Always been a fan of Square's games, enjoying XIII very much. I'm on the last chapter. It isn't the best in the series, but seeing as every game in the series is a new experience, unlike countless other franchises that are confusingly popular, so what? Can't wait for Versus.
i bought the game today, i wouldnt call myself a fan boy as i have never really owned final fantasy games properly, i bought like 1 when i was 7 but this latest version in comparison to my other normal games is just simply beautiful and decently fun all around so i think its the fact its radically different that they cry rather then it being bad
@TrapnestShinigami I've only player FFVIII, FFX, FFX-2, and FFXII before, so I wouldn't exactly call myself a fanboy. I loved FF8, not because of the airship (which is what people mainly seem to be bitching about) but because of the gameplay and story, FF10, which was turn-based, is even now one of my (probably) top 5 favourite games, the story-line was amazing. FF10-2 and FF12 I wasn't as keen on. FF13 is a great game. If you're not sure how to judge it, try borrowing it from a friend.
I loved this game. Seriously, don't skip out on it just because of the negative things. If you're a FF fan, you owe it to yourself to at least rent it and get over that initial hump and then decide if you'd like to buy or not
FFXIII isnt as bad as it sounds. The most boring part of FFXIII is the first 10 chapters of the game (15hrs of gameplay approx). After those chapters the gameplay really shows itself and can be very fun and engaging.

The crystarium system is nothing compared to the sphere grid in FFX. What sucks you can not choose your own abilities as much as you did in previous Final Fantasy games. FFXII, in my opinion, is a lot better than XIII, especially game-play wise and replay value wise.
When they stopped allowing us to actually fly the Airships and changed from armor to J-pop effiminate clothes I lost interest in FF. Oh how sweet the original ones were... didn't need all the graphics to make them bad ass.
@hotchowder nostalgic troll. Flying airships doesn't make a game great. I've played every FF game and I think this one is the best and it's a fantastic game. So what if there's a lot of changes? It's still great.
@hotchowder Seriously, you don't like it because it doesn't have airships? That's like saying "I don't like CoD: Black Ops because it doesn't have the UMP45 (MW2)". Some people are so close-minded.
@RenegadeSorrowCBP well, in every FF games, they would give you the freedom of controlling the Airship. I like FF7 because they allow you to fully explore the world with all the different vehicles. It may be a small thing but its nice to have it there.
Final Fantasy XIII is a great RPG game! its fun and very very very challenging! I beat the game two times, and its still fun, I think this is by far my favorite FF game, I don't know yet, I think I still like FF8 better ^^ I love the characters in FFXIII, I didn't find any characters annoying, music & graphics are amazing!
This game isn't perfect, but its freaking AWESOME! =D
@deckarx dont you mean 9? 8 was awesome. from the card game to the amount of GFs and the music score. they're all good. its just a matter of how you're able to adapt to the game play.
Great game but the review is right on about certain things in the game. The battle system and character development is awesome. The story is good but the dialogue is atrocious. But it's typical Japanese stuff anyway... Snow and Vanille are just plain annoying though.... "Your hero is coming..." yeah... right...
@LexChew I find that ridiculous. Yes, at times the dialogue is bad. But the story is AMAZING, but it requires a bit of thought and speculation, but holy crap, I LOVE the story.

But the story is AMAZING, and so is the music and battle system, and everything else.... the game is amazing. If you don't mind linear games, the game is fantastic.
Those names probably sound bad ass if you're playing in japan and don't know a lick of english. It was weird... i was reading a subtitled cutscene from the japanese version and it read "Hope... your name means 'hope' right?" o.O
Also I thought Gt coulda given the game a higher score on the story. It was very well put together and entertaining enough to watch as if it were a movie.

Final Fantasy XIII is what got me into the FF series, i have so far got ff8-13 (excluding 11)
FFXIII may have its flaws, but what game doesnt?!? I have never regretted spending 100 hours on this game.
With towns and npc's, how is it possible for 6 pulse l'cie's to go into a shop and talk to npc's without the sanctum running in on them.

@That1guyusee actually no, it's just some of the dialogue. The dialogue is acutally mostly pretty good, but there are some scenes with horrible dialogue. But the story is AMAZING, and so is the music and battle system, and everything else.... the game is amazing. If you don't mind linear games, the game is fantastic.
