I can appreciate Family Guy bringing people here, especially after reading ace's comment, but I do wish more people would've known on thier own. Not only is this an amazing dance but the movie in itself was absolutely beautiful. I don't think people should dislike musicals before they actually see the movie. The plot in a musical can make all the difference. I know that this movie and this dance will always have a special place in my heart.
given the fact that chitty-chitty bang bang and the james bond books were written by ian fleming, and given the fact that albert broccoli produced the movies based on chitty chitty bang bang and some of the james bond books, it seems that broccoli had an affection for fleming stuff. or else broccoli was only trying to make money by using fleming stuff. though chitty--- is not a disney movie, it seems like the kind of movie that disney often made.
I for one was not a fan of musicals and therefore never saw this movie. However, I am huge FG fan and I was so impressed by the "Bag of Weed" song that I searched tofind what it parodied. Thankfully I saw this amazing clip and the even more amazing routine.
So for those who would want to attack FG for using this song, just remember that there is the flip side to the coin which is that people like myself do want to see the original after viewing the parody.
I just think it's lazy. It's one thing to slightly parody old material to create new media. It's just plain lazy when you depend almost entirely on material that you have to pay THOUSANDS of dollars in royalties every time they use the actual unaltered material. I haven't laughed an episode of Family guy in like 2 years. Namely because alot of the pop culture is completely out of context when used. I prefer he subtle parodies of the venture brothers. Family guy has just gotten predictable.
But isn't it a good thing that Chitty Chitty Bang Bang's creators get thousands of dollars in royalties plus more fame than they had two years ago for this routine and song? BTW, it might be a stylistic choice that FG uses "out of left field" pop culture cutaway gags. Everyone's sense of humor is individual.
@ace11rothstein I completely agree. Musicals are generally not my cup of tea and I've never seen Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. If it hand't been for FG's parody I would perhaps never have seen this lovely number.
Funny thing is, more people know this new Family Guy version now than the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang version, which was released in 1968. Shame, as well as interesting. I have mixed feelings about it. Definately a great but grossly underated movie, I guess you can say it's sort of an honor to catch the eye of such a more popular show. Still don't like the involvement of drugs in it though.
Family Guy. I was responding to Hero3128. They based one of their most recent musical pieces on Me ol' Bamboo during an episode about the legalization of marijuana. It's called "A Bag of Weed" if you want to check it out, but don't expect much on YouTube. Family Guy clips are very often removed by YouTube.
A gentleman's got a walking stick A seaman's got a gaf And the merry men of Robin Hood They used a quarterstaff On the Spanish plains inside their canes They hide their ruddy swords But we make do with an old bam boo And everyone applauds 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 Hey Me ol' bam-boo, me ol' bam-boo You'd better never bother with me ol' bam boo You can have me hat or me bum ber shoo But you'd better never bother with me ol bam boo. that all i know lol !!!
Ahh, i love dick van dyke i remember watching him in mary poppins and chitty chitty bang bang, and then watching diagnosis murder on days off from school! Was on after neighbours i think?!
I have to say that I am appalled by all the idiots who think Family Guy's 'bag of Weed' came first. What kind of a childhood did you people have, did you never see Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
I hope you are kidding - Me 'ol Bamboo was written specifically for the 1968 movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. Family Guy parodied the song as "A Bag o' Weed". I enjoy what Fanily Guy does with the classics...
Yeah, but I don't really care and I don't think anyone else who's watched the film does. The accent is part of the charm, what the the accent is exactly.
Dick van Dyke, master of improvising

Love how Dick van Dyke runs out of the scene when the dancing gets more spectacular.

Now everybody gather 'round and listen if you would,
When I tell you every person needs a way of feeling good,
Every kitty needs a ball of string and every dog a stick,
But all you need is a bag of weed to really get a kick!
