  • AWESOMENESS

  • I think it would be cool to have a backing track. Bass usually has a warm sound that tends to ring out. I love shred bass too, but it needs to be accompanied by percussion. By the way, your band made some quantum leaps since it started.

  • oh yeah look how fast I can play... this has nothing to do with music anymore... so sad

  • @whathastobesaid have you heard any of there other music? you fucking idiot!! this is an Instructional SHRED bass dvd!! key word shred you fuck tard!

  • @TheJtcano Don't rise to the bait... it's the same on all of these videos, some people suffer from tunnel vision, they are the ones who are going to be stuck in pentatonic boxes for the rest of their lives, thinking that all innovation and progress stopped in the 80's...quite untrue.

  • @TheJtcano

hahaha lol learn some english before you try to insult me kiddy ;-)

  • I feel honored to have personally known such talented musicians for almost 20 years

  • @JDnCoke1992 i think you need to adjust the truss rod, if its in tune and the strings are too tight that means there is too much of a bow in the neck, also you will have to check the intonation so that all notes on the fretboard will be perfectly in tune! get a video on YT to show you how to do this! it aint hard!

  • Oh god... what bass is that? It's beautiful *_*

  • Dude your awesome! Check out my shredn vids.

  • thats it.... i quit playing bass XD

  • Sounds great man, great tone, sounds almost like a synth.

  • Guys, where can I get the full version of this video?

  • One Word: Amazing.

  • Troy, I'm hoping for a full recovery, you rock!!!

  • I heard Troy suffered some sort of injury... anyone got any details?

    Hope it's nothing serious.

  • @DMarc2005 Yeah, i think hes fine now though.

  • Nicely executed. Do you also play a six-string? TY for posting. Oh, also how do you set your action and pickups up so all the sounds are picked up and amplified evenly? I know part of it is playability of the instrument, but part is also technique. What kind of pickups / gear do you recommend? Thanks!

  • Nicely executed. Do you also play a six-string? TY for posting.

  • ahahahahahah Top class Man!!!!

  • WAYNE'S WORLD! PARTY TIME! EXCELLENT!

  • nevermind.

I found the body design on Google.

Manne guitars & basses...handmade in Italy.

  • @christinagrim, where'd you get this video of Troy Tipton?

I'd like to know what that bass is.

  • Sup with the comments saying "shred on bass = guitar wannabe"?

Really? Grow up. Thats like saying if you play altissimo on your tenor sax that you might as well just play alto or soprano sax because they're "for playing higher" O_o

  • he isn't a bass player, he is a classical guitarist! AWESOME MAN!

  • Awesome skills. Comparing to guitar shred, it requires coordination between R&L hand. You bass shredding technique relies on R&L hand tapping to generates sound. Very efficient. The only down side is tapping sounds a little bit off when mixed up with open strings.

  • hard as shit and amazing technically but it sounds like complete shit. bass isn't meant for shredding

  • @GorgonTheMagicMan sorry dude but this guy is way better than myung... i think the most difficult thing to do in a bass its to make it sound good... and myung sounds weak... also the same thing happens with mike lepond, but lepond has to much creativity, myung only do the same thing that petrucci, but on the bass xD, and thomas miller will always be the symphony x bass man, he has the perfect sound for symphony x...

this arpegios... sounds right and its says on the title bass shred, so not music

  • @MsanchezS333 If you search Free Port Jam on youtube, Myung really shows his abilities there.

  • great my friend very great!!!!!!!

  • what bass is that, its sexy

  • listen to Tendonitis by Zero Hour and you'll faint. Fuckin fast ass bass.

  • sounds retarded, go play it on guitar

  • @iChugCoffee

    ignorant

  • nice, sounds trippy

  • nice playing,but i dont like it.

  • kewl, he plays guitar on a bass..

  • insane...

  • This guy is supposed to be better than John Myung and Michael LePond? Sorry but in my opinion the notes a bass player doesn't play are just as important as the notes he does play, I have seen Myung do things like this, but I'm not saying anything about this guy in a negative way because I cannot do this on bass

  • As in, musically, technically, he is better. Just because you like someone else better, doesn't mean they ARE better, it means YOU like them better. People really need to learn that some day.

  • thats fucking insane¡¡ i am practicing this yecnique and its so hard ¡¡¡¡ he make it seem easy¡¡ good job

  • damn that's clean..

  • FUCK :O

  • This is pretty insane

  • i'm speechless.

  • what bass is that? the headstock reminds me of Carvin

  • Manne

  • I'm not sure but i'm pretty sure its custom because jasun (his brother) has a guitar just like it.

  • sweet, but everybody has to understand, HES TAPPIN, and its not as har as it looks, if you dont have your plucking hand trying to keep up with arpeggios their actually really simple

  • Comment removed

  • Only tapping one note on each arpeggio.

  • DAMMIT!! I FUCKIN' WANT YOUR SKILLS!! *intense jealousy*

  • Dope!!! Those sweeps sound phenomenal at that speed!!

  • are you on drugs?

  • If he is, and plays like that, I'd be on drugs 24/7

  • get out of the 70's dude

  • why should he? 60's-80's & some 90's OWN.

  • INCROYABLE !!!! I can't play that !

  • Just amazing tapping on the finger borad there my firend. You are a very good bass player. Keep up the good work.

  • If he used distortion it would sound a little better.

    It sounds a bit weird.

Still great for bass (6 String?)

    I only have a 4 string.

  • If you want a distorted sound use a guitar, it sounds fine...

  • count the tuning machines.....thats 5.not that hard

  • Yeah It Would, And Its Not a 6, Its A 5 String

  • Comment removed

  • HOT

  • He looks so bored.

  • nice arpeggios, very clean :-)

  • pretty fun to play

  • Wow, this is intense...

  • so hows your reading?

  • that is a cool bass what brand is that

  • sounded better slowed down lol

  • you're gay

  • He does on bass what no one can do on guitar! Aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!

  • less talking more bass

  • JESES CHRIST! Broodle bass player!

  • saw them in hannover, really nice guys all of them and technically perfect. bought 2 of their cds i didnt regret that. they really can combine great technique and good songwriting, reminds me of nevermore.

  • Zero Hour is a fantastic band.

  • You know, bands CAN combine musicality AND technique you know.

And Zero Hour does. Some bands do do just technique, but most of the good ones know how to combine both.

  • nah, nah this actually kicks ass you suck. u suck cock for coke

  • @StupidPeopleProd Oy! (although I seriously doubt the other commenter inserts random male organs into his masticating orifice just for a little cocaine) ;-.P

  • coffeeintheface is right, however i would like to add that some people appreciate musical technicality and theres nothing wrong with that either. If you don't like to admire someones hard work gaining skill at an instrument then dont, you can go listen to slow emo crap if you like listening to people who can't play their instruments...wait...emo's aren't people.....whatever...

  • @springheeljack0 are you saying all slow music is emo? How bout the blues/? emotion is just as important as tech.

  • in fact,it's only technique, GENIUS

  • FUK YEAH TROY! DEATH MACHINE! I will break a chair in your honor - KEN!

  • To each his own.

  • this guy is my hero

  • Oh. My. God. HAX.

  • It would be cool if there was a chihuahua Blllluuuuurrrrriiiillluuupppe

  • bluurrrriiiuubbbbpppp

    bluurrrriiiuubbbbpppp

lol, this is like Rusty Cooley on bass :D

  • u live with your mom,jit.

  • ummm...so......ummm .....whats for dinner?

  • ha!good one

  • FUCKING INSANE!!!! give herman li a run for his money, and yngwie i love that shit make some more videos and tab it out so i can play it on the six string please

  • he remember me the solo of Sea of lies.

I had never knew the sweep tapping can be played on bass o_O , i should put my bass on a thrash an get an harmonica :D

  • Thanks for this video, it's clear, and these arpeggios are very cool to play! I got to go practice now :P

  • thats sic.....so fluent and clean......i can do that..... it just sounds as messy as hell....lol

  • WOW! Nice and fast.

  • The guy's got skills, but it sounds kind of annoying. Just MO

  • Lol bass sweep.

  • That's awesome mechanically speaking. I'd like to hear what your recordings sound like so I can review you guys.

  • Tab it please much thank you awsome video

  • That is crazy

  • im not impressed

  • nice bass!!!

  • haha this is ridiculous

  • you should do a project with Rusty Cooley.

  • Dude u r sick! Im the guitarist in ur student matts band

  • tht is isick good thing he is my bass teacher

  • cool u can play bass but dont talk it kind of gay staffs u talking about ( this is from the 60´s...)

  • you might of heard of me i jason pierpont hi

remember you sighed a thing and you know Rick Pierpont

  • Its impressive but boring. Skills like that should be used to good effect rather than just to show off which sounds terrible to be frank.

Very cleanly played though, amazing playing. Just boring really.

  • He definitely can use his skills to good effect, you should just check out his work in Zero Hour or his brother Jasun's solo jazz CD Seduction. Don't write him off as just a bass shredder, he's an awesome musician.

  • I will do, I guess I was a bit closed minded as this was a tutorial to show off technique anyway.

Thats for giving me sources to go on, will give a listen soon!

  • He is using this as a way to teach techniques not as a piece of music so much

  • boring? boring? what the fuck that was friking awesome skrew u

  • try to understand the diference between a performer and a musician lol

  • this pretty much inspired me to switch from guitar to six string bass all the way. I was afraid I would loose my ability to shred but apparently not.

  • well, he has a 5 string bass, you can shred with 4 if you want

  • i saw that, but i want 6.

  • whats the exact name of this dvd?

  • your username suits you

  • yeah, the number of strings don't matter, besides, they make 6 string basses

  • this song makes me feel like im drowning in jello. good job!

  • omg. dude. that is exactly it. drowning in jello!

  • Haha true xD

  • is he using his fifth string?

  • The Bass world change... in better!

  • dude ur rippin it!!!

  • Are you using only 4 strings E to G?

CAuse id love to try this and not have to worry about playing the Same note on B or changing the Key even though im sure I could just play any arpeggio

  • i love the sound sounds magical slowed down :P

  • It sounds like a squencer, not a bass.

  • i kinda agree, it looks cool an all, but how will it fit in a real song?-its too inconsistent but a something cool to learn

  • It takes a little skill to play this, . . but gets boring fast.

  • @ ozzyscapegoat- not being a bass player, but a rythem guitarist. I think these "lessons" are sort of-little accents to use within a song. I have a feeling you may only listen to straight-foward metal. Try exploring Prog Metal bands, they can be VERY Technical, to atmospheric, Shred, to VERY melodic. Thats the thing about Prog and Prog Metal, there are no bounderies. Just search for "prog metal" in the search bar, you'll see TONS of bands u never heard fo :) -MAVIII(progulus. c o m) Prog On! \m/

  • thank you. not a lot of people get that. oh yeah and fuck 4/4 tablature to the bands who only use that.

  • LOL . . thank you dimmer . . which should be brigther . . A real bass player know his part . . sound incredible without trying to impress "kids" lmao

  • well not really sweeps, awesome arpeggios more like it,5*

  • Awesome sweeps dude

  • sorry dude, no one who has a faggy couch like that belongs in a band called "Death Machine".

  • lmao "Death Machine"...He says it as if he's cool... this guy's lame

  • LOL .. but the kiddies love it!

  • i incorporate arpeggios into my bass playing, and i cant stand playing guitar (on occasion i get into it), i also use distortion at times. are you meaning to say cliff burton wasn't a true bass hero because he didn't follow bass traditions. hands down i think bass sounds better then guitar, tapping, sweeping, distorted, palm muting, slapping, just eq it right. your saying les claypool isnt a great bassist because he definatly doesnt play in the background? open up a little huh

  • Of course there are some very clever and entertaining bass players like les claypool, but the vast majority of bass players playing the bass like they're a rock guitar player, they are just awful and annoying.

  • That would be the bass players in the bands that follow the guitar and root every damn chord.

  • dude that sounds badass

  • great...good work!

  • 6 string bass?? why?! lol, anything above 5 strings is just a big gay guitar in my opinion, still cool stuff though.

  • you have a big gay opinion

  • lmao, i love open mindedness on youtube!

  • it's not the same as a guitar. for the bass, the tuning is BEADGC. but for the guitar it's EADGBE

  • right because REAL basses only have 4 strings. thats the ONLY option for a bass guitar. youre an asshole. its just an instrument. more strings means more range. think about it.

  • Think about this:

What is the purspose of the bass?

Having one guitar player in a band is annoying enough as it is.

Having a "bass player" who doesn't want to play bass but wants to be a guitarist, is even more annoying.

    Bottom Line:

THE BEST BASS PLAYERS SHINE IN THE BACKGROUND.

This isn't bass playing and it does not impress me at all. I hate tapping guitar players . . it is not real guitar playing.

  • the purpose of having the extra strings is to increase the range of the instrument. apparently you have a problem with anyone who plays bass that does more than provide the bottom end of the sound. what about players like victor wooten or les claypool who play music where the bass is more prominent than the guitar?

  • ...totally agree with you....

  • lol . . thanks, this playing is designed to impress kids only.

  • way to think outside the box.

no musician ever got recognized in their field by doing what they were supposed to. all the greatest musicians are the ones who have done something new that was against tradition.

The way you're thinking, you will never be able to have a lasting effect.

Now I'm not saying you need a six string to be great. I'm just saying, you shouldn't try and recreate what those before you did, and you should never think as if music has rules, because MUSIC HAS NO RULES!

  • hobble, I would shake your hand if digital monitors could provide the medium. well said, anyways. =]

  • I agree 100% with "MUSIC HAS NO RULES!"

    but . . . .

I has to follow this rule "IT MUST SOUND GOOD"

  • w3rd

  • this is a response to an older comment.... what the fuck are you on about, saying "hate tapping guitar players . . it is not real guitar playing." Like to see you match sombody like stanley jordan. Actually, go look him up now and tell me hes not playing "Real guitar". tell me its not music

  • Stanley Jorden I first heard back in 82' I think. I'm talking about most rock tapping.

And I think van halen is lame.

  • do you mean the i-finger tapping only, or do you mean all. because tapping is a handy way to link 2 parts together, or move down he neck quickly

  • that, gary, is bullshit. anything above 4 strings is a bass with more than 4 strings. I play a 5 stringer, mainly so that I have another octave of notes to utilize. it all depends on the bassist man.

in reality, you sir, are the douchebag. hate to break it to ya.

  • >> I play a 5 stringer . .

lol, another "bass player" who wishes he could play guitar instead.

Ok, I'll refresh your memory again:

A great bass player plays amazing things

    "in the background".

The extra string is not needed. When is a low

D really used any way? Sounds like mud.

And for the higher notes, they are not needed at all.

  • You, sir, are a prime example of elitism and ignorance coupled, if you know what those mean anyway.

just because I have an extra string doesn't mean I wish to play guitar as opposed to bass. it means I like having an extra string. duh. a real, great bass player has technique, skill, music theory, punctilious time keeping, open mindedness and style, in the background or out front, whichever. you, and other condemners aren't real bassists. maybe you should play guitar.

  • To gary.

You are one retarded person. Really retarded. The difference between the guitar and the bass is not how many strings it has. The real difference is the tone and pitch of it, nothing more.

  • this doesnt sound good atall :S

  • Teach how to play real bass.

When is this stuff actually useful?

John Deacon of Queen = a Real Bass Player
