So the windows vista setup is the same as windows 7 yeah? or would i need to do something else - i don't have a floppy drive, i mean who the hell uses them anymore.
@LightstylezGaming You only need a floppy if you're installing RAID onto a Windows XP computer because XP cannot load the RAID controller and drivers from any drive other than a floppy. But Vista or Win 7 can use a floppy or any other drive such as a CD drive or USB flash drive, making RAID installation easier than on XP.
You could, but you want your OS to be on the raid array so that you get performance for both your OS and games. It's better to just backup files, and dump the OS first.
@knuck7 no, wtf the drives must be the same speed, or the slowest drive wud bottleneck the faster ones... if u wanna raid then raid 2 SSD's of the same speed.
@imtryingtowatchvids I want to put them off of raid what do you reccomend i do? I want to Keep my OS and all my files so all i have to do is remove the raid and put in a disc and then im done. But whatever is possible would be great.
@knuck7 lol, just back up ur files and reinstall OS, i think its the only way to do it althought im not sure, but thats what i did, i back up my files, and reinstalled the OS.
@imtryingtowatchvids Back up files how? Like system image because that did not work it kept the RAID setting.Do i use the backup option on the PC? idk please help.
In a RAID configuration whether it be a RAID 0 or 1, will partitioning the drives in the array increase the performance of the drives or will slow the drives down.
I've been using raid 0 for awhile now and decided to switch to raid 1 cause windows acted up on my and had to reinstall anyways. Long story short, I missed the speed raid 0 gave me and switched back. Screw reliability, I want speed :D
@GeekyNine with SSD the risk is nothing pretty much. The only risk would be the raid controller failing pretty much. They have got better since 2008-2009 though, so you are looking at like idk a 0.05 or low % failure rate?
@kungfufreak360 Vista and 7 will autodetect a Raid array as long as Raid has been correctly enabled and configured in both the BIOS and Raid setup utility. Also, Vista and 7 often autodetect and install the Raid drivers and controller, if not they can load them from any type of storage device. As he says in the video, with XP the Raid drivers and controller can only be installed from a Floppy drive which has to be connected to a proper Floppy port, a USB Floppy will not work.
@sprayframe if your motherboard does have an integrated raid controller, then no, you don't need any card. Check you motherboard specifications on the official website or it's manual, but most modern mb's have integrated controllers =)
I have two hard drive one drive have a windows intalled other non so in case fron
drive I get copy and past it in another driver but I like the way you are doing automatically if you do work in one driver its automatically copied to another one so if one driver failed you can obtain your data from another driver excellent but I do not understand fully about ..mirrored..and a striped...so please would you mind to explain me little bit about that thanks.......
I already have a 30gb SSD which I use as my boot up drive and a 1tb media drive. Is there any way I can add a second 30gb SSD and run it in raid 0 with my first one without losing all my data and having to reinstall windows?
@Mast3rSkillz doesn't look like it, you can just back up the data though and once you have windows reinstalled just put the data back, I know that sounds like a bitch but I think that's your only option.
Mine in striped doesn't combine them I'm using a 160 and a 80gb drive both of the same manufacturer. And it shows 149.01gb in stripped. But if I put them in Spanning they combine.
If I have 3 hdd and I wanto 2 of them in a raid 1 and the other working as a simple hdd, should I also add the 3th as an spanned? or what should I do? by the way, my mainboard uses the same software to setup the raid arrays.
Fantastic video! Thanks. Still unclear whether or not Raid setup is possible if Windows already exists on one of the drives. I have tried adding a new dive and using my existing C: drive and then using Complete PC Restore in Windows. This did not work. Is a clean reinstall of Windows necessary to over come my Raid creation problem? Thanks.
@amd1090t64 As part of the RAID setup process all data is deleted from the drives, so any previous Windows installations will be deleted too. So yes, a clean installation of Windows is necessary if you're wanting to set up a RAID system.
i have windows already installed and want to setup a raid, can i install nvraid with windows already installed? i don't have a floppy drive either. after i setup the raid i want to clone my current system drive to the raid array. is this possible?
@zacheryandersen Buy A raid card there cheap you can waste days on end trying to get it to work he is also missing the fact that if your mother board dosnt support raid your really wasting your time most older models dont , best bet get a sdd drive and it comes with software to copy your current drive copy and throw your hdd drive in as a slave trust me ssd or raid card

I have a 1 tb samsung spinpoint f3 and a 500gb wd caviar blue. Can I raid 0 these? What would be the complete total gb's after doing so? PLEASE HELP!!!
@ihagtafuith Yeah you can put these in RAID but it's best to use identical disks for best results. Also the system will see the smallest drive as the largest, so the system will see 1TB instead of the 1.5TB you'd expect.
@knockdoun Yes, the performance of 2 40GB SSD's striped in raid 0 would be a lot higher than a single 80GB SSD drive. You should get some very fast transfer rates with that setup, even with 2 mechanical 160GB caviar blues i'm getting about 170mbps which is double what I got with a single caviar blue.
If you have XP, it's possible to add the RAID drivers to the installation without having to press F6 and install them manually from a Floppy. This can be done by creating a customised bootable Windows installation disc, using the freeware program n-Lite. Other drivers, desktop themes and Service Packs can also be added in this way.
Awesome... I have a question. Does setting up RAID 0 use in any way the processor resources when doing the separation "striping" of the data? If so how much? Or if no processor resources are used then is it because the motherboard takes care of it completely?? Thanks!!!
I have 1 hard drive that has all of my information. I just bought an identical hdd. Can I set up RAID 0 without reinstalling windows and transferring all of my data? I set up RAID 0 in BIOS, but it wouldn't load windows. I disconnected the new hard drive and it does boot.

Question for everyone on RAID. If I have 3 500GB hard drives, and I do RAID 0 on two; can I use RAID 1 on the the RAID 0 and the extra 500 GB hard drive, or does it need to be a TB hard drive (instead of the extra 500GB drive), or is it just not possible.
you can use two of em in raid 0 and let the other one backup all data from the RAID 0 HDD but your backup drive needs to be bigger than your raid 0 HHD's
25 years of working on PC's and I never knew this ... I feel like such a monkey lol ... Thanks man for explaining this in a way even a monkey like me understands it lol ...
please tell me about the drivers part, do i need download drivers from the hdd manufacturer before hand and put it on a cd, flash drive or something? tell me everything i need to know about the drivers part
@Vlad1293 u should get the drivers from the motherboard comp. most motherboards these days can just have u put the drivers on a flash drive. so once ur in ur raid controller bios thing. u just got to have the mother board search ur usb drive for drivers.
I have WD External my-book pro Dual Hard disk 1TB (each Hard disk 500gb)
It have One partition of 1tb . My external my-book pro device get burn b.c of High voltage and i bought new adapter its not working with it either. I took both hard disk from it they are fine. I Attach each drive to my pc but not showing data. Now i need my Data and want to use in my system....
so you only need the drivers when it not combining the drives i just did raid 0 with 2 500gb blacks and worked awesome on win 7 and i tryed to load the drivers during install but wouldent take them ?
Hi there nice video :) I have some questions though I just bought a new gaming rig and bought an SSD for it . Why is it most ppl use 2 SSD whats the advantage in that ? Do they use one for windows the other for games or is it just to get more space ? Im sorry I don`t know anything about this please write me a pm anyone :)
Where do I get the RAID driver for ASUS P6T (normal version, not deluxe) for windows 7 64-bit? PLease answer quickly, and please attatch a link. I cannot find it on asus[.]com
Hi Is it possible to have 2 x 3.5"1tb harddrives connected from an e-Sata with one cloned with xp (that I am already running).I need these to be inside an external case so I can boot my laptop and my pc whenever I need to move from oneto the other.And is their a form of raid where you can keep both harddrives seperate but connected through one eSata port?
@simplyvitalya No!!,because there are two normal hd in raid 1 that save all information of velociraptos raid 0.The two normal hd never have use, because if only a automatically backups!
i'm using a asus M3A MVP deluxe and i want to do raid so i bought 2 western digital caviar black 640gb's .. now i wanted to go raid i went in to bios took RAID i only have the options
IDE - RAID - AHCI ( or something )
but when i reboot i configure my raid 0
the computer puts my CD drive also as RAID
and when i want to install windows 7 it says that they need a driver for the CD / DVD drive ?? lolz xD anyone know how this can be done ? :(
so easy ? omg thanks :D i wanna get myself 2 X 640gb black caviar Western digitals :-) so it actually puts them together so it will be 2 x 640 gb = 1.2 tb raid 0 drive lol awsome ^^ i heard good things about the black caviar performence wise :D and for the capacity it looks kick ass :))
mate over my years of building pc's i have never really got into raid. i guess i was a lil scared, but you have made it crystal clear and now am running 2 x 256MB SSD's on raid 0 with vista ! thank you so much for your help !
i got my windows installed when i bought my computer, so my question is if i can reuse that windows since i dont have a CD but the key can be found in the OS
can i use srt on raid0?

Question for everyone on RAID. If I have 3 500GB hard drives, and I do RAID 0 on two; can I use RAID 1 on the the RAID 0 and the extra 500 GB hard drive, or does it need to be a TB hard drive (instead of the extra 500GB drive), or is it just not possible.
musicgeneration1 1 year ago
@musicgeneration1 if u have three HDs, u can do raid 5
llUnLiMiTeDll 1 year ago
@musicgeneration1
you can use two of em in raid 0 and let the other one backup all data from the RAID 0 HDD but your backup drive needs to be bigger than your raid 0 HHD's

please tell me about the drivers part, do i need download drivers from the hdd manufacturer before hand and put it on a cd, flash drive or something? tell me everything i need to know about the drivers part
Vlad1293 1 year ago
@Vlad1293 u should get the drivers from the motherboard comp. most motherboards these days can just have u put the drivers on a flash drive. so once ur in ur raid controller bios thing. u just got to have the mother board search ur usb drive for drivers.
randomtechdude 1 year ago
@randomtechdude or i guess in newer operating systems, u can load the drivers during the windows install

can you set up raid-0 if you have 2 different types of HDD capacities?
bbaut1sta 1 year ago
@bbaut1sta
Yes, but the array will only be double the size of your smallest drive.
For example, if you have a 300gb drive and a 500gb drive your array will be 600gb.
FogDogg 1 year ago
so you only need the drivers when it not combining the drives i just did raid 0 with 2 500gb blacks and worked awesome on win 7 and i tryed to load the drivers during install but wouldent take them ?

Is it possible to enable raid 0 on 1 Hard drive or must it be 2?
VirtuosoX1 1 year ago
@VirtuosoX1 2
because there must be at least 2 hard drives or more to make them into raid 0 to work together.

Where do I get the RAID driver for ASUS P6T (normal version, not deluxe) for windows 7 64-bit? PLease answer quickly, and please attatch a link. I cannot find it on asus[.]com

@MarHer95
Obviously your best bet would be to go to ASUS website. If I remember correctly, you can find it in Goggle's search engine under Asustek.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
Thanks!

If I setup Raid 0 after I have installed my OS (Windows 7 in this case) will I have to install the OS again?

@Yamboozle
all data will be lost.
You have to install all programs again
simplyvitalya 1 year ago
@simplyvitalya No!!,because there are two normal hd in raid 1 that save all information of velociraptos raid 0.The two normal hd never have use, because if only a automatically backups!
