@Vendingguy1961 Yea, but whenever I see one of these old TV variety show performances, I think, "what conditions were they under...in production, rehearsal, etc...let alone what the talent and producers and musicians were "on" at the time...it's kind of amazing that these things got knocked off as regularly as they did. This still fell under the heading of "real" entertainment, as opposed to the "reality" stuff and "Idol" shows that dominate prime time today.
Two great voices singing a great song in a poor arrangement, too fast, too upbeat, too forced. Listen to, and try to understand the original before butchering it like this.
Being 55, I watched all these TV shows go through their "arranged duets" of setting up people with other people to get their careers on track. This video & the one of Long Long Time were both of her day on the Glen Campbell Show in '70. I'm sure it was the furthest thing from her mind about that "dream gig"...just enjoy a VERY young Linda, after she broke free of the LA Troubadour and the confines of being labeled.
It did seem a little (forced) but still good. By the way Paul McCartney played the bass on the James Taylor recording . Taylor was an Apple artist at that time. And Glen --- nobody could touch him on guitar in his prime. Maybe on a good day Jerry Reed could keep up with him.
Re: the comments about the song being done too quickly. That's true, but I wonder if maybe the explanation might be as simple as that fact that this was performed for a TV show and they had to sqeeze the song into a very short time slot alloted for it. Most of the songs performed on these types of shows back then were either shortened or played quicker than the original in order to meet the demands of TV.
Wonder if she ever sang this with James Taylor, who wrote the song. She's performed a few of James' songs on her albums, and also did a duet on her "Get Closer" album, "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine."
Glen Campbell, one of twelve children born to a dirt-poor Scottish sharecropper in Arkansas, took up Jim Reeves’ mantle as a cross-over pop and country singer. Singing through the dreadful Vietnam years, his two haunting classics “Galveston” and “Wichita Lineman” are rightly considered among the best ballads of the century. Unusually for a male soloist, he sang extremely well with women, notably Bobby Gentry, and this duet version of “Carolina on My Mind” with Linda Ronstadt is beyond compare.
Big fan of both Linda Ronstadt and Glen Campbell here. It doesn't seem like there's a good .."chemistry" between these two. Linda doesn't look terribly enthusiastic. Perhaps she wasn't feeling well?
great singing,,,reminds me of mtv unplugged.....very few singers now days can sing without the extras...

Two of my very favorite performers of all time - wish they'd done something else.

Linda is one of only very few artists who charted on the top 40 billboard singles charts in 4 different decades

Two talented singers singing slightly to quick and off-key. Oh-well you can't be perfect in everything.

Song's done too fast. Lyrics don't get a chance to breathe. And these lyrics need to do just that.
