the roots of this operation was in the oil. Mossadeq Nationalized the Oil Industry so that the Iranian Economy would have more funds through Oil Trade. Washington and the American Oil Companies didnt like this because it harmed their oil operations there. That was the primary cause of this operation

The claim that the US thought Mossadeq was a communist and that Iran may have fallen under the control of communists or Russia is ridiculous. It was a perfect excuse for the Americans and the British to overthrow a democratically elected government and to gain control of Iran. Control to gain access to oil contracts, to weaken it politically and hold back its progress via a dictator on their payroll. This was an American policy back then worldwide and still is to this day.

The U.S. has it's oil base in Saudi Arabia. The nationalization of the Anglo Iranian Oil Company angered the British. The british than presured U.S involvement which was initially resisited by the Truman administration. Later, the British pushed the issue of communisism at the Eisenhower admin. The U.S. did not want to break important relations with Britain over Iran at a time when when 100% of it's recouces were devoted against the soviet union.
