shit i have a couple of friends that have a cam, intake, 5speed and drag radials that have gone 12.80s oh and 4.10 gears thats not bad, i picked my 86 with gt40 heads, x cam, 4.30.s, and drag radials for 2800$ i would like to see a chevy thats 2800$ that would run mid 12's like my stang
can somebody on here give me an idea on how mutch power my engine is possibly making at the flywheel with this build it has a airgap manifold, comp magnum 280H cam, gt40 cast iron heads not the p heads, i have the good ones their the 3 bar f3ze cobra heads, my engine also has a compression ratio of 10.1 couse of the new pistons, and it has hooker shorty headers, that go into a hipe duel exhoust that is 2 and a half inches, the carb that is on it is a double pump holly 650, please reply people
I guess the intake? It was actually the opposite the car struggled on the top end(trick flow valvesprings FTL) it made over 300 lbs of torque from 2700-4500 rpm's so it pulled nicely down low but between the valvesprings and the explorer heads not being exactly top end friendly it would struggle a little up top, but by no means was it a dog. It was a very fun budget friendly combo :)
Nice, unless you go with a custom cam I think you will be fine with just the 1.7 rockers for now. Should be a fun ride keep me posted when you run it and get numbers.
Had a similar combo with GT40P ported, Cobra intake ported, TFS stage 1, 1.7 RR's, 30lbers, 373 gear Tremec 5 spd, LTs,OR-H, Mac Catback and. I went 7.60s N/A and 12.009 1/4 mile. Added 100 shot and went 11.20s@123mph and 6.9X
Sounds awesome, with stock gt40p heads the usual is around low 13's to mid 12's with slicks. Must of been nice running so fast with so little invested.
Yeah that would be perfect to get that car moving, with the weight and the added power I don't see that rear end lasting all that long under that car. I ran the stock rockers/pushrods/pistons on it at the time. I still have the stock shortblock(pistons, crank, rods, etc. all stock) even on the new combo. Little fords are stout when you take care of them and don't get too greedy with the power adders.
Idk, I guess I just thought that the setup would be worth a little more but I guess that those numbers are more than likely WHP. So it is more than that at the flywheel obviously. I was hoping for around 275-300 at the flywheel. I also was planning on using Explorer heads (Since you can get them for dirt cheap). Not to mention the price for the cam isn't bad either. How do you like yours?
Yeah that's at the wheels, comes out to about 320-330 to the flywheel. I like the cam a lot with those heads. Matches up nicely with the heads since the heads and cam both make good power down load and fade at around 54-5500 rpm's
Thats not bad at all to be honest. For a street car upper 5K RPM really won't be used loads anyway. That amount of horsepower in my car would make it move pretty nice. My car is an 85 Cougar XR7 so its a little heavier by a bit and a little longer but otherwise its the same thing as what you have. I think I will have to step up to an 8.8 though as all Fox Cougars have the 7.5 (XR7 got the Trac-Lok though). Are/were you still running stock rockers/pushrods/pistons as well?
im adding a set of tfs sping kit to my gt40p im also thinking of getting better intake whats a good cheap intake . i wana reach the 300 rwhp im also adding 4.10 i want to run 7.9-8.0 1/8 on my coupe
taking car to dyno. whats your guess how much rwhp.. mods are gt40p heads intake, 65tb, 73 c&L, 24lbs, msd distributor, ignition box, coil, shorty headers, black magic fan, pullys. no a/c, smog pump, cold air,1.7 roller rockers, im thinking of porting intake and maybe 75tb.
gt40p w/trickflow valvesprings, stock rockers, gt40 intake with a cleanup job on the lower, tfs stage 1 cam, mac longtubes, 24 lbs injectors and I made the most power when I turned down the fuel pressure to 34 psi.
It's pretty straightforward, the biggest problem is having space to do the swap and I would highly recommend having a donor v8 car to begin with jus so that you don't have to do any last minute shopping for little items (and there are a few). Besides that its not too bad you can find 4 cylinder bodied cars in great condition really cheap
gonna be running this identical setup this summer. exhaust and all. sounds awesome.

Gt40 p are good heads

I wouldn't let those guys touch my car. Looks like some real pros there.

Probably won't be much more if not anything, the cobra heads flowed slightly less than the gt40p's. So should be about the same range as in the vid.

jeffcougar1968 2 years ago
With this combo it was running low 13's on motor I tried to spray it but the valvesprings wouldn't handle it above 5k rpm's.

I was expecting more power...
Not bad though, I was thinking of using about the same setup on my car.

They're stock gt40p explorer heads, how much power did you expect it to make?

NoviceKilla 3 years ago
I'd say depending on the dyno, if it's a dynojet than I'd put you at 290-300 rwhp. If you're on a mustang dyno than 260-270. Let me know.
samotrx7 3 years ago
i want to add better springs for my gt40p.
NoviceKilla 3 years ago
just bought some 24lbs, cant wait to install sunday. maybe i could be around 290rwhp. was thinking about ported the heads and intake .
NoviceKilla 3 years ago
what are your exact specs, HOW much fuel presure.
NoviceKilla 3 years ago
gt40p w/trickflow valvesprings, stock rockers, gt40 intake with a cleanup job on the lower, tfs stage 1 cam, mac longtubes, 24 lbs injectors and I made the most power when I turned down the fuel pressure to 34 psi.
samotrx7 3 years ago
hey what size injectors, i have that combo to with 1.7 rr and b303 and 19lbs fuel presure at 42. timing @ 14. i think my car needs 24lbs.
NoviceKilla 3 years ago
At the time I was running 24 lbs. injectors with a 190 lph fuel pump and acufab fuel regulator.
