I own myself - I own my labor - I own the fruit of my labor - By the means that I am not anything more than the murdered. I am no more alive, I am no more of a being. We are all alive, and thus, we are all equal in that sense. Who am I to say what will live and what will die? Since I am no more, and certainly no less, I have absolutely no right, and neither does anybody else, to alter someone else's state of being - Gov`t is the illusion of authority, a disease masquerading as its own cure.
Neo-Cons co-opted the Tea Party. Come out and see what the Occupy Wall Street protests are all about; they may lean a little left, but they are dead-set against being co-opted and are willing to hear out Libertarians.
@anonwoohoo I'm not so sure about that. Videos I have seen taken at OWS protests shows supporters being quite anti-libertarian. Though those are just video clips.
@WeirdCrazyShortGuy Well, then you should look at more videos :) Do a search for "incredible speech by wall street protester" here on youtube and watch the first video result. You will see that this young gentleman is rather libertarian, following the tradition of fiscal conservatism that you would expect from Ludwig Von Mises or other Austrian economists who champion the free market.
I do understand that many of the OWS people promote socialism, but it is in fact a populist movement.
@anonwoohoo OK, I'll make sure to check it out. I actually have mixed feelings about the occupy movement the same way I have mixed feelings about the tea party.
I love how everyone is quick to say how republicans or conservatives are so evil for wanting big government, which is true, but democrats and liberals function in the exact same manner.
Isn't it funny that TP members want a "smaller Constitutional government" yet almost all of them won't consider ending these UnConstitutional wars? Once again it seems the Constitution has "limited" meaning.
A little history: the original Boston Tea Party in the 1700s was a libertarian protest against British tarifs (protectionist taxes, like Obama's Buy American). Today's tea party practically runs under the motto "do whatever you want so long as I like you and I will blow your money on NASA and wars with shitty little Middle East countries. YEE-HAW!"
I'm going to say something controversial. I don't want it to be seen as belittling the pain of others, or diminishing the horrific amount of life lost on 9/11...but...
...3,000 people dies on 9/11. That was ONCE 10 years ago. That's 300 people a year dying of terrorism...and only a risk factor if you're in a major metropolis or in an airport/plane.
4,000 people die a year in the U.S. in house fires.
If we had a 9/11 every year, you sleeping in your house is a bigger risk of death.
@AresCassell The neocons get funded by the defense industry and the Israel lobby, this gives them a huge advantage and is why they have been able to hijack the Republican party for 60+ years.
@esc1127 I think it is up to libertarians and paleoconservatives to take a stand. Neocons are really just socially conservative democrats and have basically destroyed the republican party (as well as the govt as a whole).
A dumbass talking to a psychopath, and hiding behind a single issue as a defense for his hideously flawed trade and social policies...wow. BOTH these jerks need some serious medication.
This video is halarious. To anyone who thinks the tea party is made up of libertarians is wrong. just because the tea party is based on one libertarian ideal, doesnt mean they are libertarians because a majority of the rest of their agenda is largely non libertarian.
The tea party has been high-jacked by mainstream republicans looking for an opportunity to garner votes while hiding under the disguise of conservative. No longer can we trust that someone who claims to be a "tea party" candidate truly understands or supports the constitution. Gotta do more homework than ever before.
I don't see how anyone can enjoy these kinds of videos. Boooring. Libertarians aren't doing themselves any favors by promoting this kind of material. Very few tea party candidates actually won the elections. The ones that did such as Rubio and Paul have actually been against raising the debt cap. Although imperfect, the tea party movement, in general, has been very critical of those elected republicans for not cutting spending enough.
@wscanlon424 I'm sick of people getting the two confused. Libertarians did START the TP, but the minute it was leached to by a bunch of faux angry neo-cons (some obviously racist) the ORIGINAL CREATORS (Libertarians) jumped ship and abandoned the group w/o looking back. Afterwhich, NEO-CON CORPORATISTS (i.e., the Kochroaches) became they're sole financial backers. Since then they've been used as a fake revolution by MSM. Libertarians can't stand the Talibaggres, thus this spoof vid.
@Spunkalunk You are correct sir. However, I for one will stand and fight the media and the neo-cons. The new media "Tea Party" candidate is Herman Cain, a Former Fed Bank Chairmen and supporter of TARP, the very things that were the impetus for the creation of the movement. Stand, fight, and educate, don't jump ship.
@Spunkalunk While I am not a libertarian, it is the most attractive ideology to me on "the right." As a democratic socialist that rejects mainstream liberalism and reject Leninism, we do so under principle and try to work toward justice that is in conjunction with liberty (or that's the way I see it). If only the libertarians can embrace socialized medicine, I would embrace the libertarian viewpoint right away. Almost all else advocated by the libertarians is positive...
@Spunkalunk I never made claims that Ron Paul is a "left-libertarian." While I respectfully disagree with him (as most libertarians) on some critical issues, most libertarians seems consistent in what they believe in. And it would be the ideology for me on "the right" if I ever gave up on socialism. Even my "liberalism on social issues" (although I do not classify myself as a liberal) today is basically focused on "libertarian" principles if that makes any sense.
@PsychoPunk1965 Actually it does, I've only recently started using the label "left-libertarian" the prior popular term was an oxymoron of sorts "Socialist-Libertarian".
@wscanlon424 Oh and if you see a Talibagger (religious zealot pro-lifer but pro-war neo-con) please tell them to return the Gadsen Flag to the party they borrowed it from. Also the costumes are hilarious as their misdirection.
@wscanlon424 - no offense, but Libertarians are NOT the Tea Party.... the tea party holds some of what we believe, but the tea party folks are also very influenced by the neocon republicans.
@shawnd1874 Libertarians hold over 600 elected positions, more than all 3rd parties combined. Libertarians started the tea party. In the last election, and your comment is only 1 month old so you should know this, most republicans were ushered in by tea parties, and they are now giving the establishment republicans hell.

The Tea Party never had much cred as a libertarian movement because it was silent during Bush's eight year reign of terror.

@trilobright
The modern day Tea Party was started in '07 by Dr. Paul and his supporters in responce to all of the spending and wars by Bush.
There was even a 35-40% democratic base at the first few rallies.
The first real rally was held on Dec. 16, 2007 on the anniversary of the Boston Tea Party of 1773. video proof=> watch?v=6bNiDx7qTjA
