If there were a Federal law in the U.S. against belaboring the obvious, by now I would be well advised to be getting ready to do life under max security, or spiritually ready for the injection. Some other possibilities:"Last year in Mariebad", Fellini's "81/2" and "Juliette", Bergman's "Persona".Some of these do internal takeoffs, but you can take the deconstructing furher. Hope to live to see "Marienbad" done to hip-hop.
Looks like I don't know where to stop, but I don't see what harm it will do. Andrei Tarkovski's work is usually taken to be kinda mystical, but the visual-motivistic action in there is just tremendous. You watch his 7 films, sleep on it, your nervous system'l tell you what you want to push in their faces in your video, with what rhythm and sound. I want to spring him out of the Russian ghetto, maybe he don't need it, I am not sure.
Re: "bankspappas" above. Suggesting to artists what they should do next never really works, but I like to get myself into trouble. If you are this good transforming visual material, and you are, try doing takeoffs on the earlier Antonioni. The pervese use of color in"Red Desert" deserves a video of its own. Ditto the terrific motivistic work in "l'Eclisse", the entire b/w trilogy, and even " Il Grido" by itself.
