Persistent drought and a border dispute with neighbouring Ethiopia is pushing Eritrea further into poverty and increasing food shortages, the United Nations said. The small Horn of Africa country is one of the most food aid dependent countries in the world, with roughly two thirds of Eritrea's estimated 3.6 million people needing some food aid.
Some 1300 Eritrean soldiers crossed the borders to Ethiopia over the past 6 months in defiance to massive oppression and ill-military policies they face at home, Sudan Tribune rported on Tuesday citing the Administration of refugees and returnee Affairs.
WE ETH ARE GOING TO OPEN THREE REFUGEE CAMPS IN TIGRAY AND AFAR REGIONS.SHEMELBA IS OCCUPIED BY 25000 ERTRIANS .WE SHOULD TAKE CARE OF HUNGRY AND DEPRIVED ERTRIANS.
ACCORDING TO UN ,300-500 people /mth Enter ETHIOPIA.
In 1958 and 1959, I lived in Asmara close to the railroad that came up from Massawa. This is a narrow guage. Thanks to whomever posted this; it brings back a myriad of memories.
awesome! i mean i didnt think the train was running anymore=O =D well not as far as between massawa and asmara anyway. when i was in eritrea i saw their "train", haha it was a truck who was the locomotive =) kinda funny.
I was in Eritrea with the un 5 years ago and i played Bagpipes on that train. It was the first time it had ran on the line in years apparently. Beautiful country♠♠
They loved them couldn't get enough of them. it was a gr8 experience goin down to Massawa on the train passin through the tunnels was awesome. An experience i'll never forget. memories i'll take to the grave with me
That's interesting how you panned back from the last tunnel exit to where the train first appeared to show the context of the traverse it made along the mountain's side. Could you tell if that was cargo and/or passengers? If passenger's they must have got a lung-full going in and out of the tunnels.
The train was doing a runby for us,the cargo wagon contained coal and tools in case of breakdown, you do get some smoke in the tunnels some which are quite long.
Nice video,The topography, landscape and the tunnel looks so much like in the central India.I remember traveling in Steam engine driven train but now we got rid of them.
I don't know why I didn't realize it before but the tunnels must be very smokey when a train goes through. Do you know if the tunnels have supplemental ventilation? My guess is that they don't.
I didn't realize it was such a small amount of smoke. However, in cars the exhaust (which is also largely made up of water vapor) doesn't re-enter the cabin. Also, most tunnels that I've driven through for automotive traffic also have exhaust fans. In the old days, they didn't and drivers complained of heat and poor quality air.
Thanks for the comment, the coastal plain of Eri trea is very arid,a bit more rainfall falls on the mountains where we noticed eucalpyts had been planted. There is a reasonable amount of tourists going there now.
A good example of Italian Colonialism in Africa...

Ethiopia is IN Africa, not next to it.
Also part of the Riff Valley.

Kind of interesting that this area is not too far from the Great Rift Valley where homo sapiens first walked upright close to 2 million years ago.

Its not a smok that comes out from steam train; its 90% steam 10 smock... the smock is nothing mach than a 4*4 car.

No they dont, one tunnel we went through was full of bats

Wow, going through one of those tunnels has to be a horrid experience for the driver!
Gorgeous shots though.
