@sockpuppetmartinez Well, you obviously completely misunderstood what Jeff is trying to say. He's not saying that the music industry is evil, he's saying that people who bash it, including himself, are hypocrites, and that it works in the best way it possibly could under a free market economy. Your second point is completely invalid. Not every song can be about the holocaust, or human trafficking. Also, your pedantic word usage isn't impressing anybody.
And when I finally got to work today, I ate my Subway sandwich, and I drank my Coca-Cola Classic, and then I ate my Sunchips and I thought about the weekend when I'd fill up my Ford van with Mobil brand gas and drive to the Clear Channel venue and drink myself a Budweiser and play my Fender guitar through my Fender amplifier and tell the kids with a straight face through a Shure microphone and JBL speakers that corporate rock is for suckers. Uh... yeah.
COUNTER-ARGUMENT: There will always be brands, but doesn't it mean anything if we fight brand loyalty? The issue with brands or advertising isn't the core principle of giving something a name or trying to make people aware of what you want to sell, it's how people get brain washed by brands and ads. How functional the product is stops mattering, and becomes all about what kind of spin you can put on it. So let's choose functionality over presentation! That works on some level! ... Right? :(
@namvart I always felt like the song was about being a part of the capitalist machine no matter how hard you try. You can go preach the message to crowds, but you're still just another cog because everything you own and have purchased came from that. When you take a lunch break and think about how to be different, you're still just like any other Joe there. No matter what you do, you create a product, and that's exactly what keeps the machine going. Just seems like humorous self-degradation.

@sockpuppetmartinez What's so insipid and dumb about it?
urokr 11 months ago
@sockpuppetmartinez I disagree. They're 2 completely different bands. It's impossible to compare pop punk and rap-metal.

@sockpuppetmartinez fuck you dude.
