I dont know if this is the right place but, when i turned on my CS2 or Lightroom all my pictures were violet in color, later in CS2 when i started my prog. its asked me to ingore profile or use anyway, i marked something (dontremember) its ok but in Lightroom 2.5 its the same please help!!!
Pretty useful tool but any time I restart my pc i have to load or by clicking 'ok' to overwrite the ICC profile. Is there a way to load my personalized profile on win startup???
Thanks for sharing video on Adobe Gamma. It explains a lot in Vista. So is the programme asleep, as I was looking to find it to disable in start-up explore all users? I need it off to install screen calibrater? Can you reply please.
If you are a Windows Vista 64 bit user, the easiest way to use the Adobe Gamma CPL is to create a desktop shortcut and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Control Panels and point your shortcut to the Adobe Gamme.cpl file. This shortcut will now activate the CPL. Cut and paste it into your Adobe Start Menu folder and your all set.
Thanks for the great video on calibration and characterization of the monitor. In it, you omitted two things which I have a question about:
In the last page for Adobe Gamma Wizard, I have a check box which says Use as Default Monitor Profile. What happens if I click finish with this option checked and without.
Last, I assume that the characterization of my monitor is written to the profile name supplied in one of the first steps is this so? And second, how can Adobe CS4 use it?
Good lord, thankyou!. Ive been struggling to properly calibrate my new laptop for a month now, and didnt have a clue how to use adobe gamma properly until i saw this video, and made things hard for myself with some dodgy profiles.. Things seem to be looking correct now, so i can finally do my work without colour headaches!
This helpful video would've solved my problem if I actually had the file on my laptop! I have Vista with CS3 and the CPL file was nowhere to be found! Luckily my desktop also has CS3 installed so I just copied the CPL file from there. The difference between the two is that the desktop is running XP and the entire suite is installed (laptop only has Illustrator, Dreamweaver, and Photoshop).
So either I goofed or in some (rare?) cases Adobe Gamma just doesn't install?
I was having trouble on vista x64 as well. I managed to get it working by renaming my adobe gamma.cpl file to "agamma.cpl" and putting it in c:\windows\syswow64. A simple change in file name fixed it for me, and now i can see it in View x86 items in the control panel.
You could also try to manually run "C:\windows\syswow64\control.exe agamma.cpl" in the run command in the start menu. Hope that helps or better yet works
Thank you so much for this. I just got a new computer and trying to color correct it without Gamma was killing me. And everyone told me it didn't come with CS3! <3
I don't have CS3, but I have Vista, and the same problem. I'm using Photoshop Elements 5.0which I got when I bought my tablet.
I don't have a control panels folder in my common files, either... is there anywhere else in the computer it can be hiding? I did the search, but with no luck.
Gamma affects your monitor, and has no bearing on the printing process. Also, Adobe created Adobe Gamma to work with 100% contrast on your monitor so that it could work an absolute, and scale back from there. It obviously doesn't leave the screen at full contrast. If you look at your screen after calibration, you'll see plenty of midtones (shades of gray). The instruction to increase screen contrast to 100% comes from Adobe, not from me. But hey, if you know more than Adobe, more power to you.
Followed exactly the steps of this tutorial but adobe gamma does not appear in my control panel. Tried to reboot and all. I'm using vista 64-bit. Did this ever happenned to you?
same here! I was able to do this with a laptop with vista but I can't with my newest desktop. I can't even find a CONTROL PANELS FOLDER in the COMMON FILES FOLDER. I was able to do this with the laptop but no luck with the desktop. It was easy to follow the one time but I'm stumped now. Suggestions? I'm desperate!
I hope this isn't a stupid question, but... I have a Dell Inspiron 1525 (1280 x 800) + Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100, and when I spoke with the Dell Customer Service they more or less told me that I was stuck with the preset color profile config (unless I bought/installed a more advanced video card). I mean, I can Fn up arrow/down arrow to adjust the brightness, but that's about it.
But I googled around and saw Adobe Gamma mentioned, so I have to know, was Dell wrong? Can I still adjust the saturation and contrast levels on my Inspiron, if I have CS3 and Adobe Gamma installed? I watched the whole of your tutorial, but I'd just like to make sure before I get my hopes up and go through the whole process.
Hey firebreeze! Thanks for watching. Definitely NOT a stupid question. We're both right (Dell and I). They were referring to HARDWARE color calibration (from their monitor), which probably wouldn't have any color profile features. I'm referring to SOFTWARE color calibration. So, if your monitor makes a color profile (which, I'm sure it does), Adobe Gamma can use that to adjust Vista to display the correct color. (PS I'm using caps for emphasis, not because I'm yelling). Great question!
It shouldn't load on startup. It's a calibration utility. Do you mean that the profile does not work on startup? Make sure you save the resulting .icc file in its default location in the color folder with all of the other .icc profiles. But there is no process that should be included in the Windows startup here.
u r wrong..Vista does not suck. I am a mac user who found myself in a strange situation where I switched from Mac OS X Leopard which look totally gay (I prefer Tiger more but the greedy Apple instantly drop all supports on all their previous OS which is frustrating). Therefore I ported to Windows Vista and I love it.
The one problem not mentioned is that Adobe gamma isn't shipped with CS3 and Vista doesn't 'hold' the settings anyway. Is a hardware colour calibrator the only solution?
Nop... yo tampoco tengo la carpeta Control Panels en ninguna parte del equipo y en el panel de control no existe Adobe Gamma..... lo que muestran aqui sirve para la version CS2 no para la CS3...
Have you installed Photoshop CS3? You saw it work on my screen here. I've had dozens of e-mails from people on Vista that followed this and got it to work just fine.
God bless ya!

So are you running x86 or x64 Vista? I'm having a feeling it doesn't get installed in x64. I'm running CS4 though.
Litude1 3 years ago
Thanks but I actually was interested in points during setup you skipped.
for example first window in Adobe Gamma asks you to make your screen CONTRAST highest.
err, how is that a good idea. it frigin stays 100% contrast after your done with the setup.
Problem is when you setup contrast 100% you will miss shades of Grey in your artwork and also will ignore light Grey shade in browsers as well.
Also setting 2.0 gamma is not a good advice. it screws up work for printshop color manager. 2 stars
