There is something very very special about this band...... the music, the feel, the vibe, the sweet melody & tempo... They have a spiritual edge that make them one in a million!
I'm a Gaelgóir or a speaker of Irish Gaelic and I can actually understand nearly everything he says in these songs in Scottish Gaelic! The two languages are very similar and beautiful! I've never been to Scotland but I want to go there. Albain is Éire go brách! ;)
I remember when I was a student, I attended a series of courses which subject was the history of Scotland. I didn't know anything about this country and I was very interested, I remember when I was taught about the story of Flora MacDonald, a beautiful story indeed....
Flora MacDonald was a cousin of the Laird of Largie in Kintyre and she lived with them before emigrating, they still have some things that she left behind. A very interesting history.
Trichoone....thank you very much. I was on the Isle of Skye, only a month ago. Beautiful!!! We saw the MacDonald castle, and Donvegan Castle...but I think our highlight was the north, Flora's monument, the thatch-roofed huts families lived in a century ago, and the ancient ruins of the old Dumtulm castle.
@waterfordwedgwood thanks for your comment , i also visited all you mention we stayed in Staffin to the north of the island before the Bridge was built a bit of its charm was lost at that time , you get an amazing feeling when visiting the monument and grave of flora --great memories for me also its a while since ive been .
it means basically "go Scotland woohoo"... but it was never really heard of until that stupid braveheart movie... now everyman who thinks he is a scottish history buff says it.
The Braveheart movie; indeed, was very flawed, but they did not use "Saor Alba,' which literally means,'Free Scotland." They used the saying, " Alba gu bragh,' literally,' Scotland forever!" Slainte!
I think if he stopped a the border the end would have been the same, but we`ll never know. Thats one of the frustrations of history. If he`d gained the crown of Britain the Stuarts would have ended the Union of the parliaments, rightly or wrongly.
Bonnie Prince Charlie was only interested in Scotland as a means to an end of getting the british crown. If hed stopped at the Border with England we might have had Independance in Scotland for the last 200 odd years.
Dont have time to translate the whole thing, sorry, but the chorus roughly translates as;
Oh love what power there was in that embrace that has left me in union with you today, who could ever have seen all that has grown from a kiss one spring evening
thank you so much for doing a tribute to Flora, and such a beautiful one, too. I am in love with Scotland and the story of the '45 and Bonnie Prince Charlie, and I have a deep affection for ll characters involved - especially Flora, of course! Feel free to have a look at my own tributes if you want... thank you again!!
This has become one of my most favorite Gaelic songs from Runrig. Tapadh leis an duine a chuir an t-òran air an àite seo. 'S toigh leam ciamar a mheasgaich iad an dàn 's an ceòl ann. 'S ann mar "salm" Gàidhlig a tha an òran...
even though the words, i cannot understand, it tends to make the song more peaceful and relaxing, wonderful type of music. love the video and the song Trichoone
I regret to say i dont understand a word of this song but i think its beautiful
