Personally, I liked the suave, cynical version that doesn't take every thing serious, and it's nothing more than a game to him. Heath's version, although alright, felt more like a serial killer than someone like that of the Joker. However, I didn't mind the movie, but, yes, it was glorified based around Heath's untimely death.
I agree, ledger joker sucks ass, and people think its the best cuz it was the last role he made.. post mortus fame.. pure and simple... but there is also a diference between cartoon style character and making that character closer to reality...those are 2 different aspects of character development, they went closer to reality in new batman and the result is this.... although i prefer the more classic "ridicolous" character joker
Heath's Joker ain't a Joker, it's just a damn JOKE!!! Chris if this is what you think the Joker is like BUGS BUNNY COULD HAVE DONE A MORE AUTHENTIC JOB THAN YOU!!! "Eh... Why so serious Doc?" Indeed Chris, why so freakin' serious?
I do say that I liked ledgers performance, but his performances seemed really overrated. There are people out there who are calling him the best actor that ever lived even though some of the people that say that can't even name any other film that he played in besides the dark knight. I stuck with jack's because I believe it is what is closer to what the joker should be.
I agree. It was an interesting character Heath did, and I feel sorry that he had to die over it, but it wasn't a true joker. he acted more like a mad emo joker. and where the hell was my cyanide pie or jack in a bomb!
"where the hell was my cyanide pie or jack in a bomb!"
That was the ONLY thing I didn't like about this Joker. If Joker has a mountain of money, he's not gonna burn it to make a point about what SHOULD drive crime; he'd spend it on some giant ridiculous prop to further terrorize Gotham. Or get himself some decent editing equipment to make more polished videos.
JOKER:
And welcome back to 'Inside the Victim's Studio'. Tell us... what are you final thoughts before I pull the trigger?
Can somebody tell me what kind of a world we're living where a man dressed up as The Joker gets all of my press??? This town needs an enema!!!!
Jack Nicholson talking about Heath Ledger's performance :D Don't take it too serious, I absolutely think Jack Nicholson is the one and only Joker, Heath Ledger was just a psycho with make up!!
I don't see how Ledger's joker is more realistic. He doesn't have a name, a past and all his plans seem to work magically (I mean, how on fucking hell did he place bombs all over in a hospital without being noticed!?). He is a very interesting villain, and has Joker's intelligence for sure, but that's it.
Jack's didn't do anything unrealistic for people to think he's "unrealistic". The Smilex could be as real as any of the toys Batman uses, and everything else already exists in real life.
Let's be honest with ourselves. Heath did a fine job as a cold, brutal psychopath. The problem was that he wasn't the Joker. His character seems much more based on the Joker from "The Killing Joke" (which sucks, btw, even Alan Moore says so) than the classic character who is just as likely to place a whoopie cushion under your seat as he is to slit your throat and through you in the bay. The Joker's not out to prove anything: he's having too much fun for that.
I guess none of you jokers have seen the joker that was on the televisoin show of the 60s.. The one, the only Ceasar Romero! Now HE was the best joker of all time! Period!
The only reason Heath Ledgers joker is loved so much is because he died not long after filming it! so people respect it because it's one of the last performances he did! Most of the people probably dont even give a shit about the joker!
I think the whole Joker thing is a thing of vision. I find them both great, fitting in the vision of each Batman stile. I do admit I prefer the Burton Batman (just the entire movie with his gothic stile is incredible and the Joker superb!), but still like the Nolan Batman including his Joker too. But all this is open for personal taste!
(The fight scenes however are far better in 1989 Batman! And no one beats Keaton in my opinion! :-))
How can you people even try to campare peanuts to apples as in Ledger or Nicholson to the one and only True original joker which was played by Cesar Romero in the mid 60s " what a great actor this man was "
you see, i knew these guys the warner brothers they were real butt heads and you see they got sloppy you know crazy, so one day they had their lights out!
it's no ledger's fault that joker sucked. it's nolan's. ledger did a great job as the joker. but if someone can act good that doesn't mean that their character in a movie is good.
Everyone pissed their pants when the Dark Knight came, but to me it was a dissappointment... BATMAN 89 is just superior in every level... characters, dialogue, music, scenery, outfits, the feeling...
and the Joker (played by Jack freaking Nicholson!) is not a just a petty anarchist emo scum like the new Joker, but a genious evil artist like he should be!
I think of Mark Hamill when I hear someone metion Joker... that aside, Heath Ledger's Joker was entertaining but was more like a toned down Beetlejuice than the Joker. Jack Nicholson is the superior Joker in the movie adaptions. Those were Tim Burton's glory days... Damn you Helena Bonham Carter.

@burtonrules123 seriously like they think they can just put any character in any situation and call it what they want it. hes doesnt even mean anything to batman like they think he can just appear out of no where and be all deep and shit. this movie is more evil than the joker.
To be fair, most of your complaints are more to do with poor writing rather than lack of acting quality on Ledger's part. But I still agree, Ledger did his "psycho act" by the book and it wasn't all that impressive.
Ledger's Joker seemed more like a psychopath who wants to create anarchy and chaos everywhere than the Clown Prince of Crime. He used no gag weapons, didn't tell any jokes, didn't laugh as much as the other Jokers, only used knives, that constant lip-smacking was a little annoying, and had makeup instead of bleached skin. In a realistic world, it would make sense, but still, this isn't what the Joker is to me. Mark Hamill will always be the best for me.
Ledger fit the Nolan verse pretty well, and he did do a good job; however I do kinda feel like he was playing a "Joker-esque" character, and not actually the Joker. Nicholson is the Joker.

@fgossage Actually Keaton's Batman and Ledger's Joker are closer to the original source material. Look at the originals, and you will se Batman murdering people left and right, and The Joker being almost completely serious with only his card to signify who he is.
Nicholson is more fun to watch though, which I can't say about Bale's Batman or whiny Bruce persona
I can't help but feel if Heath Ledger was still alive, people would say his performance was "ok". But because he died everyone was like "OMG, the best performance from any actor ever." It's kinda like Marilyn Monroe, she's dead so all her movies are the great and classics... that's just my opinion though (Sorry if I've affended anyone)...
I love Heath Ledgers Joker, but i prefer Jack because he really is a Joker. Heath Ledger is also too much overrated only because he died and people felt sorry for him.
Heath Ledger did alright as a token psycho. But, that's just it. He could have been ANY psycho. He wasn't the Joker. Why? Did he pull outrageously over-the-top scams whilst laughing maniacally? Nearly, but no. Jack Nicholson was the Joker. Cesar Romero was the Joker, even Mark Hamill was the Joker, but for my money, Jack Nicholson was THE Joker.
I think that Heath Ledger did alright in his roll of the Joker however Jack Nicholson did exceptionally better at expressing the hilariously insane character of the Joker. My favorite Joker is a close race between Mark Hamill and Jake Nicholson with Mark having a slight advantage.
I completely agree with you, the joker might be psychotic, but hes not some messy dirty looking creep, the real joker is a clean cut looking creep lol. Jack Nicholson was hands down the perfect part for the joker. The Batman with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson was the best of them all.
like ino in the comics it says that the jokers skin was drenched in bleach and thats why he is so pale but in this new wannabe film jokers skin falls of him . WTF. nd yeh he isn't hysterical at all eeem wat is the joker in this new film depressed
Jack played the character from the comics, Heath was a completely different character, they shouldn't have even called him the Joker. I hate that people always think of Heath Ledger now whenever they hear the character's name.
Um, I don't blame Heath, but I found the film's version of the Joker was NOT very Joker-like. He did the pencil trick and after that, nothing really had a punchline or demented humor or anything. In jack N.'s movie, lots of demented gags and violent punchlines...so yeah, the new Joker was weak tea.
The dark knight is one of the most overrated and over hyped movies ever. I thought it was truly awful and a very boring cast of characters,in saying that Heath's Joker was about the only thing somewhat interesting about the movie. To me though it was just a cgi show but it has so many fan boys and girls. Jack was way better though as was Michael Keaton as Batman, don't get me started on that ametur bale
I honestly won't say that Ledger sucked as the Joker; he did fine, but to say he was better than NICHOLSON?!? JACK FUCKING NICHOLSON?!? PLEEEEEEEEEEASE!!! The role was virtually MADE for the man when he was born. Nicholson captured the true essence of the Joker; a psychopathic manchild out not to prove a good damn thing, but to kill and fuck with people all for the laughs. THESE are traits that define the Joker not some cliche ideal of wanting people to accept that evil exists in all of us.
@TheInstantClassic1 Thumbs up. And why do people think Ledger is a perfect Joker? "Because he's more frightening, he's more realistic!" Those are the DUMBEST reasons ever!
Joker shouldn't be terrifying, just creepy. And why the hell should be "realistic"?!?HE'S A COMIC BOOK CHARACTER!!! And the fact that he just randomly kills people just for have fun makes him even more twisted and "anarchist" than Ledger.
"Why so Serious?" That's the same question I would ask to Ledger.
In other words, the joker is the ultimate troll? Sounds good to me.
Dark knight 2 - Joker trolls the world by filling the water supply with X-Lax, causing methane levels to increase and making global warming almost bad enough to kill us all, but before it does, he sets off all the nuclear silos to hit one side of the planet, making the planet move toward the sun.
In his last moments he streaks and says, "I'm on a hot streak, hahahahaha!".
@TheInstantClassic1 i agree with you on most of that, but have you read the killing joke? the joker did want to prove that we can all go crazy with ease, but nolan took that way too far and removed all of the comedy from the joker. nolan got it right that joker was out to prove a point, but he still completely ruined him.
I wouldn't say Heath was shit, but his act certainly was not what one would expect of the joker. Jack Nicholson is clearly the superior talent. Heath's role was more akin to a random maniac whom recently escaped from prison, not the joker.
i agree jack owns because he was the classic joker, ledger just blows in every way possible. Batman begins and dark night where trash in my opinion. Jack really captured jokers personality. He was silly, funny, scary, and dangerous at the same time. Ledger was fucking emo, he never even laughted from what i remember.
heath ledger would have made SUCH AN AMAZING zsasz character the phone killer
but his joker was more of a psychopath....not really the funny joker we all love and like, just an average psycho

I couldn't agree more. You said it all and better than anyone else on the Jokersubject.

I wouldn't say Heath was shit, but his act certainly was not what one would expect of the joker. Jack Nicholson is clearly the superior talent. Heath's role was more akin to a random maniac whom recently escaped from prison, not the joker.

all the people who dislike this video are Ledgers(joker) fans

The Dark Knight was poorly written, poorly cut together and poorly acted.
Between the overpowering advertisement, the death of a celebrity, and shallow teen girls, this movie was guaranteed a success.

i agree jack owns because he was the classic joker, ledger just blows in every way possible. Batman begins and dark night where trash in my opinion. Jack really captured jokers personality. He was silly, funny, scary, and dangerous at the same time. Ledger was fucking emo, he never even laughted from what i remember.
