@Ffojt erm...when did i say it wasn't? I like the studio version but I just think this version is truer to the ramones sound.
What i meant was the End Of the Century LP as a whole. If it had had the bite of the demos + a touch of refinement, it would be lauded as a classic today instead of an embarrassement
Both versions are great, the phill spector version sounds like an really great rock song with some pop tones. And this sounds like a really great punk song with hard drums and fast guitar and bass.
DANYS SAIDDDDDDDDDDS WE VE GOTA GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!! RAMONESSSSSSS YESSSSSSSSSS MEN !! ARGENTINA IS RAMONES MANIA !!!! HERE IS YOUR HOMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE !
@j1mmyism The thing is, if you believe this demo is better than the original, you don't really like the music. The original "Danny says" is one of the greatest songs the Ramones ever made, where they manage to play a slow, sad song and still be more punk than any other punk-band throughout history,
really, Johnny Ramone was very unpleased with "end of the century"...
I don't know how he suffer playing the guitar for hours and hours to be covered up by orchestral instruments in the final tracks.
For example, do you remember r'n'r radio is one of my favourites, but it 's a million of times better live. Spector transformed End of century in a overmuch pop album.
And I ain't saying they are bad records , but they aren't a properly said Ramones songs.
@pbot2029 Then again, Johnny didn't write any of the Ramones' songs. He was probably being diplomatic because he hated recording the Spector album, and buggered off home in a huff as soon as he'd done the bare minimum. The album's session musicians and Meatloaf production didn't work. 'Danny Says' is unarguably a prettier and more dramatic song on 'End of the Century', but this one sounds like the Ramones proper. Some great Marky drum-fills towards the end, too. Thanks, lotekkicks08!
1) Phil Spector RUINED "End of the Century"...If Tommy produced it it woulda been just as good as the prior 4. 2) This cover is a lot better than the actual one. Johnny and Marky wanted to have it wearing their jackets and Dee Dee and Joey wanted it without; Dee Dee and Joey won since Marky "wasn't a member"...I like this cover. 3) It's true, this version is about 100x better than record's version.

This is great, but where on earth did this demo come from? Obviously not from any of the End of the Century releases I've heard, being as it doesn't have that Phil Spector sound. Just curious.
Ok, thanks. I've heard several versions via YouTube uploads and elsewhere on the web, but never from a cd (I'm presuming the extended vers. you're referring to was released on cd)). The only "hard-copy" I'm familiar with is the vinyl LPs I have at home - which I purchased, btw, way back when the album was first released.
if the record had sounded like this it would have been a fucking masterpiece

@JohnnyFriendly Have you ever listened to music? "Danny says" is one of the greatest songs the Ramones ever made.

Yes yes, we all like this version instead of the original, but I think Joey wanted it the way they released it, after all, he was a fan of Spector

Johnny Ramone said that with this song, Phil's style and sensibility really brought out the best parts of it.

phil spector was an insane person if he changed this song.
(well, he killed a person too. but i think this is a bigger crime)
lilium14100 1 year ago 17
@lilium14100 but the biggest crime ever is that ramones never played live this kind of songs
CronopioCommunist 4 months ago
@lilium14100 I disagree. I think both versions (this and the studio one) are absolutely superb. It's just a different approach.

It's amazing how much better the Ramones are when Phil Spector didn't begin to mess with the music. Take this song for instance!

all the demos are better except for Rock and Roll Radio. I like Marc's powerful introduction on the album version.
