  • go to .......click computer,C ,program files,common files,adobe,calibration,adobe gamma.....

  • hey chad, excellent tutorial.

one question, what's the intro theme song?

  • Thanks for the question - the end credits should explain it. It's a song called "TV World" by the band The Methadones. It's an amazing song!!

  • Thank you Chad. I have your tutorial about after effects CS3 (Lynda). Thanks, that help a lot!

  • Thanks man, good video :)

    Keep up educating us :)

  • Thank you! Find more of my training on Lynda [dot] com. I'll also be launching a new training site soon as well!

  • I googled it and downloaded it to the control panel. You'll find it under the 32 bit control panel icon if you have 64 bit vista.

  • yes outdated

we need to have a fix for windows 7

    using photoshop cs4

  • C:Program Files/Common Files/Controls Panels doe s not exist on my system. Couldn't get past step one.

  • if you have vista 64 bit try C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Control Panels might be it

  • Comment removed

  • I dont know if this is the right place but, when i turned on my CS2 or Lightroom all my pictures were violet in color, later in CS2 when i started my prog. its asked me to ingore profile or use anyway, i marked something (dontremember) its ok but in Lightroom 2.5 its the same please help!!!

  • thnx man!

  • Pretty useful tool but any time I restart my pc i have to load or by clicking 'ok' to overwrite the ICC profile. Is there a way to load my personalized profile on win startup???

  • Hunted high and low, cant find any such folder as control panels or indeed a adobe gamma cpl file.

  • me neither.. so what im going to do?? i cant find the control panels.... =(

  • Hi Dudes,

Thanks for sharing video on Adobe Gamma. It explains a lot in Vista. So is the programme asleep, as I was looking to find it to disable in start-up explore all users? I need it off to install screen calibrater? Can you reply please.

  • dude, how about adobe cs4 portable? and windows vista? @@

    thanks!

  • I have the same problem =( I use CS4 Portable and Vista

  • QuickGamma is better than Adobe Gamma. Its gradient gamma bars make calibration much more precise.

  • Thanks a bunch for this video. It helped me out a LOT.

  • Thanks

  • If you are a Windows Vista 64 bit user, the easiest way to use the Adobe Gamma CPL is to create a desktop shortcut and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Control Panels and point your shortcut to the Adobe Gamme.cpl file. This shortcut will now activate the CPL. Cut and paste it into your Adobe Start Menu folder and your all set.

    Cheers

  • The program opened directly via Control Panel where I searched for "adobe" in the search field - voilá!

No copying, and the adobe gamma-file does not exist in my System32-folder.

  • Thanks for the great video on calibration and characterization of the monitor. In it, you omitted two things which I have a question about:

In the last page for Adobe Gamma Wizard, I have a check box which says Use as Default Monitor Profile. What happens if I click finish with this option checked and without.

Last, I assume that the characterization of my monitor is written to the profile name supplied in one of the first steps is this so? And second, how can Adobe CS4 use it?

  • thanks alot ))))))

  • Good lord, thankyou!. Ive been struggling to properly calibrate my new laptop for a month now, and didnt have a clue how to use adobe gamma properly until i saw this video, and made things hard for myself with some dodgy profiles.. Things seem to be looking correct now, so i can finally do my work without colour headaches!

  • I put the file on System32 folder but nothing appears in Control Panel :S

  • I have Vista64 and PSCS4, where is my adobe gamma? I can't find it..

    Thanks

  • This helpful video would've solved my problem if I actually had the file on my laptop! I have Vista with CS3 and the CPL file was nowhere to be found! Luckily my desktop also has CS3 installed so I just copied the CPL file from there. The difference between the two is that the desktop is running XP and the entire suite is installed (laptop only has Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop).

So either I goofed or in some (rare?) cases Adobe Gamma just doesn't install?

  • I dont have that "control panels" folder............LAME

  • "Suck it????" Wow. I photoshop to get away from such doltish epithets.

  • Thank you! You helped me tremedously :)))

  • I was having trouble on vista x64 as well. I managed to get it working by renaming my adobe gamma.cpl file to "agamma.cpl" and putting it in c:\windows\syswow64. A simple change in file name fixed it for me, and now i can see it in View x86 items in the control panel.

You could also try to manually run "C:\windows\syswow64\control.exe agamma.cpl" in the run command in the start menu. Hope that helps or better yet works

  • Hello everybodeiyeieieiiiiii lol :p

  • I have 64-bit Vista and I did exactly what you did but with no results... I really feel sorry for that!

  • umm control panels is not on common files on my laptop

  • I'm running Vista x64. The file is there and I did exactly as you told me in this video but it doesn't show up in the control panel...

  • Thanks a lot man!! Really helped me!

  • Thank you so much for this. I just got a new computer and trying to color correct it without Gamma was killing me. And everyone told me it didn't come with CS3! <3

  • Same here. No such file or even a ''control panels'' folder in Vista x64

  • Doesn't work for me either- this file doesn't exist under Vista x64. Also, you have a very obnoxious way of talking.

  • animado!!

  • I don't have CS3, but I have Vista, and the same problem. I'm using Photoshop Elements 5.0which I got when I bought my tablet.

I don't have a control panels folder in my common files, either... is there anywhere else in the computer it can be hiding? I did the search, but with no luck.

  • So are you running x86 or x64 Vista? I'm having a feeling it doesn't get installed in x64. I'm running CS4 though.

  • Thanks but I actually was interested in points during setup you skipped.

for example first window in Adobe Gamma asks you to make your screen CONTRAST highest.

err, how is that a good idea. it frigin stays 100% contrast after your done with the setup.

Problem is when you setup contrast 100% you will miss shades of Grey in your artwork and also will ignore light Grey shade in browsers as well.

Also setting 2.0 gamma is not a good advice. it screws up work for printshop color manager. 2 stars

  • Gamma affects your monitor, and has no bearing on the printing process. Also, Adobe created Adobe Gamma to work with 100% contrast on your monitor so that it could work an absolute, and scale back from there. It obviously doesn't leave the screen at full contrast. If you look at your screen after calibration, you'll see plenty of midtones (shades of gray). The instruction to increase screen contrast to 100% comes from Adobe, not from me. But hey, if you know more than Adobe, more power to you.

  • why cant i find control panel??

  • Hello. Useful tutorial but- like some people below- I don't have a Control Panel Folder in my Common Files Folder. I'm running Vista and CS3. Help!

  • THERE IS NO ADOBE GAMMA ON MY VISTA!!!!

  • THERE

  • Followed exactly the steps of this tutorial but adobe gamma does not appear in my control panel. Tried to reboot and all. I'm using vista 64-bit. Did this ever happenned to you?

  • same here! I was able to do this with a laptop with vista but I can't with my newest desktop. I can't even find a CONTROL PANELS FOLDER in the COMMON FILES FOLDER. I was able to do this with the laptop but no luck with the desktop. It was easy to follow the one time but I'm stumped now. Suggestions? I'm desperate!

  • I hope this isn't a stupid question, but... I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 (1280 x 800) + Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, and when I spoke with the Dell Customer Service they more or less told me that I was stuck with the preset color profile config (unless I bought/installed a more advanced video card). I mean, I can Fn up arrow/down arrow to adjust the brightness, but that's about it.

  • But I googled around and saw Adobe Gamma mentioned, so I have to know, was Dell wrong? Can I still adjust the saturation and contrast levels on my Inspiron, if I have CS3 and Adobe Gamma installed? I watched the whole of your tutorial, but I'd just like to make sure before I get my hopes up and go through the whole process.

  • I have Vista Home Basic, if that helps.

  • Hey firebreeze! Thanks for watching. Definitely NOT a stupid question. We're both right (Dell and I). They were referring to HARDWARE color calibration (from their monitor), which probably wouldn't have any color profile features. I'm referring to SOFTWARE color calibration. So, if your monitor makes a color profile (which, I'm sure it does), Adobe Gamma can use that to adjust Vista to display the correct color. (PS I'm using caps for emphasis, not because I'm yelling). Great question!

  • you rock.

  • Thank you so much!

  • i carnt find the folder with adobe gammer is in, i got to comman files but it not there at all plz help

  • My Vista Ultimate does not contain the folders mentioned in the video. I have CS3.

There is no "Control Panels" folder!

  • did you ever find the control panels folder cause i can't find it either

  • Nope!

  • NICE~

  • oooooooooooo thanx a lot.

The little @##$# has been there all the time hiding in its folder. grrrrr.

    thanx for this wonderfull tip.

  • love this hoster...

  • this hoster loves you

  • i have it on vista as well...

  • I Win XP + Photoshop CS3 and in common files I don't have that folder... :(

If can help me please send me a private message

  • bootleg copies of Photoshop do not have that file. If you purchased a copy of Photoshop, contact Adobe.

  • amazing, and I subscribe. I needed this and didn't even know it.

  • but it doesn't load on startup!! please explain in next tutorial

  • It shouldn't load on startup. It's a calibration utility. Do you mean that the profile does not work on startup? Make sure you save the resulting .icc file in its default location in the color folder with all of the other .icc profiles. But there is no process that should be included in the Windows startup here.

  • I did save it to C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

one of my guesses, the Nvidia may override this color file

  • actually, I think it works, sorry, got a little panic

  • thanks dude!

  • I found it, it is not in the same place as in this video, though. I found it under C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration

  • goooooooooooooood

  • i can't find vista sucks

  • Vista does suck, and the people posting on forums and other complaints are right.

The file may have been on Chat's pc, but certainly didn't install on mine, and had to get the file from my XP computer. EXPLAIN THAT.

  • u r wrong..Vista does not suck. I am a mac user who found myself in a strange situation where I switched from Mac OS X Leopard which look totally gay (I prefer Tiger more but the greedy Apple instantly drop all supports on all their previous OS which is frustrating). Therefore I ported to Windows Vista and I love it.

  • I can't find control Panels folder either???

Is it possible to download the gamma program file?

  • The one problem not mentioned is that Adobe gamma isn't shipped with CS3 and Vista doesn't 'hold' the settings anyway. Is a hardware colour calibrator the only solution?

  • now i think i shouldn't have bought a new computer (VISTA SUCKS)

  • Google adobe user forums is adobe gamma not installed with cs3? and click the first link.

  • Damn lol.

  • jeeze vista is such a train wreck of compatibility..... :(

  • You said it! Last week, I switched to Mac because Vista is so crappy. Never been happier...

  • I wish i could do that but mac has no Games

  • Not true, if only has a few old games which run as shit on overpriced hardware with bad configurations. But there are games, at least a few ;D

  • hmmm!>....thnx a LOT!..nice tutoruiaL i whithout ur tutorial i dnt how can fix mY yellowis color into white in my photoshop cs3!..thnx!..

  • mirá vos, ahí está la carpeta en winxp... quién lo diría...

  • I dont have the control panel folder there either. Seems like the bloggers and you guys are only half right. Some have the folder some do not.

  • Freakin' awesome! Thank you sooo much :D

  • Nope -- no Control Panel folder on my Vista Home Premium either, and Fetch does not find any file called Adobe Gamma.cpl or close. :(

  • I dont have a Control Panels folder either? I have Photoshop CS3 installed running on Vista Home Premium.

  • GooD Men

  • Thanks for the good info!

  • Nop... yo tampoco tengo la carpeta Control Panels en ninguna parte del equipo y en el panel de control no existe Adobe Gamma..... lo que muestran aqui sirve para la version CS2 no para la CS3...

  • ummm. I am running Vista Ultimate x86 and there is no Control Panels folder in my common files. LIES not debunked.

  • Have you installed Photoshop CS3? You saw it work on my screen here. I've had dozens of e-mails from people on Vista that followed this and got it to work just fine.

  • Yeah, I have it running. Runs great. Just no Control Panels folder in Common Files.
