I got the book...by Leon cooper "War in The Pacific". He makes valid claims that put alot of questions i had of the pacific war to rest. I hope they do put a memorial for TARAWA.

Have you ever thought about going to the USS Arizona Memorial to petition for support? I am sure that would generate great efforts also by the Japanese veterans. I think at this point in our histories the memorials are shared jointly. Good luck.

Wow. I studied Tarawa on Google Earth looking for evidence of bunkers, gun posns etc. It appears to be on giant developed condo resort area now. You would think the wealthy owners there would show respect and clean up the mess themselves. Very sad the local island authority/government is not handling the cleanup.

Is there anything someone can do to help this cause? My Papa's 'alligator' was blown out and he was the only survivor. It's terrible that such sacred ground is a garbage dump?
