I will never understand why the NEWS can talk about a child rape/murder scene, but anime has to have things like guns censored. I am so glad the first time a kid sees a gun will be when they're walking down the street they have been led to believe is so safe and some asshole pops up and decides to kill them.

But Nothing bad really happened besides that, No body got hurt no Pokemon got killed with the bomb, well Ash threw it back at them so I guess Team Rocket did, they .. 'Blasted off again' :) I can see why they tried to do the right thing but no harm was done in my opinion. I don't see why if this was such a big deal why a simple re-edit couldn't have been made, because this episode solves the mystery of all of Ashs Tarus. But,It is true, the show has used weapons before but stating these facts I can kinda see why the episode was banned, It doesn't bother me or anything but the the way they've used guns before in the show is like tranquilliser darts or rocket launcher nets, that's all fine but when you implicate the use of bullets then it can kind of go all bad for the guys who air the show, No body got hurt or anything but they did use bullets and actual bombs in this episode so I just think they tried to do best

I've just watched this Episode in Japanese and it's more than 12 seconds. After this scene the man then holds the gun point blank at Ash's head, Later the man tries to shoot Team Rocket, they all miss so no ones shot. But then later Team rocket takes the man hostage holding the gun to his head.. Team rocket try to use a bomb to kill pokemon, I'm not sure if this is correct or a subtitle mistake but James says 'Pissed,' also Ash drowns sinking to the sea bed. Later being revived my Dragonair.

So... the whole show is about making animals fight each other. Some of the main characters are terrorists. There are missiles and bombs in multiple episodes. And yet, they decide that a man holding a gun, who doesn't even shoot anyone, is inappropriate for the viewers. Sure kids, go make your cats, dogs, and hamsters fight each other. Sure kids, terrorists are everywhere. Sure kids, go blow shit up. But kids.. Don't you ever think about even looking at a gun. lol what bullshit.

My god, it's just a gun. A whole episode canceled for a short 12 second scene. They didn't realize how much effort it takes to make an episode and they just cancel it for 12 seconds. He didn't even shoot. Why should seeing a gun make a kid freak out? Nothing happened. If Ash was shot, then it should be banned, but not now.

While I do agree with you, I think you underestimate the power of "Mothers against" groups. Sometimes, bad publicity can really screw over a company. Rather than deal with that, they ended up just not airing it. But they banned it not just for this scene- there was more in the episode, including a scene with the gun pressed to Ash's head.

Don't forget- this series is aimed for young children in the west, but preteens in Japan. That's where a lot of descrepancies come up.

Pokemon is a great show, but a lot of people stateside wouldn't take its original form with a grain of salt. Violence is NOT tolerated in a kids show (despite the fact that we created Tom and Jerry). :S

@Naud1234 I saw that episode and there was a lot more than that. He threatened Ash repeatedly and Team Rocket tortured him in the episode. Deleting this was a big hole in the series because ash suddenly had a bunch of torros but you can see in this episode, that is where he got them all. However, the censors just couldn't edit this.

@PkYourBrains Yea, I never actually seen the English version, but when I showed my friend my Japanese DVD collections, he said he was rather blown away by how different it was as he said some parts of the series were a lot darker than what was portrayed in the US version. Satoshi's personality apparently was also very different from Ash. Makes me think I should watch the english version finally to give it a looksee.
