any type of tread.
Actually believe it or not, both were running all terrain tires. My disco has General Grabbers A/t2. The mud was insanely thick, it practically made our tires into racing slicks! Thanks for watching

Both had A/t tires, but the mixture of clay mud and inexperience is what did us in! (But mostly inexperience.) ;)
Thanks for watching.

@camdisco24
Ah, well... I guess that any set of ATs full up with clay may as well be slicks :)
