Anyone remember Sparks? Another band still going, way ahead of its time musically, and should be put in the same breath as Boingo! And yes another California band!
And here it is. Probably the greatest single new wave song ever conceived and exucuted. Long before I made my living as the EXACT kind of critic scumbag described in these lyrics, I knew that ALL music writers that did not get this, and embrace it, were doomed to demonstrate it.
@HawaiianYeti a critic who badmouthed Oingo Boingo in 1979 or '80: just type in "Urgh! A Music War / Imposter", click on the first thing that pops and you'll see Danny mention him at the beginning of the performance
They were right on the mark, too. Robert Hilburn was a particularly crappy music critic.

Elfman: "This next song goes out to an ASSHOLE from the L.A. Times who thinks he's too hip and it's called, "Impostor"."
Audience: "Roger Hilburn!"
Elfman: "That's who I mean!"
(song starts)

I pity people that need a critic to tell them what's "good" or "bad"...
as for the critics themselves..."thanks for the opinion...but I'll figure it out for myself."
and btw... Oingo Boingo = GREAT BAND... I miss them

I heard this was written for Robert Hilburn, long time L.A. Times critic.

Wasn't this song used for a commercial? If so what one? Because I swear I've heard this in a commercial before.
