Yup if you want a great Les Paul build one or get someone to build it for ya. I was fortunate enough to find a guy in former Yugoslavia who builds amazing guitars. I managed to get 2, 59 relicas built out of wood from the early 50s. Nothin can touch them. Ive played real 59s that arent even close. So, if you want a great Gibson, find a luthier and get some old wood and go for it. You will save money in the long run by doin it right once.

btw that handbulit replica wouldn't happen to be built on your faded standard? :) I myself took a faded and stripped all the finish off, and refinished it myself using an even thinner finish than the already thin 3-coat "faded" finish, along with a neckshave to my prefered carve, and finally added some other pu's as well. It is now a tonal monster like yours. It seems you have kept the original finish but added some clearcoat. What else have you done?

i play a lespaul traditional,with the same sound,coming from a diezel vh4.i think that the '57 p.u.'s are the most balanced,gibson makes.

Gibson doesn't say it at all ! They say their first vintage pickup model was the 57 but rich Japanese collectors asked them to reproduce their best vintage tones, in the taste of 57 to 60 models. After researches, they found the character of these pickups came from a different wiring between both coils. Machines were not precise, even using the same cable. After discovering this, they built Burstbuckers #1, #2 and #3 featuring different numbers of turns on both coils : their best vintage PU's.
