I always thought Ashley Riot looked like a Japanese Brandon Fraser. It's one of those weird resemblances like Will Smith in Resident Evil 2. The PS1 was amazing :D
Finnaly I found the game I was looking for. My brother and I had a hard time beating this game, not sure if we ever beat it though, but I always died when it came to that ghost who was immune to my attacks.
2)The sound when u play VagrantStory on TV absolutely BLOWS U AWAY and makes u feel like WHOA O_O from how awesome it is. Composer of sound was very impresed fro mdedication and carefullnes with which devs made game and was very carefull at creating fitting sound. Its epic and dark and full of mistery like as if its Batman moovie but original and perfectly fitting.
3)Graphs are uber for PSone and chars have not jsut faces and mimics they have moods on faces readable
This game is simply enormous. Should Sony release a sequel for ps3, they would sell more copies than god of war and heavy rain together. I can see the influence of this game on final fantasy XIII, by the way.
@stonerdemon It is coming out shortly as a PSOne Classic. They're releasing Xenogears on Feb 22nd 2011 and Squeenix said they were gonna do Vagrant Story too!
Just saw the date of your comment... oh well, information is information.
@Kirzan66 I bought a psx two months ago, just to have the chance to play these games again, with a controller, the old way. but this concole cannot read disks copied at 4x or more!! i need to fix my old pc! i wanna burn at 2x :(
Superb game I really like 1:02 to 2:52 I got this game online for my ps3 for free at 115 games. com There is a load of playstation 3 games available and they are all totally free too rad game and website
Loved the game and the main character...well also his haircut and first name were a bit strange....Ashley??? thats not a man`s name! and what are the two antennas on his head?
it is a man's name in some parts of the world. I know a man named Ashley from the UK, for example. I think some people named Ashley tend to go by the name Ash though.
the first time I played this, I unwittingly prompted through the dialogue at such a rate, that the footstep in the puddle matched exactly the first big drum beat, and the rest of the music matched perfectly to the actions on screen, anyone else done this?
At several points in the game, the music goes into short loops of subtle music, awaiting your button press to advance the dialogue/action. When you do so, the loop either plays one last complete measure, or finishes the current measure, before throwing in the musical swell, which is intended to match the pre-rendedred cutscene.
come on, akihiko yoshida's kinky outfit design really adds something. he seems to concentrate on characters that are almost fully clothed but with small parts of flesh showing. you can see this trait in FFXII too, with Fran and the girl with the pink little skirt.
THE best opening to a game ever. Drops you right into the middle of things and even gives you an opportunity to learn the battle system before events proper begin. Also features probably the greatest orchestral work ever composed by Sakimoto; even his scores for FF XII and FFT don't compare to this one track.
For those interested, it's called "Climax of the Grayland Incident". It's almost 12 minutes long, and it owns you. HARD.
I used Plextor ConvertX capture device to get the s-video signal coming from PS2. I would used original Playstation but unfortunately it was manufactured by Sony (==cd-drive is nearly busted).
I`ve never heard of an Iocus priesthood in any European country. or even a Kingdom of Valendia, in a land called Ivalice, for that matter. FFT and FFXII were set in Ivalice though
I completed this game and it has one of the most complex stories in a game, EVER!!!
It also has the best music which so perfectly fits the games atmosphere, too bad they did'nt make a sequel. The game really should have had less wandering around in deserted towns or catacombs and more encounters with the main characters. The ending with sydney was a bit confusing (was he the Duke's son??? or someone else?)
one of the most fucking beautiful games eveer made, and so damn underrated, thanks to all fucking idiots who dont appreciate good works of art, back in the day, this was my favorite game, so sad they dropped the project and didnt do a sequel..long live VS
Reason why people did not like it was that it was a hard game to get into. At first it seem slow, clunky and confusing. Oh, and that inventory system, thanks to it you'll have to discard every other item you found.
But in the end, if you put time on this, you'll discover what great game it is.
I would love to see an HD remake of this game.

you guys do realize that this is being run on an emulator, so this isn't exactly what it looks like on a real playstation, right?

No, it is not played on emulator. I played this (like all my ps1, ps2, gc etc. videos) on real hardware from real disc.

The greatest game in my opinion.
And I have played more games than you could imagine.
Calling this game a work of art is the biggest understatement a veteran gamer could make.
I guess you have to like RPGs to find the beauty in it.
