I can see where ur coming from, thinking it's about her father. The title of the album was dedicated to her father, when he wrote her a letter titled "promise" of hope i believe... He was sick and was weak. And I guess the song is like her comparing who he was before and who he became... Like she said, "it's not bad I'm not the little girl I used to be"... Now this is even sadder to me than it was when I first heard it...
