I dont understand why ppl are hating on this guy and Maple Leaf Foods. I just did a research project on the strategies they implemented to inform and protect the public. The company's publics were very pleased at the Public Relations Dept's handling of the crisis. Families of victims were greatly compensated, and new deep sanitation procedures were implemented. The source of the problem was isolated and thats why even though there was a recall, they company could ensure safety.

I remember the listeria outbreak of '08. My mother in-law sent us list after list of ALL the recalled products, and I remembered how panicked I was, when I found out the sliced ham I'd been buying/eating for so long, was on that list. Needless to say, I haven't bought it since. In fact, I don't think we've bought ANY Maple Leaf products since then.

I believe MLF does have high standards, but standards can be falsified by those providing documentation that those standards were adhered to. It happens everywhere. Quality testing procedures & documentation of such MUST be made "fudgeproof". For each section of quality testing the question must be asked, "Can an employee enter this documentation without actually doing the test to arrive at that result?" If the answer is yes, then MLF must act to make that impossible to do.
It saddens me to see people attacking Mr. McCain & holding this 1 man solely responsible for this unfortunate incident. To err is human & even NASA has made mistakes that cost the lives of many people. I know it is difficult not to be angered, to trust or to forgive. Mr. McCain is carrying a tremendous burden for this incident. Some of the comments directed towards him, his company, his family and household are appalling & shameful. Stop it.
I understand you used to do contract work for Maple Leaf Foods Toronto facility as a vac truck operator. When you first went to this facility did you not watch any safety videos before you went into the plant? Also, and most importantly, did you not sign a confidentiality agreement with them? If you did, you are treading on very thin ice by posting anything here on Youtube that you may have seen in the plant even if you no longer work for that vac truck company.

Just because standards are in place, does not mean that they will be adhered to and I firmly believe that is EXACTLY what happened here. Somebody, somewhere, failed to do their job and submitted no documentation ... or they falsified it to make it appear as tho quality standards were adhered to. I WILL NOT BELIEVE that existing standards failed. The guilty party is somewhere amongst the quality control department.
What I want to know is how many hours it took to run all of the product that was found to be contaminated. Surely MLF has strict & frequent quality assurance testing procedures that are documented. I should bloody well hope so! I bet that quality documentation is either missing or it was falsified. Falsification would obviously be proven by the outbreak of listeriosis. Don't blame 1 man for this. It is the fault of the company as a whole.

I work part-time for a large bakery company. You would not believe the stuff that's goes on there. Employees spitting into the cooking product for laughs, items falling onto the floor getting put back into inventory, co-workers coming into work, sick, coughing, etc. sanitary rules are a joke there, no paper towels in the washrooms to properly dry your hands, (for the few of us who do wash them).
I complained just last week and was told to find another job if I did not like it.

They are tight. But if you want really strict look at Germany. Where I work there is a CFIA inspector present almost every day. CFIA audits per year. We are also a HACCP plant. Random petri swipes, rotate sanitizers every week. The HACCP audit is continual, as well as a few audits by some company we have contracts with.

However, just because I am not worried of the safety of ML foods doesn't mean I am a horrible person and does not give you the right to pick me apart. ML has recalled their products and are trying to resolve this matter as best and quickly as possible. If you are concerned then don't buy the products, its that simple. As for me I will GLADLY stock up on the severly REDUCED in price products that ML has put out in attempts to win people back...especially because these products are most likely exceeding health standards in every way because of this tragic event.

I dont understand why ppl are hating on this guy and Maple Leaf Foods. I just did a research project on the strategies they implemented to inform and protect the public. The company's publics were very pleased at the Public Relations Dept's handling of the crisis. Families of victims were greatly compensated, and new deep sanitation procedures were implemented. The source of the problem was isolated and thats why even though there was a recall, they company could ensure safety.

I remember the listeria outbreak of '08. My mother in-law sent us list after list of ALL the recalled products, and I remembered how panicked I was, when I found out the sliced ham I'd been buying/eating for so long, was on that list. Needless to say, I haven't bought it since. In fact, I don't think we've bought ANY Maple Leaf products since then.

San. dept. spending is highly scrutinized by Plant mngrs and above. Plant mngrs use the san. dept. budget as way to balance efficiencies by transfering production hours into the san. bdgt. What benefit is it to a company to knowingly endanger the lives of its consumers? Maple Leaf's inspection standards are far beyond the federal guidelines (and even moreso after), and it has formed an alliance with its competitors to share information on food handling practises. That infection is now in homes industries and institutions, on the very cutting boards of Canadians. MapleLeaf was unable to eradicate the bacterium and had to remove and replace all equipment. I believe MLF does have high standards, but standards can be falsified by those providing documentation that those standards were adhered to. It happens everywhere. Quality testing procedures & documentation of such MUST be made "fudgeproof". For each section of quality testing the question must be asked, "Can an employee enter this documentation without actually doing the test to arrive at that result?" If the answer is yes, then MLF must act to make that impossible to do.

Just because standards are in place, does not mean that they will be adhered to and I firmly believe that is EXACTLY what happened here. Somebody, somewhere, failed to do their job and submitted no documentation ... or they falsified it to make it appear as tho quality standards were adhered to. What I want to know is how many hours it took to run all of the product that was found to be contaminated. Surely MLF has strict & frequent quality assurance testing procedures that are documented. I should bloody well hope so! I bet that quality documentation is either missing or it was falsified. Falsification would obviously be proven by the outbreak of listeriosis. Employees spitting into the cooking product for laughs, items falling onto the floor getting put back into inventory, co-workers coming into work, sick, coughing, etc. sanitary rules are a joke there, no paper towels in the washrooms to properly dry your hands, (for the few of us who do wash them).
I complained just last week and was told to find another job if I did not like it.

They are tight. But if you want really strict look at Germany. Where I work there is a CFIA inspector present almost every day. CFIA audits per year. We are also a HACCP plant. Random petri swipes, rotate sanitizers every week. The HACCP audit is continual, as well as a few audits by some company we have contracts with.
BTW Sinisterkid... you are and idiot. and either with PETA or a disgruntled former employee. In either case...get over it... and now I don't work for Maple Leaf.

I am not posting anymore. For those of you who oppose buying ML products, fine...that is your opinion and good for you sticking to it. However, just because I am not worried of the safety of ML foods doesn't mean I am a horrible person and does not give you the right to pick me apart. This to is my belief and you have no right to attack me. I pray that there are no more deaths related to this horrific event and that those who have a fear of comsuming ML are able to find a brand they can trust.

ML has recalled their products and are trying to resolve this matter as best and quickly as possible. If you are concerned then don't buy the products, its that simple. As for me I will GLADLY stock up on the severly REDUCED in price products that ML has put out in attempts to win people back...especially because these products are most likely exceeding health standards in every way because of this tragic event.

There are so many companies out there that are who are guilty of causing death to the public. Tabacco Companies?....There has been research that PROVES what they produce kills and people keep on lighting up...

People are very uninformed about what the entire issue is regarding listeria. Take a few minutes to educate yourself. Obviously everyone posting here has access to the internet so take a few minutes and google listeria. Maybe people will actually learn something before they start preaching. I mean look at PETA and ALF for doing this as an act of bio-terrorism. It is NOT beyond their capabilities and PETA has been stooping lower and lower with it's add campaigns. Remember Christmas 2006... same plant and syringes were found in packaged hams. Are the two incidents related? I don't know but I would be looking into it, if I was the CFIA. Like I said look at PETA and the ALF as possible suspects.
