i love, love crowded house. i was a free and easy loving 20 something year old the first time i heard crowded house circa 1987...they are STILL amazing. i was really into the music scene and they were HOT in virginia beach during that time...
Speaking on behalf of my 14-year-old self who decided she could never marry anyone unless it was Neil Finn (and trust me, there has been more than a few decades since then), I WOULD HIT THAT SO HARD I WOULD END UP IN CHINA. (Or, preferably Auckland at the very least.)
In a perfect world we would see bands like this again emerge on the scene and slay the absolute crap that the 12-24 year old music purchasers sadly get crammed down their throats by what remains of the music industry and record labels! Geniuses like Neil Finn and other classic songwriters are a vanished breed and it makes me sad. Nobody is in it for the long haul any more.
@DeeCeeCT i feel the same way about music today. the crap the gets on the air is nothing but just that... crap. and yet CH got basically no airplay in the U.S. UGH!! pisses me off!!
i'd love to know who the girl in the red dress is, the one who hands Neil his guitar... boy howdy, would i have liked to have been that girl! LOL wonder where she is now, and what she still thinks of CH and her part in the video.
One of my favorite Crowded House songs, "I don't know where you go; do you climb into space, to the world where you live?"... someone we encounter everyday!
I think the reason most bands sound the same nowdays is because every band has the same people writing their songs for them. 20 or 30 years ago every band sounded so different because all their songs were written by the members themselves. Seriously, at the very least, give Bieber a better songwriter than the guy he has now and he won't be as bad.
I remember this song,,,classic!! great video too, lil subtle things, like the shaky "house" that's seems "crowded, Paul Hester having to stand up and play his drums, the 40s retro dance scence make it remarkable
Finally saw them tonight after waiting SO many years to catch a show. It was a great time and I am now convinced that I must pick up some of their newer stuff.
Saw them last night under the moon and stars at the Edgefield in Portland OR. Superb show. As good as it gets. Transcendant, best band ever. They are so good live, it is incredible. Superlative.
I'm not exaggerating when I say that these guys changed my life with their music...It was like someone opened a window and let in the sunshine and fresh air musically. Simply timeless! Thank you Crowded House! :-)
they changed my life too, and recently. i remember them back in H.S. in the mid-80s, but they didn't get much airplay here in the states, so i didn't know to much of their music til several years ago, to this day, i start my day out with "Weather With You"; it always makes me happy!
i'm still working on that Neil Finn hairstyle. i keep mine short and i've almost got it down! LOL all i need are the highlights, and a tiny bit more length and the callick! :-)
you are definitely not alone. Neil is incredibly sexy still, but that li'l grin when he sings "expert in bed" is adorable! not sure what year this came out, but i was 11 y.o. when i first saw him in Split Enz in 1979, and fell hard in love with his music and his sweet face! LOL
these handpainted costumes were stolen in NYC! I heard the rumor and asked them DIRECTLY on a phone interview on live radio in about 85!! They confirmed it, and were amazed that I'd even heard about it. CH rules.
@Santanico75 Yea but now (Here's my saying) All you need these days to become a star in is a crappy voice and an autotune machine and your away! But there some good rock bands still here today.
Beautiful tune. You know you're a great songwriter when you can write a catchy pop tune where practically none of the lyrics rhyme (listen again). Neil Finn is pure genius.
Wow... I can remember blasting down the highway in 1986 going to the beach with my ex-wife (God rest her soul) who was my girlfriend back then, listening to this! Great memories of a simpler time...
OK, so the song flopped in the US after they hit big with "Don't Dream It's Over" and "Something So Strong", but this has always been my favourite song by Crowded House to this day.
Ha ha ha....next you will claim the All Blacks as being a Good Aussie team as Brad Thorne is from Brisbane and the guy who washes their kit is from Sydney. Look at the map mate, is that a map of Australia?? Strangely no it is not :)
I just saw this for the first time yesterday on VH-1 classic. My first impression was that Neil's eyes looked kind of puffy, like he might have been sick, or maybe he had a late night before the video shoot. Nonetheless, CH were so very good and they always seemed happy.

Um, sorry, this is a "debate". That means point, counterpoint -- not point, utter surrender. Neil, like Sam and Russell and Tim, is only one of many fine artists to come from our great land.

yeah i looove 80s music too but some of todays music is awesome too like eskimo joe etc......but i just dont get how everyone these days likes all that crap rnb hiphop rap crap! its insane!!!
Yeah me too on the rap music. I like old school rap myself. Like Run DMC, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Peppa some of those artists. But 80's music and 90's music is the stuff i love to listen to.
best band ever. has anyone else noticed the line in mean to me and the video clip? paul pretended to shoot himself. why? he is so missed, i really wanted to see them here in bris vegas but i can't so i'm so upset. this is a very good song, i wonder what neil was feeling when he wrote this song...
Ohhhhh I get yaaaa....u mean in the song Mean To Me lol I thought u meant the line mean to me int hsi song...i was tryin to think when that was lol.....
omg i want that girl's dress! im gonna steal that crazy girl's dress for my ball...the white one with the black shoes...but make it longer...awesome or what?!
If "Swifty" reads this message thread, please get in touch.
A bit of a reminder:
I almost had a wreck when I was driving down the street after I saw you. After I parked you had your friend come up to me and tell me that you wanted to meet me. My sister sat down next to you and I told my sister that she had my seat. We were friends after that. Last time I talked to you was when I lived in Glenview and Rich Lockland was on tour.
old hippie here.......neil finn and his boy's always did the job.........crowded house or split enz.........this music is for the ages.......it set the tone for those days......simply awsome.
Ah, another one of my "crush" songs.

Don't like this. Most of the first CH album sounds dreary and dated. Finn should have known better. Temple of Low Men is best.

Saw them live in Calgary last night, it was one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. Crowded House rocks!

yeah i looove 80s music too but some of todays music is awesome too like eskimo joe etc......but i just dont get how everyone these days likes all that crap rnb hiphop rap crap! its insane!!!

Yeah me too on the rap music. I like old school rap myself. Like Run DMC, Queen Latifah, Salt-N-Peppa some of those artists. But 80's music and 90's music is the stuff i love to listen to.
