@chem1cal01 The question isn't "how do you warm the water... " If your water inlet is frozen, you turn on your faucet and no water comes out to fill the tea kettle.
Thanks WB. Boiler stopped working today with 'EA' message. Hot water on the very long external pipe did the trick. Saved me from a shivery weekend as it's a rented house and I'd have to call the fault in to the office on Monday.
@88gazzman we suggest that it might be worth contacting your installer, or, our Technical support department would also be able to offer guidance (0844 892 3366). If you're looking for local Worcester Accredited Installers, try the 'Find an installer' search on our website. Best regards, Worcester
Hi @88gazzman, if you're still having problems then we do suggest that your installer would be the best person to speak to, or, our Technical support department would also be able to offer suggestions (0844 892 3366). Best regards, Worcester
lagging the condense pipe will help but it will still freeze best way is to have it installed in side the property to sink or bath .this is a major design fault which boiler manufactures are not to concerned about
Installing a condensate pipe is nothing to do with Worcester Bosch. They can only give guidelines on how it can be done. It's the responsibility of the installer to make sure the pipe is suitably protected! This is a problem effecting all condensing boilers! Bottom line is if your run the pipe outside and expose it to freezing temperatures then what do you expect to happen? I'm happy that Worcester have taken the time to make these videos to help people. I don't see other manufactures doing the
This a design fault, the m/f should arrange to replace existing condensate pipes with correct down pipe fitting and and with larger pipe diameter, free of charge before another cold winter kicks in again
im pretty sure its is against boiler installation instructions in countries like germany ect to run the condensate outside due to there more severe winters ! if we get another winter like we did last year im pretty sure worcester will change there installation manual .
The instruction manual advises you to route it internally but sometimes you have no choice but to take the condensate drain outside. Even using 42mm pipe I have seen it freeze this winter.
Very good solution, i do agree with that. What i'm confused about is why our system was not installed with the insulation wrapped around the pipe. Obviously these ridiculous sub zero temperatures were not predicted, but we are being told we now have to pay for the insulation to be put around the pipe, which seems unfair.
Either way, we are doing this right now so lets hope it works!
Thanks! My boiler displyed the EA error message this morning. Once I'd watched this video I was able to get the boiler up and running again within 10 minutes. Must go and insulate the condensate pipe now!
Thank you thank you. Can't believe it but it sorted my combi e133 error! I just followed the white pipe out the bottome of the boiler and followed it down through my cellar and outside. I made sure it was all nice and warm and put some hot water on it outside. Started the boiler up again - no error code! Thought christmas was going to be a cold one. Thank you so much.
Brilliant instructions and a godsend! We've had no hot water or heating for 2 days in this freezing weather and were going to be robbed of an arm and a leg by an engineer for something so simple to do. Can't understand why British Gas didn't lag the pipe in the first place but then again this is the first time it had frozen in 2 years - thanks :-)
Excellent! Your videos are well done, explain this well and offer solutions.
With the UK in the grip of a massive frost, I doubt that I could have got an engineer out to see our boiler. This video has saved us a lot of panic - and money.
@NinjaRebel The manufacturers Instructions state that the pipe has to be 32mm. if not Lagging should be installed.
Therefore they have not installed the boiler complying with regulations. (can be reported to Gas Safe)
Im a WAI for worcester and we install a couple hundred worcester boilers a year and i would be lying if i said i have never had any of my installer forget to put the lagging on. We always return cut the pipe and re-install when the cold weather lifts.
I agree, terrible design but easily fixed.. the company should insist on installers fitting armaflex or similar insulation on external condensate pipes.
Our condensate pipe exits the house 10ft off the ground, we have to hang out the bedroom window to pour water on it once a fortnight throughout the winter :)
Where do you get the warm water, when your water inlet to your home is frozen?

I wonder why standard instructions even suggest condensate to exit this way, it should be last option only!

this is a massive design fault.
can you imagine an old person having to do this.
slipping on the ice that has frozen the condensate pipe and hurting themselves.
the companys should be made to fix this problem .
who the hell needs a boiler that only works properly in warm weather

They are all above ground level!
Thanks for the info but bad design fault.
