I like rush very much... because they pioneered my favorite music genre. Although, I don't consider any of them, individually, my favorites with their instruments. Together, they are on my top5 bands, but individually I only like that much of Pearson. It’s just an opinion and not a fact, of course…
PERMANENT WAVES (1980) marked the starting point for Rush's full-blown entry into condensed, accessible progressive rock. They abandoned the 20-minute suites and mystical lyrics for catchy progressive song structures, and more human, worldly-related topics. But, Geddy Lee (vocals/bass/synths), Alex Lifeson (guitars) and Neil Peart (drums/lyrics) didn't lose their brilliance in composition, even if most of the track lengths were fit for radio. ENJOY! ;o)
these clips from holland seem to have about the best sound quality of the live rush performances.I love how solid and clear geddys bass sounds you normaly dont hear that in a live recording thanks for posting!!
This is the best video I've ever seen of a Rush-song. Second place is probably Xanadu from Exit... Stage Left. I can't believe Geddys bass playing here, Neil is really on fire even by his standards in this one, and Alex is just the ultimate guitar architect here. From the piezo-acoustic intro, to the synchronized riff-playing with Geddy, to the characteristic solos, and the epic last 3-4 minutes. THIS IS MUSICAL ORGASM DEFINED!
@wubbe You need to listen to Geddy's bass on La Villa Strangiato on Exit Stage Left. Just phenominal stuff. This is my favorite Rush Song and as a bass player I have no idea how he can play this AND sing. Pure talent and he only gets better with age.
@wesselbindt He is using a clean guitar sound. That particular guitar has a spectacle pickup deal that allows it such a clear sound. I saw them yesterday, it is pretty awesome.
@wesselbindt Most of Lerxst's Les Pauls, especially his new Signature model from Gibson have a piezo pickup in addition to the normal pickups. The new models use a GraphTech Floyd Rose bridge, the piezo's are built right into the bridge and the guitar has two outputs, one for the normal p/u's and one for the piezos and he can choose one or the other or mix the two sounds together.
MASTERPIECE! I'm 50, and first saw them in 1977 during the 'A Farewell To Kings' tour! I've seen them 176 times live, and NEVER tire of their clockwork music! LONG LIVE RUSH!
@AudiophileTubes Im 49! and I never saw them alive!!! before I ll pass away I have to......we live in Italy...forgotten by the rock stars!!!!!!But I always loved them since 1979 when I discovered them....Neil Peart one of the most great drummer of all times!!!!!!!! his YYZ alive is the most thrilling drum solo I ve ever heard....I would like to have only one finger of Neil...
@Prigionierodellanott Rush has played Italy in the past. But probably not near enough times. I also hear complaints from fans in Greece and Israel, regarding the fact that Rush hasn't played there as well. I'm surprised that they haven't.
@AudiophileTubes My 1st Rush concert, too. Kansas City Municipal Auditorium, 1977... I was 14 yrs. old. I missed the 1st Hemispheres show in KC (my sister was being a 'pain') but made the return show near the end of the tour. Been a fan since I was 11. Great band with excellent documentaries to watch.
yay... im going to see them on april 5th... neil peart is one hell of a drum, lee is an amazing bassist, lifeson, is under estimated for his guitar excellence
@mattsowders1989 He's never been considered under estimated for his guitar excellence. He is well known, right beside John Petrucci, Rik Emmett (Canadian, too) Jimi Hendrix (one of Lifeson's influences) as an exceptional & excellent guitarist. Read more 'net sites, GuitarOne magazine, or the scores of Musician polls in newsstand magazines, not just the 21st century critics' opinion, as they progress to the styles just like everyone else. Heard of Michael Angelo Batio? 2003 top shred-guitarist.
@mattsowders1989 Lifeson is just not that good compared with the rest of the band and the guitar world, there´s many of guitarists far more interresting. I know that this is hard for die hard fans, to see the truth, but Lifeson is just not Gilmour
@manvaix Assuming there's "truth" in guitarist comparison, I'm so sorry you haven't felt the truth in knowing that Lifeson is doubtless the greatest guitarist of the modern age. Unfortunately, such a truth can't be shown, only known. Maybe someday you'll understand that he's simply not only levels above his contemporaries, but likewise skillful beyond any other player to have yet lived.
@manvaix No one comes close to Gilmour, that is for sure....but...I cannot deny that Rush is one of the finest 3 piece bands ever.....EVER! ;D Rush would not be the same without Lifeson! They fit together like a glove, and I shall love them forever, and the same goes for Gilmour ♫
