  • so, your pot odds are 400 to 100.. you need 20% to win, you have 20%... in the pot is already, lets say 100 of your stack. You play that game 5 times. 1 time, you win the pot and you'll win 500. 4 times, you'll lose and you'll lose the 200. so you'll lose 800 and you'll win 500 => you lose 300! plz correct me where i'm wrong cause i know i'm wrong but i don't know where

if you say: i win 500 1 time and lose 100 4 times so i win, you forget that you already placed a bet cause there is a pot

  • @Pomonoli

1 time you wcall $100 and you win $500, 4 times you will lose and lose $400 total.

  • @josunjosun that's exactly what i said that you should not have said.. you have already 100 in the pot so you'll lose 200 4 times => 300 lost

  • so why do you need to know your odds (e.g 4:1) since your basing your calling or folding desicion on the % you need to win by your call and what it represents in the pot ?

  • lol

  • @catdran0091

Rofl.. can we play tomorrow my FTP ID = canobe6631 =D

  • you can't play odds when playing poker or you will lose all your chips.

    poker is about luck.

if you get the two best players in the world to play eachother, the luckier one will win.

and a non pro will beat a pro if he is lucky enough.

  • @amen77787 i doesn't just take luck to win in poker, even though luck plays a big part someone who knows the odds will win a good amount of the time

  • @amen77787 LOL!!! You obviously don't play poker!!! Roulette is chance, poker is skill. There is a lot more to it than luck!!! The skill comes in knowing what hands to play, and what hands to fold relative to your position. A pro would always beat an amateur in the long run by making better decisions! Why do you thin the same top players in the world are always at the final table??? OR how do some players make millions online??? It's not because of luck!

  • @wordsofwisdom2009 i used to think that too, but i play alot of tourneys on line and at the table, and when there is just two players left. it all comes down to who is luckier and gets the right cards. yes you need skill to get to the final table but to win the tourney you got to have luck.

  • @wordsofwisdom2009 Ok rounders is a movie. Second the same people are not at the final table every year. It is a suprise to see one person make the final table two years in a row. Usually the final table is all amateurs that got lucky.

  • @PBRMafia The final table is changing thanks largely to the boom in poker due largely to it's ease of access online and the fact that there are many many more seats at the major tournaments, however, you will still see the same faces near the top AND Doyle Brunson won the WSOP two consecutive years in a row! Phil Helmuth has won the WSOP 11 times! ...oh, I guess he was just lucky... yeah right!

  • @wordsofwisdom2009 Doyle Brunson won when only like 200 people played in it. The wsop didnt take off until moneymaker won. And neither brunson nor hellmuth made the money this year. Also hellmuth has won the main even only one time,he has 11 other bracelets from other events,he has 12 total bracelets. To get through 7300 people you need luck on your side.

  • Thank you. Plain, clear, simple, informative and valuable.

  • OMG this is way easier to understad thank you so much!!!

  • can someone please explain why you multiply by 4 and then 2 to give you a percentage ??

  • I don't get something. Having 50% chance to improve your hand doesn't mean you have 50% chance of winning that hand. Somebody explain plz?

  • It is supposed that you "know" you will win if you improve.

Sometimes it is easy to understand that if you get a straight and there are not possible flush or full house you win for sore.

Other times you have to take in mind your opponents "range" but this is another subject for a video....

  • Very usefull!

  • WOAH great video. but each card is worth roughly more than 2% post flop so actually what ever you calculate is a bit less than your pot odds

  • Does anyone know a shortcut to calculating the pot odds? When playing online, it's easier because the running total of the pot is provided. In a live game, the pot can grow quickly and it's hard to keep track of the amount "in the pot" to be able to quickly calculate odds. Plus, with all these even numbered examples, it's much easier. This video is EXCELLENT...just curious if anyone knows a shortcut or if we can round up by quickly assessing what the pot looks to be worth. Many thanks!

  • I'm not so sure about any shortcuts but what's mentioned here, like 4 and 2 rule in this video, are pretty quick to do. When playing live it's easy if no-one raises, just count number of bettors and multiply by the big blind value to find pot total. Like everything else practice makes perfect. GL

  • For me i find it quicker to just think of pot odds as fractions eg. if there is $300 in pot, opponent bets $100 to call i have to put in $100 making a total of $500; therefore i have to put in 1/5 of the $500 which is equivalent to 20%.

  • if your playing limit this is well done. if your a no limit player, i hate to help the fish, but pot odds dont mean anything in no limit. no limit you think implied odds. or what your opponent is laying you to win his money. therefore, if i have $1000, and the pot is 150, i bet out 150, i am laying you approximately 6.5:1 on my money. think about it.

  • @thejaydoh that would be true except when I flat call you I suspect you are bright enough to know not to shove the turn. Therefore the implied odds may well be way off the mark. Of course if you are shoving no matter what then it is more attractive.

  • ....I spent like 2 days trying to understand this in The Theory of Poker, and it took about 5 minutes here.

  • info: if ur wondering if these calculations are the same for heads-up, 6 handed game or a ring game, let me safe you some time: They are! Why? because the number of players involved isnt an issue. It s all about the cards you know, which are your hole cards and the cards on the flop and/or the turn. It could be that you have less outs than you calculate since other player might hold one or more of your outs. However you cant know that for certain so it isnt important in the calculations.

  • Thats exactly what i dont understand. I can understand that if you CALL the $100 bet, the pot would be $500, and therefore 5:1 or 20%. But why use the extra first step(4:1)??

  • why does 4 to 1 turns into 1/5, 20%?

isn't 4 to 1 means out of 4 hands the odds of winning is 1 time?

  • You also need to count your own money this time

    1/1+4 that means 1/5*100=20%

  • TY FOR REAL ITS NICE you can understand easily

  • on the turn u can multiply by 2 and add 1 also

  • Aladiniz, if an eight comes up, he doesent have straight

  • 4567 there are 4 cards. You need 5 :D

  • There is no 4 on the board after the first step.

  • hahaha...

  • WOW you explain the best NOW i get everything

  • Multiplying by 4 only works if it is an all-in call. Otherwise if the fist card is not good for you then the guy will bet again and odds will not be in your favour. That's why multiplying by 4 is usually wrong because putting money does not mean that you will have 2 free cards but only one.

  • AA KK QQ AK

  • Once I learned this stuff my game improved. It's a must know if want to start taking down some pots. The only problem is that I'm not a math wiz and trying to keep track of whats happening at the table and counting this stuff on the fly. I'm siure it will get easier the more I play. Been playing for about a year and a half. Good luck everybody!

  • to make more clear what he said at the end..if your "out" % is higher than ur pot odd%..then u should call and vice versa

  • For those who don't get the pot odds part:

    400 in the pot

    100 to call

therefore you have 500 total in the pot

so of the 500 in the pot, you have contributed 100. Which is 20%.

    100/500 = 20%

  • This is a greatly informative video. Beats reading pages about this stuff on those poker websites.

  • there are 3 types of player those that can count and those that cant.

  • lol :D

  • reminds me of a joke a friend of mine used to tell

there are 10 kinds of people, those that know binary and those that don't

  • Yeah, he probably got this from simon singh's website. Its so great because so many people don't understand it. Ive got this quote as a signiture on a forum.

  • ahhhh...you mean 2 types of players?

  • @tubemoood ... and who is the 3rd type?

  • @MrTBSC he was joking there, he was the type that cant count by saying "3"...

  • @wanga0118 ... there also other 2 types: those who are observant and those who are not ...

    ... now were was i ??? ...

  • Phil Gordon, his a good player.

  • en dan noem je mij een nerd..?

  • what video is this from?

  • i don't get the pot thingie :(

  • nice thx for the upload
